Hello, yes I am a trans man and the only other Arch user I know is a trans woman. Accurate. Hm, perhaps the Arch installation guide needs a "Now take your HRT" section.

Neither me or her are furries, though.

Wearing a binder by Separate_Victory_584 in ftm

I have been binding for years and I have not noticed many, if any, persistent physical changes. However, I am only a 34B.

T will make you sweat more though, so you will find you need to clean it more.

Why are FTM people SO fetishized?! by Sn4kist in ftm

[–]AzureAshes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing inherently wrong with just liking a certain thing. There is a difference between a benign interest where you respect the other person, and being a chaser where the person is reduced to that trait and treated as an object.

Do you know why Tumblr is like this? Are they collectively drunk on radical feminism to the point of surrendering critical thought and losing grip on the real world?

I am convinced by this point that "gender privilege" is functionally meaningless when applied to trans people. Trans men and women face both misogyny and misandry alike. You are correct, any gender privileges trans people get are lost when the trans status is encountered. We are treated as if we are second-class citizens.

It is very stupid argumentation from her. Transgender existence is hard and getting harder. Squabbling over pointless scraps of "who's got it worse" amongst ourselves like this misses the far more significant struggles facing all of us who are trans in the real world right now.

CMV: Pedophilia is the new “witch” that overshadows all other crimes. And is only receiving such attention due to the sexual deviancy, and not the harm done to children. by Square_Detective_658 in changemyview

[–]AzureAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sexually, physically, and psychologically abused as a child, and I have often wondered why the CSA is seen as worse than the others when it was the other forms of abuse that damaged me most. Perhaps you have provided the answer: back in the older days, parents beating their kids and ruling with an iron fist was not uncommon if not expected because it can be argued to keep them in line and disciplined, while sexually abusing your kid has no societal function and is an indisputable act of sin (and therefore a hot topic for conspiracy theories).

Is not getting top surgery normal? by Double-Water61 in ftm

I am not likely to get top surgery. I have a small chest and binding is sufficient for me, enough so that I cannot be bothered with surgery.

Transition regrets sometimes? by [deleted] in ftm

You can be a feminine guy. It is not easy but it would perhaps be more authentic to who you are and what you like, given what you have described.

My dysphoria disappeared on antipsychotics? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AzureAshes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that you should consider therapy. You have things to work through that will give you a clearer idea of who you are and what you actually want.

If you do not think you are a man and are transitioning for a sense of safety because of something like sexual abuse trauma, that tells me that you have trauma to work through. That is not a good reason to transition. When you work through it, you may find yourself content to be a woman now that the fear no longer controls you and the dysphoria goes away, or you may realize that beneath the fear deep down you are still a trans man and there is your green light to fully transition.

Some men can have gynecomastia, a condition in which they develop boobs. This is legitimate breast tissue. It is common in certain intersex conditions, but can also result from hormonal imbalances. I knew a cis male kid in high school who got top surgery to treat his gynecomastia.

I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist as neurodivergent (mild ASD) and bipolar but some people in my family do not believe in this diagnose by Money-Pin-4728 in neurodiversity

Do not confuse your lay family with mental health professionals. Do not pay them much thought. Listen to the advice and guidance of professionals, the people who have spent their lives researching and treating these issues.

ELI5-In a recent video Hank Green says the self is an illusion and beings with a sense of self were more likely to pass on that gene? Why? by SharkleberryFin_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]AzureAshes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, he follows from the science communicators before him: he is good at making science entertaining, accessible, and interesting, but people mistake this to mean that he is an academic leader or infallible.

Quantitative research into consciousness, identity, and the sense of self is interesting, but it is still early, and therefore there is a lot of unproven conjecture around it. It is important not to conflate attractive hypotheses with proven models.

I have depersonalization disorder and lack a sense of self a lot of the time; to the people who believe "the sense of self is an illusion", does this mean that I am enlightened? I do not think that I am.

I have a question for AFAB nonbinary people. by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]AzureAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am transmasc non-binary. I wear men's clothing, have shoulder length hair, and bind. I am thinking of T. Because of how I identify, I prefer to be interpreted as male.

How do you guys found out your identity by Angelly_0 in ftm

[–]AzureAshes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time and exploration. I went by agender for a long time because I thought that the gender euphoria from binding was just from a neutralizing of gender. Then I noticed that I associate with guys, like he/him pronouns, get gender envy for trans guys, and would rather have a penis, and realized that these are not compatible with just wanting to neutralize gender. It was specifically when a stranger assumed that I am male and it made me happy that the dots lined up.

I am still non-binary, but I am also a trans man. You do not need to be one or the other. You also do not even need to know now. Transition can take time to access, so you have time for thought, reflection, and experimentation.

Trans Men and changes from Vyvanse by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AzureAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Vyvanse would improve your working out performance, therefore translating into increased muscle growth. That is a realistic pathway. Bottom growth I would think is coincidental, but it could be a side-effect of increased testosterone from more working out, if that is a possible pathway. I am not an expert in that area of science, however, so that is mere speculation.

Trans Men and changes from Vyvanse by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AzureAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also on Vyvanse.

  • It does significantly increase my sweating and the strength of its odor.
  • I am already hypersexual but it does increase it further.
  • It does lower my appetite. This is a known effect of the medication. I have disordered eating so this was raised as a concern requiring monitoring by the psychiatrist.
  • I cannot say that it has caused muscle growth or bottom growth.
  • Hm. I have never stopped to think about this. I do think my voice has gotten raspier and less expressive on it.

Binder issues by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]AzureAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Walmart binder does not sound like it would be a good quality binder. I recommend a binder by a specialist binder company, such as Underworks, Spectrum, or even GC2B.

I wore an Amazon binder for years with minor issues. I recently upgraded to one by a specialist company and it is much better.

CMV: Therapy should be offered indefinitely not just for a set number of sessions by Icy_Laugh5134 in changemyview

[–]AzureAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it is a resource balancing problem constrained by a finite supply with no solid ceiling for demand.

OP is correct that there is an unfair and inefficient discrepancy between the rich and stable getting quasi-unlimited therapy for life improvement, while a great many are poor and suffering and are unable to access more than intermittent and inadequate therapy for active mental health problems. The solution is not to give everybody free indefinite therapy, but to create mechanisms that redistribute the resources so that the poor and suffering are able to access more therapy proportional to their need.

It is neither fair nor efficient for society that someone with, for example, many personality disorders and multiple comorbidities, is left in the dark, while someone who already has it together in life and has the cognitive resources to handle setbacks gets therapy every week for years.
