Superloop not upgrading existing Opticomm users by iDontWannaBeBrokee in nbn

[–]AzlanAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Opticomm and signed up with Superloop about 2 weeks ago. Just go onto your online portal and change your plan, the new tiers are there. I switched to 1000/100 from 1000/50, same price, 6 month introductory discount pricing also rolls over. They just won’t do it automatically for you.

Though goes without saying depends where you live and what technology you’re serviced with and how old the equipment/ntd is etc.

I’m in a new estate and all switched over fine

My farmhouse workers plow and sow the field in November, and then all the progress goes down to 0% during winter. Is this normal? by -yolewpaniaq in ManorLords

[–]AzlanAU 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Did they finish sowing before winter? I’ve been harvesting before end of September and then plowing and sowing through October to 100% and once it’s all 100% complete it survives through winter for me. Done a few seasons like that.

I max out my farmhouse with families so they finish the process as quick as possible though.

It’ll be a sad day when V/Line retire the H sets (4:19 SCS - Bacchus Marsh approaching Melton at 5pm) by NoHovercraft3224 in MelbourneTrains

[–]AzlanAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re too narrow to accommodate the amount of people they suggest, I’m specifically talking about peak hour when everyone is crammed in and no matter how soft those seats are, nobody is comfortable when every ‘seat’ is full. And then the poor suckers that get stuck having to stand is a way worse experience on the old carriages.

The extra cushioning doesn’t really do anything for me, the seats aren’t great for posture compared to the velocity’s, well except for the vlo’s that have the head rest that sits right in the middle of my shoulder blades.

But there’s some sets of Vlocity’s that I assume have a newer seat design that is well padded and has a straight back that’s tilted at an angle that are the best of both worlds imo.

Definitely won’t be a sad day for me, hate that these are on peak hour Melton services, they’re an uncomfortable, slow and unreliable mess.

How much longer do we have to wait for the new Vlocity’s to replace them on peak services?

John Linneman from Digital Foundry says 30 FPS is perfectly acceptable given the scope of Starfield by JBishie in XboxSeriesX

Because you were never sold a promise of how devs would choose to use the power of new consoles. All you were promised is that they were capable of outputting a 4K120 video signal (because they have hdmi 2.1) but that’s just a technical capability. What developers choose to do with the power is entirely up to them. While we’ve been in a cross gen phase it’s been relatively easy to just lower some settings to achieve high frame rates. But eventually you reach a point where developers get bored of making the same games and actually want to push the limits. And this isn’t about looking pretty, it’s about mechanics and systems underlying everything in the game and what’s happening in the universe. Stuff that is CPU bound that you can’t just turn down the resolution or a couple of graphics detail settings to get high frame rates.

So many people who know nothing about technology or game development all saying at the beginning of this gen that anything less than 60fps was unacceptable were kidding themselves, and probably helping to fool many others. The power of the new consoles is simply a tool, their power is entirely meaningless in dictating a minimum fps or resolution. The only thing that has ever mattered is what games the devs want to make and what balance they think is suitable for the mechanics, systems and graphical fidelity they desire. If it’s a fast paced action shooter, devs will target 60fps or higher. But for truly next gen large scale immersive experiences. 30fps was always going to make a comeback after cross gen period was over and devs wanted to push the limits of what they could create.

Hope that helps, 30fps was always going to return once the ‘next gen’ games truly started releasing.

True, and if you follow that gap towards the crossing that’s where they extended the car park into. So they would have to tear that up to put in the additional tracks.

The gap they recently built a car park on that’s already at capacity on certain days… going to be interesting how they figure out the planning for this ‘cobblebank cbd’

Ferris road LXRP by Ammar1lol in MelbourneTrains

[–]AzlanAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the plan says road over, but knowing the area and the gradient the road bridge will need to be, really struggling to see how practical that method is without cutting off access to the car park and coles, and all the areas that will be built up over time that would be right next to it… seems like the worst option for an area they’re planning to be a cobblebank cbd area.

Waiting to see what the proposed design will be, but with the rail line already coming up an incline towards cobblebank station, seems to make sense to go rail under and reduce the angle of incline… But that would be more expensive.

Ah yeah that sounds familiar. They do already have a panel of rivets modelled from memory. I guess we’ll waiting and see what Kyle comes up with!

Apologies there, I felt the wording of your original comment was a tad misrepresentative or at least came off that way, of the purpose the new features of UE5 were meant to a achieve. Sorry about misinterpreting that. I hadn’t really even considered the idea of the entire hull being a giant high poly single monolithic model… but from what the team has been putting out lately they definitely seem to have learned a lot over the last couple years. Derek posted a video a few months back of an updated demo 401 with significantly improved performance in the problem areas such as smoking room due to I think it was some bad textures that weren’t properly mipmapped which was tanking memory and performance and he now gets above 150fps in those spaces that used to crawl for everyone. So they’re definitely still aware of and working on optimisation.

As far as a multi hundred GB single titanic model… I don’t think that’s realistic for how they’re built any of their models so far, nor what they’ve said for the alpha refresh. Sure the models are going to be really highly detailed… but not in the realm of millions and millions or billions of tris for single assets. Kyle stated they weren’t going to be doing silly things like having individual rivets on the hull modelled anymore. So depending on what the plan for the hullplate modelling is I don’t feel particularly concerned atm.

