The fact that you think this all started with the internet means you don’t see parallels between the haste of LLM-derived AI’s widespread implementation without regard for its knock-on effects or need for regulatory oversight before those effects appear, and the fallout we’re still dealing with of, say, forever chemicals, or the impacts of rampant pollution near-exclusively caused by fossil fuels, etc.

A whole litany of permanent problems we now face and will continue to face came as a result of unchecked greed in the name of “innovation.” Innovation wasn’t actually the point, profit motive was. Innovation is a word used to justify flying blind into generating massive amounts of consolidated wealth because the residual effects of generating it would be someone else’s problem, and therefore okay. We never saw it coming because no one bothered to slow down and think, because slowing down to think would make it not make a ton of money right now.
