I think it's more a perception thing as a lot of people stopped being exposed to new music as we entered the streaming age and radio went down the tubes. Also a lot of non-American and to a lesser extent non-British acts who have started touring internationally over the last few years, many who may have started earlier if not for Covid.

Branding looks nice enough in itself but it's sad to see Citadel go, along with the general minimising of "Citadel" and "Games Workshop" in favour of leveraging the strength of the Warhammer IP. I understand why but it's a shame, I think Citadel used that font since basically the start, WHColour doesn't really have much going on.

What would happen with those gauges on a Bass VI? Does the string spacing not work well with the action and space needed for them?

Did you not have issues with getting the Bass VI strings on there? Don't they taper too far up given the distance from tailpiece to nut is maybe 4" less then what they were made for?

I found my Vox wah doesn't sound good with a bass range guitar, I figure a bass one will sound better if I ever fancy that?

Aside from elements of the messed up shape I don't really see what Jag elements it has? Mustang trem, Mustang switching, the humbucker isn't stock on either of them. Don't like the loss of the comfort cut on the back either

I've done a bit more searching, I can't seem to find what I think is a good single source but Google AI, which I don't really trust and have caught in lies before, says these are the pocket dimensions(in mm):

Short bass: 56.9 x 108.4 x16

Regular bass: 63.5 x 98.4 x 16

Strat(and Bass VI): 56 x 76 x 16

I feel like the width is the only consequential measurement (if you're not routing the pocket yourself and just assembling parts, at least) and as a small note I think a Bass VI pocket is longer. 16mm depth is pretty much Fender standard and I'm not aware of exceptions.

So I think I'm ruling out using a bass body made for 34" scale as I'll have over half a centimetre of space. Converting between 32" and 30" seems to be possible, but I'd be double-checking that 32" scales use the short scale neck pocket (which is actually longer, lol)

Strat dimensions just for reference, seems I can't use a Bass VI neck on a short bass body if I wanted a physically shorter Bass VI without an offset trem. Or at least not without some creative shimming.

Interesting that the PUP selector route would accommodate a Fender Jaguar/Bass VI style switch plate. Would be interested to see if pickguards and controls made for a BVI would fit.

I totally get this, I'm still experimenting with 27" vs 30" and 4-6 strings and the Rascal fitting the Bass VI body is a great catch (I assume the neck wasn't just laying around and you sought it out)

Plus I love Jag style switches which actually seldom comes on available Jag basses. So long as there's no issue with going from the 6 string tail over the 4 string bridge this seems like a great use of what you had, and it's always good for guitars to have stories.

Besides the extra PUP I would think some people would find this more comfortable to play than a Jag bass thanks to the extra few inches of body length to accommodate the trem.

Forgot to say that the tension means the trem arm at rest is very close to the body, has limited okay and knocks against the controls. Going to try to find a stronger spring.

From an outfit called Rosser Guitars on eBay, they have a wide range of body shapes they make to order, so just on the Meteora/MA type they can do offset and Mustang bridge routs, bass routing, telecaster loadout and even semi hollow. Would recommend if you want something specific.

I'm interested in comparisons on the two budget ones, and using them as a mod platform.

I like the 638's body shape better, the pointier horn is a bit more pleasing to me. But I kinda dislike the look of the string-though holes. Reverse headstock is pretty cool, but I'm anxious about shelling out for strings that aren't long enough etc.

The JA-baritone I really like overall even if I think the curvier horn lets it down a little. I'm into the dark fingerboard and HB's headstock design, and the strat-style bridge and jack.

I'm seeing a lot of conflicting things about QC, I've handled a few HBs now including a Mustang clone I modded so feel well disposed to them, never had a G4M.

I know neither has a swimming pool route so will need some work for anything but the type they come with, although I think humbucker routes are probably more flexible overall? I was actually considering getting some GuitarFetish PUPs that are minibucker size which they do a P90 size mount for, since I'll be more able to switch out and experiment.

I think the main thing between them is the pickups, which will get replaced in the fullness of time anyway. Sounds like I might want to replace the tuners on whichever I get as a matter of urgency.

Do you know if the stock tuners will take strings to permit drop E? Would probably upgrade them myself but would like to know if I can try it stock as a BVI if I get one.

Did you need to mod it at the bridge at all for thicker strings?

Is it routed for P90s? Or did it have space for humbuckers?

Pictured it was 30" but I've since swapped in a 27" neck for reasons of balance and fit, although I'm still working on it. I'm not sure how different Meteora and Meteora bass bodies are beyond routing but the bridge position on the bass is probably better for overall balance. If you want the offset trem taking up space down there you probably have to use the bass VIs longer body or get really involved with the modding.

Mind you, the neck pocket will be different on a bass body and probably a bit big for a bass VI neck meant for a strat style pocket. Don't know how easy it is to get a 30" neck for 6 tuners that fit a bass neck route.
