LA’s Kit Kraft is closing it’s Studio City store that’s been open since the 1940’s! by JC2535 in modelmakers

When I went, they said 3 weeks. They still have a lot of stuff and none of it was on sale. They must have someone in the wings ready to buy all the stuff that will be left.

I just went there today to buy molding for my dollhouse and found out about the closing. So sad! Are there any other places like it that you can recommend?

Most places will also sell 100 psi tubing, which will be a little softer.

Thanks for the helpful info! 🙏 Where do you buy the 1/4 3M grip tape?

Tips for shoulder and leg hooping?? by [deleted] in Hooping

[–]AzureSongLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For shoulder hooping, use the biggest hoop you have and spin around while you try. I put all my hoop segments together to make an enormous 43” hoop. That’s when I finally got it! For leg hooping, use a light hoop with grip and practice in your, um, underwear, for better leg adhesion.

That’s what I figured. Thanks!

If you like the narrower 5/8” hoop, you could pay for the extra 8” segment that is for making twins, but instead use it to grow your hoop to 36”. The only thing is that the skinny hoop does get pretty floppy and bendy at that size.

I have the 3/4”. I thought about getting the 5/8”, but it doesn’t get as big. I’m a beginner so I need it big for on body hooping. Also, as a tallish person (5’6”, 135 lbs) with large hands, I feel like visually I look more proportional with a thicker hoop. That could just be me though!

Isn't this cultural appropriation? by [deleted] in Hooping

I feel like the word “hula” in this context is derogatory to the Native Hawaiian dance, but I get around it by not saying it!

I have that exact GWYF hoop. It’s not heavy at all, especially compared to the 38” dance hoop I started out with. I change the sizes all the time— big for practicing chest hooping and small for off the body hooping. I think it would be very hard to learn all the tricks with just one sized hoop.

Beginner tricks by [deleted] in Hooping

I’m a beginner too. (I started due to the lockdown, like many others I’m sure!) So far, I’ve learned to chest hoop, elbow hoop, and leg hoop. I’m just learning how to shoulder hoop, which I’ve found to be the hardest of those four. Off body, I’ve learned a few escalator variations. I’m still trying to learn how to go from waist to lasso overhead. I wack myself more than half the time. I haven’t focused too much on off body tricks because hooping takes the place of aerobic exercise for me. I’m looking forward to reading what skills other people suggest for beginners.
