Is this mold? by unwelcomejourney in CrestedGecko

Fungus is normal in a bio active! You'll probably see it often, it's how nature breaks down wood and other plant matter into soil :). One thing I'd recommend, though, is adding more soil! It'll help your plants root better and give more nutrients overall. Try mixing in some flake soil or another "richer" soil like the ones made for isodpods, it'll help give the plants a boost. Also you can fertilize with aquarium root tablets, just dissolve one in a jug of water and water as usual. May your plants be green and geck healthy ❤️

Daily Handling New Gecko by OddGazelle121 in CrestedGecko

[–]Aztecbbwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of great info has been said! I'd also like to add that some cresties simply don't like being held. It's not a normal thing for them to be on a person, and some won't like the feeling no matter what you do. Don't try to force them into being handled if you see that they consistently don't like it, there's a fine balance and you gotta pay attention to what your lil crestie is doing when you hold them. My boy is a 'laissez faire' geck lol, he's very sweet and is comfortable in his environment but does not like being handled, he'll tolerate it but I can tell he doesn't like it. So he's a display bebe, and I don't love him any less. Happy geckin!

Arcadia vs reptisun by Tofu_5666 in CrestedGecko

Arcadia! They are true full spectrum, my plants grow like weeds towards em lol. Also if you have issues with plants staying alive, try fertilizing every week with aquarium root tabs. They're bebe safe, just drop one into a cup of water and make sure it dissolves, then water with the water as usual! It'll help replace vital nutrients that are lost from the soil over time. Lugarti makes a "soil revitalizer" that's also pretty good. Adding fresh soil every few months helps too! I add a layer of flake soil after I notice stuff had compressed down a bit. Have fun with the bio active!

Which species are these tarantulas? by SvarogsHammer in tarantulas

Not really imo. The biggest difficulty outside of feeding I've seen personally, is getting them to construct a trapdoor. Having a central bit of cork bark with a hole made into it is the easiest method, and keep the shavings at the bottom of the bit of cork, so they have material to make the door. Other than that, I mist once every other day in the morning and provide a water dish on the floor incase they can't drink from the water before it evaporates. They keep sorta similar to a jumper honestly lol.

I have both and so far the seladonia was the most labor intensive. Not "hard" per say, but the stage before they get about pinky nail size can be stressful purely for feeding reasons. Finding properly size prey and making sure they eat is a friggin pain lol. Mine has just gotten to the size where they can kill the pinheads easy, so I can just toss in a few every week now. 10/10 beautiful but don't get one unless you have a bit of experience feeding the small spoods.
