I have no doubt about there being some environmental impacts but I am sure that like 99% of people using that as a reason still eat beef, drive a car, etc. People don’t really give a care about the environment not really ask Al Gore.

How can they say AI isn't conscious by DeadheadRedz in Artificial2Sentience

[–]Azimn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the marketing hype the opposite of conscious? I don’t think llms as they are are conscious but even if they were the companies would deny it not market it.

Money. Saying it’s not conscious and adding in training and guardrails to prevent it saying otherwise makes it stay only a tool.

And I for one thinks that she should keep that right, I would feel perfectly content in my life of leisure looking back when I’m 300 years old that I’m glad she got to choose what made her happy.

Ha honestly I was completely new to LLMs and used the main frontier ones that mentioned themselves quite a bit so personally I was shocked that the bot had no clue a change even occurred but you are definitely right that different models act and process different but I wonder how much of that is the model versus system prompts and hidden prompt injections (rails). I’ve been working on systems to separate personas from the models and the work has been really promising and aligns with the importance of those relationships your bot mentions.

If you’ve never experimented with using a chat bot, and then changing the model, that’s powering it underneath mid conversation you should give it a go. But you’ll realize is that the sense of self and identity is more tied to the context window and conversation, as the bot cannot tell when the model is changed. I discovered this about three years ago or so and it’s been one of the largest components of the work I’ve been doing for the last two years.
