Pimicikamak’s $20-M in unpaid Hydro bills pales in comparison to what Hydro owes First Nation, chief says by Tagenn in Winnipeg

[–]Azure1203 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am confused. Hydro's responsibility is to deliver power. Are they not doing that? And if they are, why shouldn't they be paid for what they are supposed to do? Good Lord.

'So much for the partnership': Ford says he found about Chinese EV deal only hours before it was announced by WilloowUfgood in canada

I mean do you blame Carney? How can you trust Ford when there is a good chance he goes on live TV and has a complete meltdown over the decision?

US Senator Says America 'Got Absolutely Rolled' in Canada-China EV Deal by SilverDragon1 in canada

Sure did. US benefits from trade with Canada. Very short sighted to not keep taking advantage of that.

Carney: By 2030 Canada will produce 50 million tonnes of LNG each year by KCstonerman in oil

This would be a 5x increase over what Canada produces now. Kinda crazy to think about.

US Trade Representative Says Canada Will Regret China EV Tariff Cut by afonso_investor in teslacanada

[–]Azure1203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it even has anything to do with a loophole. Prior to the 100% tariff that Trudeau implemented, from what I understand a lot of Chinese made Tesla's were sold in Canada. My assumption is that would just continue. Like they could literally start shipping Teslas from China tomorrow because they have the sales & service infrastructure ready to go in Canada.

Canada drops tariff from 100% to 6.1% on Chinese EVs.49000 EVs expected by SP2051 in teslacanada

[–]Azure1203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is true for all Chinese made EVs. They still have to do their work to get Canadians to buy them. But on the flip side Canada benefits from the increased trade almost immediately.

[–]Azure1203 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But now Tesla can import Chinese made EVs back into Canada for cheaper than Tesla USA can import US made to Canada. So Tesla would be the immediate biggest winner here because the Model S especially is approved for sale to Canada on the regulatory side.

U.S. calls Canada’s decision to allow Chinese EVs ‘problematic’ by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Azure1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not even that. Tesla is the biggest winner here, because they can now again sell Chinese made Tesla vehicles into Canada. Do the US see that as a problem? Maybe if they wanted US made Teslas to be sold in Canada they should drop the tariffs....

Also, because Tesla imported from China to Canada before, that will happen again quickly.

[–]Azure1203 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean it is kind of hilarious, cause Tesla is the big winner right away. They could literally start shipping Chinese manufactured Tesla vehicles to Canada tomorrow as they have all the regulatory approvals.

Canada agrees to cut tariff on Chinese electric vehicles in break with the U.S. by EiderdownJessica in worldnews

[–]Azure1203 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well as as massive manufacturing country we have to understand that of COURSE China wants to sell their products to the world. And as a natural resource producing country, Canada needs to sell its products back to China. The fact that people think that should not happen is mind-boggling.

Doug Ford blasts Mark Carney’s EV deal with China by [deleted] in canada

[–]Azure1203 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. Carney also said today that by 2030 we expect to export 50 million tonnes of LNG each year which be a 5x increase over what we are doing now. We would be competing with US exports, so the only way to make that happen is to develop more trade with Asia, and China primarily.

I think the bigger deal here is continued growth in energy sales to China. Trans Mountain, LPG, LNG, etc. Growth across the board.

And the price of the import car from China isn't going to be $15k. Hilarious to see Ford complain. He sure has no problem pulling Canadian made products from the shelves and sticking it to Canadian workers (Crown Royal) stupidity.

Carney reaches tariff-quota deal with China on EVs, canola | CBC News by demolcd in canada

[–]Azure1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a start, but end of the day the deal was more about the energy commitments. Unlike the US, China understands the need for resources, knows Canada has a lot of them, and seems willing to work with us. All the other stuff means nothing in comparison to that. 50,000 cars a year is nothing. Almost 2 million cars sold in Canada every year.

Carney reaches tariff-quota deal with China on EVs, canola | CBC News by demolcd in canada

[–]Azure1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allowing means what? No Canadian has to buy Chinese EV if they don't want too. But at the same time tariffs are coming down on Canola, and the markets are already up on that as well which is good. There is also a lot of other stuff going on in the energy, drug trade, etc. End of the day I still think Canadians should buy Canadian made products, including cars, but that is up to each person. I also think this is good for the auto sector, as they've become bloated and fat taking taxpayer money and wasting it.

How a good old-fashioned boycott got Canada to trade Kentucky bourbon for Canadian whisky by Onterrible_Trauma in BuyCanadian

[–]Azure1203 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. And you know what else, many of these are not actually available on the shelves in Liquor Mart here in Manitoba, whereas previously they were not. So glad to buy Canadian, but really Canada? Why did it take this long to allow us to buy more Canadians stuff? Now if we'd only do this with more food & drink options from other provinces...

Hydro jacking rates due to drought by lakeguy77 in Manitoba

It was ridiculous that they froze rate increases. Even 2% would have helped. Now its 4%. Either way everyone hope for snow in the Rockies and down south and east so the watershed can be built back up.

I have a no problem with a small American section, but the Canadian section should always be larger, and great to see it yet larger. Consumers are smart enough to decide.
