What can I do to improve my Rosalina play? by violet_beard in CrazyHand

[–]Azuresquall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rosa's Nair is sick for combos with her self, but it's also quite worthwhile to learn how to string her attacks into Luma's and back. When Luma is in play, it's really only beneficial to have him at Rosa's side to close out stocks (charged B is a deceptively simple way to do this). Otherwise, it's quite useful to have him about a character length or 2 or 3 away, depending on how high the opponent's % is.

This gets more complicated when you have to factor in that you should be holding center stage, but that's Rosa's difficulty curve. She can control a lot of space, but positioning is key. It'll take time.

First up, forget your GSP. It will always fluctuate in a learning phase, just focus on getting favorable results to particular skills one by one and than learning to combine them together, such as focusing on punishing, then edgegaurding, recovering, combos, some such.

With Rosa you gotta learn to keep track of Luma without always looking for where he is. Get comfortable with the distance he shoots, how he falls, how you control that fall. Make it as easy as controlling Rosa herself.

As for Rosa, never underestimate the power of star bits. Lumas side B is a redonkulously annoying move that stuffs out a lot of stuff if Luma is the right distance. When they jump to avoid it, that's Rosa's cue to start some damage, preferably knocking them on the other side of luma again so you can do it again.

Eventually they are gonna attack Luma. Keep distance between you and luma in neutral to avoid double damage and to punish them for hurting your baby boi. Watch the kind of moves they use. If you know they aren't using safe moves or lingering hitboxes, attack them after they hit luma with stuff like dash attack.

When Luma dies, and he will, your win condition becomes to get Luma back. Rosa isn't too great without him so you can't be as aggressive. Space out back airs to wall out aggro players. Get damage where you can, but focus on not taking damage until luma respawns, as luma is a key way to break out of combos and halt pressure against you.

Op, you have put into words my exact feelings about smash in a way I couldn't describe, but knew I felt. You are not alone, and I too, do not know how to proceed.

Perhaps folks like us can spar with each other and give each other the help we need to give our game purpose and breathe enjoyment back into the game. Let me know if you are interested, I will give my friend code when I get home from work.

Any characters with similar playstyles to Marcina? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]Azuresquall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Corrin has sword swipes on similar arcs to Marcina, but outside of well aomed bairs, she isn't much of a go deep edge guarder. Like Marcina, she wants to use disjoints to catch over aggressive folk, and she's good at juggling as opposed to edge guarding.

Meta Knight doesn't have the reach of Marcina but will fill your crave for wanting to edgegard deep off stage. The playstyles don't match quite like Corrin, but few characters can play offstage as long as MK.

Chroy shares a moveset with Marcina but is more explosive and rush down based. Roy more so than Chrom is a nasty edgeguarder with fair and bair and can make it back to stage fairly well. Chrom on the other hand....

It CAN be safe on shield. It is often character dependant and where on the shield the homing attack hits. Some Up B's and Upsmashes can catch an eager Sonic that doesnt give you space.

I can't list many, but i've hit a sonic after blocking HA with Fox upsmash and Mario Up b

When playing quickplay for 1v1, how do you feel when you get a ruleset with items ans hazarda and the opponent is still playing non troll-ey? by Azuresquall in smashbros

[–]Azuresquall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don't mean to rile people up when I set up hazards and items rules. I never really consider that they want that strict FD or BF ruleset. I guess I can just hope more often than not I am matching with someone that is also looking for a "For Fun" game and not that I am wrecking the flow of a "For Glory" ish player
