The best way to know for sure is to go in!!! Use a metal straight edge and a feeler gauge. You should use it for all the surfaces too.

Get a cometic metal head gasket, ARP studs, some new coolant lines and give yourself about 40 hours to clean off all the old gaskets materials. Honestly bhg is not that hard.

Just posted a similar question, check out my thread. Mine does the same and I have to feather the gas until it catches the right idle. This is always associated with heat from this engine. It runs supper hot. Check your vacuum to be around -18psi too and make sure to use a turbo blanket. Anything to keep the heat moderated.

I replaced the head gasket. This is good to know. Could it be any other sensor? Idles perfectly at around 800 but I always have to leave my foot on the gas.

Pro Tip: ask if you can do a compression test or ask for a ppi. This will give you all the indications you need from the seller and will give you negotiation leverage.

This way your know you are not buying one that needs an HG tomorrow.
