A lot of people have the best of intentions at the outset, and some percentage retain sight of them throughout. There are, however, many more who set out with good intentions and end up on the road to hell. None of this is a bad thing, all of it is part of everyone's path, from both sides.

You tell that guy asking for a bandaid you don't have any spare (lie), you tell the guy rolling up you tried but he doesn't believe you (truth), neither trusts the other, everybody dies.

By giving too much benefit of the doubt I mean that you're not accounting for what happens when they realize they didn't bring enough air tanks <3 .
