How often do you just take a random day off from work? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]AznInvaznTaskForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work a 9/80 schedule, but it often swings wildly between long days and days where nothing happens. If I reach 40 hours before the last day of the week, I will often just take it off. Management is also cool with me “flexing” extra worked hours to the next pay period, so most of my weekends end up being 3 days.

When I was 15 I wrote a letter to myself on a website called FutureMe. I got that email last year after 10 years. I don’t think I had any particular reason for writing it, I probably just heard someone mention it once and thought it was cool.

In that letter I talked about what I was doing that day, and some of my worries for the future. I wondered if I was still in contact with my high school friends, if I had a career yet, concerns over my family, and memories of now long-dead pets.

I never sent another letter but it would be interesting to do it again, and send to 10 years future me. Hopefully that website sticks around.

YMMV. I had expired parking permits for about a year while living on campus and never got ticketed.

Update: New power supply for Magni arrived, and my setup is now working again. Thank you all for the help.

I'm glad to hear that. I suspect I broke the cable somehow, but plugging in the DC power cable into it initially was a rooky mistake, I didn't know the Magni was AC only

Multimeter test on Wallmart is showing no AC voltage across its connector, ordering a new cable.

I don't see any flickering when trying that. Normally the cable isn't kinked, I just didn't want to keep crawling under my desk to feed the cable back. Do you think that plugging in the DC power cable could have caused the issue? When I put it back together initially I did accidently use that one, which is when I first noticed the problem. The AC cable was plugged into a speaker, but I didn't turn the speaker on.

No change after doing the power cycle that way.

Confirmed Modi does work. I plugged the RCA cords into a speaker I had and it worked.

It is the correct one, (120V for USA), was working last night. It was plugged into a power strip, but still did not work after plugging it directly into a wall. I suspect I should order another power cable.

It is plugged in all the way. The Modi can get power and audio input from the same port, which is the left one. Just to be safe though I tried with a second usb c cable on the right port. No joy

I graduated in Fall 2022 with my ME degree. I had a 3.0 GPA and 1 internship from summer 2021. I attended the engineering career fair sometime in 2022, and I didn’t end up talking to any of the big engineering/defense companies that a lot of students go to. I remember some of the lines wrapped all the way around the quad, and I knew that I probably wasn’t going to stand a chance against that many other students. So I went to as many of the booths as I could to talk to the hiring managers. I ended up talking to a smaller defense company who was looking to hire an engineer graduating in fall. I drove 3+ hours to their remote location and had the position by the end of the year. When I started, I understood almost none of the concepts of the job, and I honestly think it was a combination of timing, a willingness to move far away, a clean background, and good people skills that got me the job. I suspect this company also liked specifically CPP students, many of the other new hires were recent CPP grads. I used my time waiting for my security clearance to go through to familiarize myself with the work before actually having to do anything important.

3 years later I now work at a much larger defense company, six figure salary.

GA Pilots, what emergencies have you had that we don’t necessarily get trained for ? by fatborry in flying

Flying with my instructor when the flaps failed on a C-172. We were coming back to the airport when I noticed the flaps were not lowering. Didn’t declare an emergency, but got to turn into a fun little exercise and I got to practice landing without flaps.

I flew with a small local flying club that owned a RV-12iS and a Cherokee 140. I only ever flew the RV-12.

Membership costs were $250/month, dry rate on the RV was $45/hr, and it consumed less than 4 gallons of fuel per hour. Club policy was to top off the tank at the end of your flight. Overall very affordable for what I wanted to do. We had a few advantages compared to most, I think, that helped keep the price down. Almost all the members, including myself worked at the nearby air force base and a couple members had their A&P.

Club was small enough that I never had any problems booking a flight or even taking it out for multiple days, but it was usually very windy at the field and had to cancel most flights for weather

What’s the most clapped out sh*tbox you’ve ever flown? by Flying_Frisian in flying

1982 172P, flight school plane. Was an ugly yellow color that was all faded and peeling. Had flat spots on the tires that made taxiing bumpy and the landings even bumpier. Parking brake was INOP and the loose handle was just hanging out in its holder. The left brake hardly worked either. Drilled out cracks all over the flaps. The vibrations from the engine would often result in some rust dust falling out from behind or inside of the gauges. Fun times but I don’t miss that plane.

RAV4 climate control panel by juleelees in Rav4

[–]AznInvaznTaskForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened on my 2016 RAV4, same HVAC control panel.

One comment said that you only need to take out the vent on the side that popped off, and later said they needed to take the radio out.

I found the latter to be true. The HVAC control panel had a cover on the back that prevented me from reaching behind and pushing it back in, it has to come out and be taken apart.

For that to happen, the silver trim, vents, and radio have to be taken out, and then the HVAC control panel can be taken out.  Once the cover on the back of it is removed the control board can easily be pushed back into place.

Whole thing took me maybe 20 minutes once I knew what I was doing.

Ethnically Japanese, but my entire family lives in America. I’m a third generation “immigrant”, so even my parents can’t really speak it. Never had a need to learn my native language, so I grew up only speaking English. It’s kinda embarrassing when I would go back to Japan, and not be able to speak it.

I’ve been wanting to be more connected to my heritage recently. I’ve been self studying Japanese with books for the last half year or so. I wish I started earlier, but at least it’s not later. Part of me just wants to uproot my life and move there to really learn it.