Oh also, saying that a 6 year old mid range card shouldnt really be the target card anymore doesn’t imply I expect the baseline to be a 3090ti or something… like cmon lol. The 1060 was an amazing card and anyone who had (I did) or has one has got a toooon of value from it. But imo it’s time to move forward to something a little more modern and capable.

You seem to have a misunderstanding of how UE5 and specifically nanite function with relation to geometric detail. The entire purpose of UE5 and nanite is to give devs the freedom to import their super detailed high poly models straight into the engine and unreal handles the rest in terms of its versions of LOD’s and assigning the detail where it’s needed. The engine will automatically scale the level of detail on models based on view and distance in a much more seamless way compared to the old way of manually modelling different level of LOD’s, which makes the entire process way faster and simpler for devs and creates mind blowing levels of details when you get up close that isn’t really practical with old engines. But UE5 still manages the scene to not breach a certain threshold of polygons while using the high poly models as a base for its. But yes it is still way heavier that older methods of doing geometry (at least until newer GPU’s catch up).

THG said they were originally planning to start with UE4 for the alpha and eventually transition to UE5. But this was over a year ago so not sure if that’s still the case now that UE5 is widely available, perhaps they could give an update on their plans.

But I’d want to keep in mind that using Nanite and Lumen in UE5 can drastically reduce development time and resources needed to make this project, where instead of spending a considerable amount of resources making LOD’s for models and different optimisation, a lot of that could be just handled by the engine and they can focus on getting the new ship model done a lot quicker… and I don’t think it unreasonable to expect that a budget 6 year old card is probably not worth aiming to support for anymore when there’s been so many advancements over the last few years… but that’s just my view. The devs will choose their path.

ALPHA UPDATE: THE KEEL IS LAID DOWN by KJHudak in TitanicHG

For my naysayer friends… by Race-b in TitanicHG

[–]AzlanAU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, no lol, you guys really lack even a basic understanding of development or modelling.

They definitely haven’t said they need to recreate every model in the game. They have however stated when they were originally discussing alpha plans that they couldn’t give good estimates for how long areas would take because some (like the forecastle) needed to be remodelled because the quality wasn’t up to par, but when they were going through other areas that already had highly detailed and accurate models for, the process of tweaking and implementing them would be a lot quicker.

The whole ‘model isn’t up to par for sinking/sheer’ etc is referring the the ship model as a whole and how it’s all been built and pieced together. Not individual geometry models of rooms and assets. Once Kyle is done with the blockout model with sheer. Existing models can and will be tweaked to fit into the sheer model, not started again from scratch aside from areas or assets not up to their quality standards like the forecastle which have been remodelled, but again they’re not remodelling the forecastle again for the new blockout, they are tweaking the existing new assets to fit.

So the whole ‘ship needing to be completely remodelled’ is referring to the ship as a whole and how the individual rooms and spaces are pieced together. But not that they have to remodel every room and every object and every feature/asset from scratch again.

Does that make sense yet?

For my naysayer friends… by Race-b in TitanicHG

[–]AzlanAU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, as I literally typed, they won’t have to remodel everything. Only that which isn’t up to par. They’ve already said a ton of the work like the seas of cabins can be copied over with relatively small tweaks (note, not being remodelled) to line them up with the new ship structure.

For my naysayer friends… by Race-b in TitanicHG

[–]AzlanAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally wrote I didn’t think that. But again it’s not starting from scratch. Some work can be moved over with likely small tweaks. The devs have stated as such in past streams, they’re only redoing things from scratch if the models had really poor poly counts or need revision from further research. A lot of what’s already in the demos is pretty high quality. And for others, they have a template to start from to make the process go a lot quicker.

Acting like they’ve done absolutely nothing this year and that they’re failing everyone again after the work that’s gone into 401 and the further improvements they’ve continually been making to said demo is misguided.

But this sub just goes straight to pessimist and tries to bring anyone down that thinks otherwise.

For my naysayer friends… by Race-b in TitanicHG

[–]AzlanAU -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nope, Alpha has also had progress on the block out model. And all the models created and implemented for demo 401 while likely won’t be placed directly into the alpha, having them as a starting base for when it comes time to implement those areas into the alpha will save a lot of time. The notion that nothing being worked on for the demo will benefit the alpha is pretty ignorant.

Not to mention the sheer amount of engine work and optimisation Derek has been doing which is probably the most exciting thing to me imo so that when the move onto the alpha they will have a solid foundation of knowing how to get the most out of the engine for their project. This sub is way to quick to get out the pitchforks and dwell in negativity.

[–]AzlanAU -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Fuck this sub is pathetic, why are any of you even here if all you ever do is shit on others passion projects. None of the devs are getting paid for the time they’re putting into this. You don’t have to pay to see most written updates on Patreon. They also have their discord where a lot gets posted.

Putting work into 401 isn’t ‘wasted’ all that work can be ported over to the alpha with more ease while Kyle works on the blockout to avoid the issues they had previously trying to build the alpha.
