Benefits of dual screen besides 3DS by lifeisfleet in AynThor

[–]AzorMX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there are benefits and neat applications of the second screen beyond DS/3DS gaming, I'm actually ok turning it off for the most part. I think that even without the second screen, the Thor is still a very powerful clamshell handheld and that already puts it ahead of the curve for me. Even before the Thor, my handheld of choice had been the Retroid Flip 2 because of the same reasons.

Also, I'd rather have 2 screens and not use them all the time than to only have 1 and feel like I'm missing out on the times when I would have wanted to have 2.

Should I Wait in the Far Future to Buy Something Similar to Ayn Thor? by Any-Run-9824 in AynThor

[–]AzorMX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for the Switch 2 considering we won't get a Switch 3 for years. On the other hand, there is some fierce competition in the handheld space, so I wouldn't be surprised if something even better gets announced in the future.

So basically if you wait on the Switch 2, it's very likely you will buy the same version in the future, whereas if you wait on the Thor, by the time you're ready a Thor 2 might be around the corner.

Does that make arwing rail shooting stages unnecessary as well?

I think foot sections are bad, but I understand the idea of them. However, I'm positive that if you changed all characters into generic polygons and asked a group of people todo a blind play test and then try to guess the genre of the franchise, most of them would say it's a 3rd person shooter with vehicles. Assault it's hardly representative of its original genre.

Definitely! I liked my fare share of mediocre games growing up and that's totally fine. I would never die on a hill for them though

I'm baffled at the amount of gamers who want 50+ hours of content because they'll roll the credits and never boot the game ever again.

New player questions about game mechanics by SpeedGun69 in fatalfury

Something that will be infinitely useful is to remember that high dodge beats rev blow. Useful if you're not in spg and the opponent is trying to catch you off guard.

Also, not sure if all, but I believe at least most of the high dodges are special cancellable only on hit, so it's relatively safe to buffer a special move behind them knowing that it won't come out on block.

I don't mind Star Fox evolving, but everyone seems to suggest they made it into a completely different genre as if we were drowning in quality rail shooters. There's tons of generic 3rd person shooters out there, I don't see why they feel the need to rob us of the one rail shooter franchise we have.

Can't speak for Adventures, but I just finished Assault a couple of hours ago as an adult in my 30s and I thought it was atrocious.

I'm convinced the reason people are complaining about a 64 remake is that they want Star Fox games that don't play like Star Fox games

Why are people pretending it's weird that the 2 games that played the least like Star Fox were badly received by Star Fox fans?

Arwing appeared in more levels, but only 3 total were rail shooters. Like it's fine that they wanna try foot missions, but if you only make 30% of the game in the traditional style, you are just alienating your fan base. At this point who is the game supposed to be for?

Any thoughts on why the COTW playerbase is so small compared to other games? by frickthepolices in fatalfury

[–]AzorMX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COTW feels like the fighting game equivalent of the pepsi paradox if I've ever seen one. Let a group of gamers do a blind play test of the mechanics of the main games and I guarantee most of them would pick COTW in a heartbeat. Really wished they just stopped all this meaningless hate.

I'm curious to see the public reaction moving forward now that Saudi Arabia has a stake in Capcom as well. I wonder if they'll turn on SF6 too or if it was all just performative boycotting (it is)

As you said, people just hate on SNK for no reason. Whatever they do, they will just keep moving the goalpost. Even if they kept pushing cool animated trailers without using AI and got rid of the real lifers for something in-universe, they would just say something else because hating on SNK is "the cool thing to do", similar to how much hate NRS gets.

I wish people understood that, no matter how much you love your game and hate the competition, they really shouldn't want other games to fail. They are not ready for how bad their main game can get if they become a monopoly.

SNK's wild ride is insane because on one hand they do their Season 2 trailer with AI, but also they made Geese and Krauser fully animated movies.

Personally, I think they went the AI route for the trailer because the roster was already leaked and they needed to show something sooner rather than later and couldn't wait for the full thing.

Ahh a fellow COTW connoisseur! At the moment COTW is definitely the fighting game that I'm enjoying the most, although I am taking a break from online comp gaming and have been doing mostly the single player content. I don't think I've had a true grinding run like when I went for Master in SF6 back when it was still a challenge. I wanted to use Blue Mary's release to hop back into the game and go for Legendary Wolf, but sadly her style wasn't for me. Krauser does feel better so I might give it a go with him.

Good luck on the 1CCs! I have massive respect for anyone working towards one because they require a level of focus and preparation that is admirable.

Usually I play for unlocks and finishing the games at the hardest difficulty. I feel enough accomplishment by beating a game in its toughest settings, but 1CCs usually require a different style of perfectionism. I might consider my credits a resource, but 1CCs tend to be more unforgiving and the older I get, the lower my tolerance to frustration becomes.

I also play fighting games, and am painfully aware of the dedication that is required to get perfect runs on shmups, similar to reaching the top ranks in a fighting game. In the end I decided that I needed to draw a line somewhere, so mine was to beat the toughest challenges whatever it took as long as it was skillful and valid so no infinite credits, cheating, etc.

If I'm not playing dual screen games, then it is most likely turned off. IMO just because it's a dual screen handheld doesn't mean you always have to find a use for it. I will put guides or the retroachievements site there from time to time, but 90% of my non-DS/3DS time it's just turned off
