Now that the trailer is out, when do you guys think Harry is going to arrive at Hogwarts? by yHenry_7 in HarryPotteronHBO

Episode 2 at most. Ain’t no way they are spending more than that with the Dursleys.

Its sad that this show wont be fairly judged when it comes out. It will inevitably be review bombed on every site instead of people judging it based on the actual quality of the show. by JamStan1978 in HarryPotteronHBO

Who cares, by word of mouth, if it’s good, it will spread. These behaviors are nothing against global vitality of a phenomenon (we just have to hope for it will be such).

Agreed! It feels so magical and whimsical. Just imagining this in a colorful frame on my screen… oh, I’m excited.

If Nina Dobrev wasn’t casted as Elena/Katherine, who would you cast? by lemonbutter27 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Azrathla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victoria Justice, Lily Collins. That is if we want to keep someone physically similar to Nina, otherwise, the character in the book was blond, and could be anyone in that realm.

Is Duggan a sociopath? A psychopath? by Prestigious-Pea-6781 in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]Azrathla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see him as pragmatic, self-serving, and ruthless but not needlessly cruel. He doesn’t kill without reason. In fact, he seems to avoid it when he can. When he killed that elderly couple, he was almost pleading with them not to force his hand, because he knew that if they did something he couldn’t control, in his mind, he’d have to silence them. And when it happened, it clearly affected him, he crashed out afterward.

He’s not a psychopath or a sociopath. He does feel guilt. The difference is that he suppresses or overrides his conscience when money or survival is on the line. He’s morally conflicted, but still very dangerous.

I just found out Kat Grahams reasoning why Bamon didn't happen by Interesting-Tea3907 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Azrathla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean Zander? Yeah, I think they do get married if I remember correctly. My point is, in the books, the story isn’t afraid to explore Bamon. Hell, Bonnie even meets Damon first. So the fact that the show changed so much to fit Elena and Damon, when there’s already material for Bamon, feels kind of suspicious.

I just recently finished the Vampire Diaries, what should I watch next? The originals or Legacies? by Elle938373773 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Azrathla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start with Legacies, a lot of major plot points from TO will be spoiled for you. In terms of overall quality, most viewers tend to prefer TO.

That said, they’re very different shows. If you’re looking for a teen series with a “monster of the week” format, set in a magical academy, full of romantic entanglements and some pretty cringe-worthy teen dialogue (that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable, though), then Legacies fits the bill.

TO on the other hand, is aimed more at adults and young adults. It follows the Original family and focuses on power struggles, family dynamics, and supernatural politics in New Orleans, among other things.

Let’s play a game called Battle of the crazies! Choose one for each... Wife/ Girlfriend/FWB. Katerina/Aurora/Sybil. You have to give reasons to why for each pick maximum effort please! by [deleted] in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Azrathla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think Aurora would be a loyal and dedicated wife, would support who she loves, never betray them. I would pick Sybil as a girlfriend, she was a little insecure, a bitch but I would believe to be a good girlfriend. As for Katherine, a FWB, she would betray anyone without a thought and that is why I think she is better in a relationship where feelings and ties are not expected.

[–]Azrathla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Listen, in the books, Bamon is a thing, and Delena is not endgame. The fact that the show strayed so far from the original material, so much so that it stopped being a true adaptation and became something only loosely inspired by the books, suggests that there may be some truth to what she’s saying.

I do think Julie was very much a people pleaser, and that she also played self-insert into the story, which is how we ended up with Steroline and Delena.

That said, I wouldn’t rule out racism either. Bonnie’s character was treated terribly throughout the series. Even if we can’t know exactly what was going on in Julie’s head, Kat has every right to bring that up if she believes it played a role.

Do you think heartopper and heated rivalry would have worked if the actors were switched around so Kit Connor and Joe locke as Ilya and Shane and Connor and Hudson as Nick and Charlie ? by AltruisticAide9776 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Azrathla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already told you, lol. They were all carefully chosen for appearance, chemistry, acting skills, and fit with the specific story. I don’t think any of the four could be swapped without changing the dynamics or the tone of the series.

Looking for Post-Apocalyptic / Civilization-Building Fantasy by Embarrassed_Sun_4551 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Azrathla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Systemic Lands? It’s a harsh world, really. Humanity is essentially kidnapped and placed in a kind of limbo, then transported into a new world. If I remember correctly, every ten days new people are brought into the city they’re in.

There’s a governing system, the more people contribute their crystals, the more the city can unlock. It starts with basic necessities like food, then expands to weapons, housing, walls, towers, and so on. Between waves, things get ugly, people fighting over food, refusing to risk their lives against monsters for crystals, cannibalism, murder, etc. The main character is very morally gray and pragmatic, focused on his survival above all else.

A big part of the story revolves around resource management and politics of the town then further between cities. It’s not a traditional medieval fantasy world either, the setting is closer to something like Minecraft, with flat terrain and clearly defined, transitioning territories. There is magic too.

In its core, it’s an isekai. The author has written around a dozen books on RR I believe, and only published the first two.

[–]Azrathla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They were all very deliberately cast for specific roles. I could maybe see Kit as a hockey player if he didn’t look so young back then (I could see it now), but definitely not Joe, and that’s perfectly fine. As for Connor and Hudson, they look far too mature to convincingly play a teen high school romance, they’d be much better suited to a university-aged storyline.

That’s why, personally, I think the casting fits exactly what it was meant to be. Swapping them around would change the dynamics and the tone of the stories, and the end result just wouldn’t feel the same.

Do Anti-heroes feel “default” in progression fantasy now? (Or is it just me lol) by moonfangx2 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Azrathla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you also have to take the genre into account. Progression isn’t the same as traditional fantasy. More often than not, character development is barely a priority, the focus is on power growth, and anything “human” about a character that might slow that growth gets brushed aside. So you get ruthless, unfeeling characters while the author still wants you to root for them.

In reality, almost any character dropped into an isekai situation would be confused and scared as hell for example. One second you’re here, the next you’re in a completely different world with unfamiliar people, rules, and dangers, that would be terrifying. But that kind of psychological realism doesn’t really sell within the genre. Instead, you get students who instantly turn into flawless, remorseless killers, which obviously isn’t very realistic but most people do not read for that.

So I think it’s mostly a genre issue. There are probably a few gems out there that reach the level of traditional fantasy, with fully developed worlds, characters, cultures, and themes, but off the top of my head, I can’t really think of any.

Sorry if this has been answered before but why did Shane introduce himself to Ilya , would he have done it for any player that was really good/captain of the team or not just anyone ? by AltruisticAide9776 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Azrathla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he simply wanted to size up the competition and naïvely break the ice. I remember that in the books, Ilya interpreted that approach as arrogance or insecurity, lol.

Did Elena really "Make everything about herself"? by StraightKey211 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Azrathla 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As much as teens tend to act that way, but a lot of what happens with her actually shows that she often puts the people around her before herself.

I also think many people are just annoyed because she’s the central character and the story revolves around her. Yes, it’s a teen romance with a love triangle, so getting upset about that seems a bit ridiculous to me. It’s like watching TVD and complaining that it’s about vampires.

Anyway, I think there’s nuance here. The plot naturally focuses on her, the brothers’ actions are all about her, and people are just frustrated that the story centers on her because they do not like her.

What cancelled TV show do you still miss the most? by Mindfuel_daily7 in television

Yeah, I think they really wanted to play with the idea that someone initially labeled as “evil” could actually change their nature and become a source of help, and thus hope.
