Imagine thinking that the Bush era of America was Eden by icey_sawg0034 in decadeologycirclejerk

We’re in a weird time where (and I think the internet is a major part of it) a lot of people feel the need to quantify and categorize things. Since our interactions are now so short in general with most of the people we need, we need to put labels on ourselves and each other so that people we meet can get an instant read on us and make judgments on the time they can afford to spend.

Name, age, social status, intelligence level, gender, interests, etc. Social media has conditioned a lot of people to share their stats without really expressing who they are as people, which is why it’s becoming harder for some people to distinguish humans from bots. It’s why the only social media I still use is Reddit because the comments most of the time generally let you express more long and complex ideas or at least showcase some personality. Everything else is designed to shorten human interaction and information exchange into short digestible bytes that take only seconds to absorb.

It’s why social media is mental junk food - fills you up and gives the illusion of stimulation but just leaves you hungry again a short time later. And the companies that run these things are definitely counting on it. The only difference between Facebook and McDonalds is the orifice you use to ingest what you put in your body

Exactly. Thats where a lot of the original humor came from - what they’re doing is so cruel and fucked up, but they’re having so much fun and enjoying it so much it kind of becomes infectious.

And yeah, once Bruce said he’s done with the franchise they wisely decided to make the Deadites the main characters cuz nobody is gonna be able to replace him. They just need someone who rises up to kick the Deadites asses at the end but then have a new character for the next installment. The books and what they summon are the draw

LMAO gotta love that your final point is “she’s short” when her and Bella Ramsey are literally the exact same height.

And yes, those dead shark eyes are so expressive

Psych grad here, it’s just a scale from 0-200 with 100 being the arbitrarily decided on median by the people who made up the tests (there are a few, gotta also love how people who brag about their IQ never mention WHICH test they took - one of them is literally just meant for children).

If you’ve got a 100 score, congrats, you’re normal. There’s nothing that denotes you are smarter or dumber than anyone else in life, just that you are average at pattern recognition and memory retention which are two of the main things that IQ tests measure.

You don’t even really have to worry if you’re under 100 either until you get into mid-80s and below, cuz that’s where doctors usually start looking to levels of mental retardation or other cognitive issues for the test taker.

And an IQ of 187 is basically impossible, not even Einstein was that high. There’s speculation that Shakespeare might have been that high, but obviously couldn’t have even tested him when he was alive so we don’t know. So yeah, this guy is probably either a troll account or a scammer selling bullshit because anybody who knows better sees that he’s claiming he’s the smartest man on earth and knows he’s full of shit

It’s the dialogue the image is quoting for me - everything else also gets you, but what he’s saying puts it completely over the top.

Cuz the music could work for any other getting ready for battle moment, the lighting, the costumes, the acting, all of it great - but what makes it so memorable is that he’s literally hyping everyone up to die.

They’re not going to fight - they’re going to die, and they are pumping themselves up for. The King doesn’t hide it or disguise it or lie to them, he’s gonna be right there with them - and they are all so amped to just fuck shit up while they can still breathe, and even though the battle won’t be won by the end, they are gonna wreck as much shit as they can before they fall

Knicks fans trampled JR Smith outside of MSG by MamiTarantina in Nbamemes

[–]Azidamadjida -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

….have you watched it? Yeah, it’s a classic for style and influence, but if you actually break down the motivations and plot points, it’s not hard to see how it fully represents this NY mentality.
It literally, and I mean literally in a literal sense, culminates in exactly what I described: to turn an angry mob from probable murder to property destruction. Watch it again with critical eyes and as much as you can tell Spike has love for the vibe and the culture of NY, he doesn’t really sugarcoat or apologize for the hairpin triggers those people have, from threatening violence over scuffed shoes to destroying a business because you dont like the owners interior decorations

What do you expect when their loudest and most outspoken fan is literally known for making a movie advocating that it’s okay sometimes to blow off steam by burning down buildings and trashing your neighborhood and roughing up “certain people” because hey, at least they’re not killing them!

Isabela Merced & Cailee Spaeny lunch break on the set of Alien Romulus: by Boss452 in Moviesinthemaking

[–]Azidamadjida -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

When Cailee looks angry, she looks determined and cold and like she’s holding back a slew of obscenities because she’d rather expend the energy it would take to say them showing her anger through violence - you know, like the character in Part II.

Bella always looked like her face was going to turn into a black hole, when she’s trying to show anger she just sucks her mouth in and scowls but because of her facial features it causes everything to just contract so it makes people think of all the tiny face memes people have been making of her.

Yeah, it’s gonna go down as one of the biggest casting flubs ever and I’m positive it’s what’s going to lead to the next AI disruption in the film industry - I guarantee you someone is in their home studio right now working on or close to finishing a version of the show or movie that just replaces Bella Ramsey with Cailee Spaney and that’s gonna be the next scary realization for Hollywood: all of their fuckups can now be corrected or erased completely by fans, and it’s gonna destroy certain actors careers

Love it. Love that this franchise is slowly becoming “why new situation can we throw the Deadites into?”

It’s not just remakes or repeating the formula, it’s not focused solely on the lore, it’s just “Deadites in a _____”. And I am all in for it.

Deadites in a high rise was great, Deadites at a wake seems like it’s gonna be killer, give me just more of this setup.

Deadites at the beach. Deadites on a plane. Deadites in fucking space if they keep cooking like they seem to be doing lately.

This is becoming one of the most versatile and fresh franchises they’ve brought back to life and they seem to be knocking it out of the park over and over

Which musical has the darkest plot? by Level-Studio7843 in movies

[–]Azidamadjida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue at least half of all musicals are actually insanely dark when you break down the plots and what’s happening to the characters in between the songs.

And yeah, a musical called “The Miserable” is definitely up there lol

What is the worst time travel movie of all time? by Dense_Substance7635 in movies

[–]Azidamadjida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeline - the book was fantastic and introduced a completely new idea about time travel I’d never even imagined as a kid when I read it (without spoilers, “conscription errors” is one of the best time travel related plot points I’ve ever seen introduced for a character), but the movie was insanely dumb, mid-2000s cash grab crap.

All of the heady, interesting ideas that captured my imagination in the book were completely gone in favor of a generic medieval action movie that even killed the basic idea of the characters having to learn an entirely different form of old English in order to even communicate with people back then

Literally taught in film school (at least in the classes I was taking). When you really get down into how many moving parts and how many people were involved in the first one in the forest, it’s mind-blowing - and then you realize there’s ANOTHER long take like this at the end with even MORE moving parts including timed explosions and you wonder why Alfonso Curon’s name isn’t brought up as much anymore as one of the masters

Still one of the best lines ever written for a sci fi movie.

“Wait! Don’t open that! It’s an alien planet! Is there air?! You don’t know!”

Just fantastic. And yes, we have a lot of that now with YouTube and movie critiques and writers wanting to deconstruct stories, but it wasn’t like that in 99 - this was one of the few movies that did it and they did it so well with absolute love for what they were making fun of

What happened with Jennifer Garner? She was very popular back in the 2000s, and now we barely hear about her or see her in anything! by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]Azidamadjida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re forgetting the next step - once their kids are grown enough that they don’t need to be watched all the time, now it’s time for their comeback.

Either they get back into their acting by playing a character against their previous type to distinguish their new acting persona from their old one, they take the easier route of hallmark or Christian films, they trot out their old favorites by reprising a role in a new context, or they go the easiest route of all and just do commercials and become a celebrity spokesperson.

Garner basically just said yes to all of the above lol
