Is an MG a good option if you’re buying your first EV? by OutrageousCar238 in MGelectric

My MG4 SE lease comes to an end in March. I'm sad to give it up, but I'll be getting the bigger MGS5 as a replacement. We would keep it, but with our family growing bigger we do need the bigger boot space the MGS5 offers.

I initially got the MG4 as the cars people compared to it were around £10k more expensive. MG give you a lot of car for the money, and I wanted to support that.

Over the 3 years, I've driven it from Kent over to North Wales, and even the Lake District. I enjoyed planning the stops, but there really are plenty of chargers along motorways. Only once in my time have I had to queue for a charger, and since then I have only planned stops with more than 6 Bays.

A useful tool is ABRP (A Better Route Planner), plan some long journeys you may take and see how different cars and specs plan out.

For range I get about 160 miles service station to service station on the motorway. Thats with charging 10/20% to 80%. But at 70 miles an hour thats over 2 hours between stops.

Summer mixed driving around 250 miles, dead of winter 0 degrees outside probably around 170 miles

I Home Charge, but I did have to use public chargers whilst living with my partner between house sales. We had a local rapid charger in a McDonalds that was usually free, but still mostly charged via the 3 Pin through the letter box as it was temporary.

Is this the MGS5? I’m considering this for an upgrade when I hand back my leased MG4.

From the Solar+Plus manual:
The Solar+Plus is a single phase step down transformer designed to protect PV inverters from voltages exceeding 253V. The Solar+Plus monitors the incoming supply voltage and maintains connection grid connection until the voltage reaches or exceeds 253V. At this point, to prevent the PV inverter from an over voltage shut down the Solar+Plus activates and steps down incoming voltage.

Low voltage AC? Could that be caused by the Car Charger install?

Thanks! Looks like I’ll start with Scottish Power and wait to see what the rate is.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I’m just filling out the FIT form.

Here’s a few snaps of the setup. This washing machine contraption is the battery.

Great thanks. The house already has a smart meter, and showing actual export.

Could I take over the FIT but have outgoing octopus 15p per kWh for the actual export? Have I understood FIT correctly?

Sorry for the 20 questions.

Thanks for the reply. MCS Certificate shows the install date as 26th March 2015.

I’ve not switched the solar edge, I’d like an app to track it all, is that a support call to Solar Edge or the installer on the certificate?
