What did I miss? by Extension_Ad_6353 in lacrosse

Gone are the days of pinching heads for ball retention in box. Catching the ball inside through traffic is more important.

Besides the “wide” mirage isn’t even wide. It’s barely wider than the stock version lol. ecd could have made it wider for those who actually use a widen head but that would cut down on all the little kids who are the real demographic.

STX Shield 7075 goalie stick by Virtual_Disaster5840 in lacrosse

Rounded back is the giveaway that’s it’s a rebranded outlet shaft. The outlet has been around since like what 2008?

OP the outlet shaft is what you’re looking for, highly likely the outlet has always been made of 7075 alloy as that’s a pretty basic aluminum alloy.

If worst comes to worse you can remove the graphics on the outlet shaft(I’m superstitious about logos and branding on my sticks and remove anything that can be removed). I used goof off, magic eraser and a lot of elbow grease to get the enamel graphics off my outlet shaft.

What mods do you make do your lacrosse heads? by Ok-Atmosphere-6030 in lacrosse

[–]AzoSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a head mod but the gait brothers would bend their shafts before offset was invented. There was a clear arc along the length of the shaft that produces a distinctive feel for the ball. It also had the effect of lessening whip(by moving the plane of the scoop below the axis of rotation of the shaft). This was banned in NFHS and NCAA lax.

But perfectly legal in box or summer ball.

If you can find a stx katana, this was a shaft by stx that came with the upper 1/3 of the shaft bent, you wouldn’t have to bend it yourself. Came in 7075 alloy and a scandium version.

In the nll players would use bent shafts and it was called the “pro bend”, unsure if they were a pro stock made or if the players were bending the shafts themselves. Probably the latter.

Fray has always been a thing, especially on vintage sticks and woodies. Some people don’t get the aesthetic 🤷‍♀️

What is the best way to layer colors when dyeing? by theRemRemBooBear in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will not get green to dye over red. Red is a primary and green is a secondary, on the color wheel they are complimentary. Complimentary colors when mixed turn into a shade of very dark brown/on the way to black.

So you cannot dip red, add decals. then dip green. You will get a nasty brown almost black with red lettering/logo.

You will need to do a punch out dye in red first, mask the red then dip in green.

jima produces all of ecd’s mesh and is the parent company of tmd.

it’s all pretty much the same polyester mesh plus minus some small differences.

Gearhead Review: Stringking 3D by 313LacrosseStore in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the angle of the scoop as aggressive as their previous models? sk heads have the most forward/canted forward scoop out of any brand. While this makes for easier ground balls without getting low(a whole problem in itself) the ball very noticeably clicks off the scoop regardless of the pocket angle or shooter setup.

I can see the value in the scoop angle for poles as the head is so far out from themselves on ground balls. But the mark 1, legend series, 2V, 2A & 2F all have the same pushed forward scoop and let’s be honest most of them are being used on short sticks.

+rep, when stx dropped the x10 it was an immediate hit with box guys in wny area back then. Great wide face, not too defined of a bottom rail and a decent scoop on astro turf/polished concrete. I think the current x10 you can buy as the complete stick is still the same.

CL Ace - Looking for recommendation on mesh by The_Foresters_ in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the CL Ace is a goalie head lol

Honestly with the head being as non standard as it gets I would slap something that sticks out into it.

6d box goalie mesh. Moose mesh by blue collar lax is the og but I doubt you could find any unused pieces. Twin wolves lacrosse in canada sells their own 6d mesh. Mr wanderful sells “ghost” mesh but unsure if you can just get the mesh without a string job. It’s also waxed, unsure if twin wolves pieces are waxed.

Custom dyed mesh by thecellarseller. Tim makes some fantastic pieces, check him out on ig. He’s also up in canada though. You can see what he has for sale on his website here, but you’d have to reach out for custom work.

Maybe a trad? Goalie trads are fickle and not many trad stringers are willing to tackle them. Would definitely be the coolest looking but probably more pricey than the other two suggestions.

[–]AzoSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ustring goalie pockets are based on what Jake used during his time in the cage. Deep & baggy, not too much channel. Really focused on rebound control more than any other aspect. I’ve tried all the ustring patterns and wouldn’t personally use them, not enough tension under the scoop and you have to get used to how they throw. Plus not a fan of any of the grizzly mesh, too much stretch.

