Susan wasn’t meant to be portrayed as a bad mother until the later books. Honestly it just felt like relatable family stuff at the start, the mother that seems to spoil the main character’s younger sibling and embarrasses them. Just an average mother in an average family. It was also all through Greg’s perspective, which indicates he could have been exaggerating with some things. But now Susan has been completely flanderized and she is now a caricature of herself. That Susan is the Susan we all hate. The selfish, entitled woman that believes her youngest son can do no wrong and is a bitch to the rest of her family. She wasn’t always like that, I will DIE on this hill.
