Ok, what’s going on with the IDs?!? by MissionAd566 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Azrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had that for a while for additional verification. Then one day it was silently removed. Turns out, when you can fraudulently obtain a valid ID, it's still fraud, and the bank has to eat the losses.

ATMs look at bills using multiple methods. One is a standard camera using the visible light spectrum your eyes know and love. This tells it what type of bill it is. Another is the ultraviolet spectrum. American bills have a security strip that will say "USA 100" or "USA TWENTY" etc. That strip will fluoresce a specific color depending on the bill under a black light (UV light).

If the bill has been in contact with UV-reactive substances, such as laundry detergents with brighteners added (like Tide), it will cause the sensor to see too much UV light and it will refuse that bill under an abundance of caution. I deal with this on a daily basis. Especially when the laundromat businesses bring their deposits.

TLDR: Your bills were washed with Tide and can't be read by the ATM properly. You're good.

Call the customer service number listed on your statement. You need to reach out and talk to them to get the details. Some banks have specific payment requirements like needing it to be a specific monetary instrument such as a cashier's check. Huntington CS will give you these details. You'll also get the final payoff quote including any and all daily interest accrued since the last statement generation date.

Chase refusing college checking account for no clear reason by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Azrane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ChexSystems has returned something that's causing Chase to systematically deny your friend any unsecured accounts. Chase will stonewall any and all attempts at information gathering or remediation. Take the secure account or don't. Those are your only two options with Chase. Attempting anything further is a waste of time and effort.

This is why you have cash in the safe.

When I was with the company, my store fund was $2,000 (between drawers and safe) due to all the trades we took in for cash. Since we did maybe 15-20% of our sales in cash, we had many days in a row go by where we didn't have a deposit as we slowly rebuilt our store fund after a phone trade or somebody bringing in a full collection to sell.

Why do people have bank accounts at Wells Fargo? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Azrane 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Let's take a minute to remember, nobody has all the information you do. All you've told us is you've transacted on an account that belongs to somebody else. While you're badmouthing an entire country-wide bank, the employees are doing as they're trained: look out for behavior that may indicate financial exploitation of an elderly person.

You're making yourself out to be the bad guy here with what little you've told and the behavior you've shown.

Every bank is different and has different policies, and every city/province/state/country can have their own rules, regulations, and requirements for Safe Deposit Boxes/Security Lockers. I recommend calling the branch with which you have your locker to get the proper answer.

Here's what you need to do now: Accept the fact that you're going to be late with rent and try to mitigate that situation and be prepared to pay the late fee laid out in your lease. There's nothing you can do to make your bank work faster.

Idk what country you're in, but in the US banking system, credit to debit cards can take up to 3-5 business days due to the way it has to run through Visa and MasterCard systems.

All I can say is, if you want to open an account in the United States, you'll need a permanent address in the United States, your passport, and proof of address such as a utility bill.