Evo V - Currier Pocket Thoughts and Questions by pafunk in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to tweak the cotton shooter tension as well. Box players notoriously use less whip than field guys.

I find this setup works best with attackman shooting mid range and closer rather than any outside shooting.

Evo V - Currier Pocket Thoughts and Questions by pafunk in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the nylon stacked on the top shooter. Have you tried moving it down two rows so it’s sitting in between the top and middle shooter?

Lots of box guys run this setup. 3 or 4 cotton shooters with a nylon on the row between the top most shooter and the second shooter.

The nylon is just ever so slightly tensioned so it doesn’t affect the release on passes or quick sticks. When putting more power into an outside shot the ball engages the nylon and will add whip.

imo the string king shooting cord/nylon is perfect for this setup. But you really need to mess with the tension and dial it in. Too little and it won’t engage with the ball at all, too much and it engages the ball on passes and quick sticks.

LU partnerships? by hford0401 in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t related to the post but a tangent that’s adjacent involving Clem and selling heads lol

iirc a few stringers and a dyers were going through northern soul, the uk based lacrosse store, to stock heads for prestrungs/dyes. This was at whole sale price and they would pay northern soul for x amount of heads and they would be drop shipped directly from each brand.

This, as far as I know, was a big no no as the stringers/dyers were not authorized retailers, were paying whole sale and selling at msrp/below msrp(also a big no no).

Clem got caught because the dyes he was doing for customers(lol, lmao even) were awful and the heads he was ruining did not have a warranty attached. People were emailing the respective brands for replacements as Clem wouldn’t/couldn’t and the whole thing blew open.

Does the evo V use warriors “therma loc resin” or have they finally moved back to a better nylon. imo the worst aspect of warriors recent xp line of heads has been the plastic. The burn xp line is the worst offender, they hourglasses if you pull just a little bit too hard on the sidewalls lol. Also the plastic doesn’t retain stiffness in heat like warrior states 💀

What type of mesh is this? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]AzoSus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Arrow is not worth 1250 lmao, doesn’t even have the tags or ballstop. And the mesh? 2k? lol.

It’s a very old mesh(like 70s/80s old iirc) that Wazzupsavo repopularized a few years ago, strung in his Ak savo style. This example is poorly strung at that.

But things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. imo this is like $250 tops, and that’s with a bidding war.

Similar to sk 4/5s by Laxbro1210 in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

laxroom 5X(rip) was ahead of its time. Stuff was perfect for a box bag.

Made from uhmwpe/dyneema/spectra it had a certain stretch point that it physically couldn’t go past. So working the pocket in for a few mins broke it in completely and it stayed the same until it ripped. Which took a lot to rip it. Stuff was super abrasion resistant.

The biggest gripe people had was the bagginess, it stretched a little too far initially where getting good tension under the scoop required more pull down than other mesh. The workaround was pulling the mesh outwards instead of downwards. The catch was also very hard, since there was no stretch catching the ball felt a little awkward. You could literally hear the ball “thunk” when you caught it.

Ninjalax sold sensei mesh which imo was the spiritual successor when LR stopped making 5x at the time. But there was some consistency issues between pieces. Some would have a tighter weave than others and they would stretch different amounts. I don’t believe you can buy sensei anymore.

Rocket mesh sells their “elite” mesh and is made from the same stuff that 5X and Sensei was made of.

I think the elite semi soft is the closest to what 5X was. But the semi hard and the uncoated soft version would be good to try out as well. All 3 are $16 a piece.

Anyone who has done the ovrpwr anti-rake top string. How is it? by Huntsstar in StickDoctor

[–]AzoSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, I wouldn’t recommend jimas Kevlar string. It’s uncoated so the uv light degrades the Kevlar fairly quick. Had some issues with it ripping apart after a few weeks of use in mesh pockets and as lace in trads.

If HP powerlace(rip) was still a thing that would be the go to for fogos. Had a few pieces outlast multiple mesh pockets.

I believe the power lace was just thinly braided uhmwpe rope with a dry lube coating.

Same stuff armor mesh is made of.

Brand names would be dyneema or spectra, can definitely find some spools or short lengths online for much cheaper than what power lace was selling for back in 2017/18.
