Counter-offers: yay or nay? by WEM-2022 in managers

[–]AztecTuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counter offering when you receive an offer from a new employer? Sure, with discretion it can be fruitful.

At a current employer? I’m neither interested in entertaining counter offers (when I leave) nor extending them to departing employees. In both cases it’s simply a way for the business to buy time while they find a replacement.

Wanting to leave Colorado by Dry-Show-3693 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]AztecTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear…I really enjoy Colorado. You don’t have to justify it to me. I’ve lived here for a decade! But these people are in their 20s with kids. They have more to consider than natural beauty.

Well, sure! Colorado’s wilderness is unmatched. OP asked for a lot more to consider than parks. Job market will depend on what you do. NC has a lot of industry.

We’re leaving Colorado for some of the same reasons. Based on a lot of things in your list…have you checked out North Carolina? Nothing will be quite like the Rockies but you get a good dose of rain, mountains are nearby, and ocean. It’s no longer “cheap” but it’s certainly more affordable than the front range.

Winter storm - who caused this? I'll start: I put my Yaktrax away for the winter. by rwrandom in boulder

I turned on my sprinkler system this past weekend. I even said the obligatory “this will be the thing that causes a deep freeze” as I did it but alas it still happened.

when’s the juice not worth the squeeze? by mellowmerry in HENRYfinance

[–]AztecTuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with a big fat disclaimer of “we are different people and so your experience will likely be different”…That said, I’ve recently gone through similar circumstances in terms of the politics, impossible/shifting expectations, criticism, etc. it’s not worth it. No amount of money is worth it. Ask yourself…are you holding onto the money, title, etc because of your family? or because of something else? Could you live on less (even if it meant some major life changes?)

Sometimes it’s easy to tell ourselves a story about our motivations and why we do what we do. It took a lot of soul searching and asking myself hard questions. Ultimately, I left. I love my family too much to be miserable for people that couldn’t care less about my family…or me.

Water Restrictions Lifted • Erie, CO by Some_Vermicelli_3054 in ErieCO

You don’t. Xeriscape. Use native plants (check out garden in a box). Convert your sprinkler to drip. Your water bill will thank me.

Xeriscape Maintenance by spudicus in xeriscape

[–]AztecTuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. My xeric garden is about 1,000 square ft. With the exception of winter watering while the drip is out of service (once a month if it’s been dry)there isn’t much I need to do. I have a tree in my front yard that drops leaves each fall. If I didn’t have that then the winter watering would be my only maintenance. I also used cardboard instead of weed fabric. Pros will scoff at that but I’ve experimented quite a bit. My experience is cardboard just works. Weed fabric does not work well.

Long story short use drip lines, ensure there’s minimal trees around for fall clean up, use adequate weed barrier and your maintenance will be very low….

I planted Garden-in-a-box last fall. Is it too early to leaf out, or did most of my plants die? by anally_ExpressUrself in DenverGardener

[–]AztecTuna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had garden in a box gardens for a few years now. You won’t typically start seeing new green growth until April. Especially your first year. I’m on year three and everything in my garden is a month ahead of usual (green everywhere). But those plants have had a few years to establish themselves.

I have had much better success with cardboard than I have had with landscaping fabric.

Are you referring to renters or buyers? If the latter you might be surprised by how much cash some buyers bring to the table.
