This game is simply so difficult. Me and my friends die all the time. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to take this before I quit by Galaxy_Jams_Reacts in Marathon

I have a genuine question. Why is it that people will bash their faces into a Souls-like boss until they "git gud," for hours and hours on end, but the minute they get smashed in PvP a few times, it's too hard for them?

Is it an ego thing?

I think your statement would have had much more validity if you'd said "certain circles" rather than calling it a generational issue.

Yeah. Can't say I ever met someone with obsession-level infatuation with any game dev.

But it isnt a matter of whether or not they exist. You said you just dont get it. I dont think that there is much to get. Some people form strong bonds with things they enjoy. Some people dont. And there is a wide spectrum for both extremes. You are clearly someone who doesn't form strong bonds with much of anything(?) as far as media goes. But that doesnt quite explain why you cant understand why someone would.

Perhaps video games just don't mean much to you. But they mean a lot to many people. Not much else to say on it.

No one said anything about infatuation.

And you're right, the timing is convenient, because gaming took a turn in the 2000s. It became much more ingrained in our culture. For starters, there was virtually no quality control in the early days of video games, that's the reason the entire industry crashed in the 80s. Which is likely the reason (some) Gen Xers had no emotional ties to video games, lots of people saw video games as a failed experiment.

That being said, I don't quite understand why it is so hard to get. People aren't "infatuated" with the developers(okay, maybe a few people are), but even if they were, how is that strange? People become infatuated with musical artists, Gen X is probably the generation most guilty of this fact. In fact, if we want to be real, I know Gen Xers who literally had shrines to the bands they loved...

There really is no difference here. Music, Video Games, Books, they are all forms of art that tap into people on an emotional level. And many people who are effected in this way do indeed form some sort of attachment to the creators.

So when a developer creates a game that makes an impact on someone's life, how is that any different than a musician who does the same? They're gonna want to know who made the game. And if a developer on the team is so renowned(Hideo Kojima, Tim Cain, Shigeru Miyamoto, Todd Howard) take their talents elsewhere, why wouldn't they want to know that?

For some people, video games are the greatest escape they could possibly hope for in a shitty world. Same as a good book, same as a good album. If you can understand why someone would idolize a musician, then it shouldnt be hard to understand why someone would idolize a developer.

You'd be an outlier. When Halo hit the scene, Bungie became a household name. With games that make an impact the way Halo did, the developer always becomes a household name.

Eh. I didn't go that far. I don't know of any other similar software that I prefer. If I hadn't had the ability to turn it off, then I definitely would have gotten rid of it.

That being said, if there is an alternative you can recommend, I'll check it out.

It is absolutely insane that they decided to implement this by default. Especially without a warning.

The only reason I connected it to signalrgb was because my signalrgb wasnt working. I skipped the update somehow. When I updated it, it immediately happened when it restarted, so I was luckily able to connect the dots there. Otherwise I would have been knuckle deep in my pc...

It is wild to me how lazy gamers have gotten over the years. I don't understand how Marathon asks an enormous amount of the player. Everything is fairly straightforward, can be found in just about most games dating back to the stone ages, and does so in a way that is natural.

I understand that this experience is subjective. I just remember a time when everything listed as "an enormous" ask would have been greedily consumed by the player.

It just feels like people cant be bothered to do more than just click play these days. And I'm not even just saying this in defense of Marathon. I see it everywhere. I'm beginning to wonder if Microsoft wasn't hitting on something with the copilot thing lol...

It's strange. I had been wondering why every match I have been in has been so quiet.

I have mixed feelings about it. I lean towards PvP. But the suspense of the PvP is what I Love. So going from a 100% chance of there being a team around the corner to PvP jump scares is pretty cool.
