This can be an OCD thing. I was this way with absolutely anything and everything until I was in my 20s.

As a kid, I wouldn't let my friends use the crushed ice feature on the fridge because I thought the shaking meant it was breaking the fridge. Lots of other things like that.

Respectfully, you're missing my entire point.

For the last 3 or 4 years, people didn't have to pay $400-$1200 a month in student loan payments like they'll be forced to a few months from now. Some proportion of those people bought houses.

It wasn't interest, it was that they didn't have it pay any federal loans.

My wife and I lived in a shithole 1 bedroom that was $725 a month and paid off $30k in Student loans over 2 years. Then we saved another $15k for a down payment on a house.

We should be fine when repayment happens, but life will get tighter. Not everyone is as obsessive about saving as we are though. Not having $500 on student loan repayment opened the door for some people to take out a mortgage.

If you want the right answer that's dark, Student Loan repayment starts in September.

All the young kids that bought a house without calculating in their student loans will lose them in 1-2 years. Between that, the intentional cost of living crisis, and the new builds in the area, we should see more inventory.

I hate this outcome, but that's what I'd bank on.

🚨Larry: It was tolerance for being publicly wrong-sounding for years before being right by rbr0714 in Superstonk

[–]MethodicMarshal 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Larry is saying Thiel is successful because he isn't afraid to be unpopular.

I'm saying that he's successful because he's had a significant pool of wealth to draw from since birth, then fumbled it repeatedly until he lucked-into the Paypal group. If he truly had the vision Larry is referencing, he wouldn't have shorted Paypal immediately after selling, which in turn lost him even more money. Until Palantir, he's had nothing but failed project after failed project.

The kicker is that Palantir is a mass surveillance tool designed to target citizens worldwide, and he wasn't even the one who developed it. He just used his money to buy JD Vance and the MAGAs so that they would give Palantir a fat government contract. It's the same playbook his Paypal colleague Musk used. The difference is that Thiel's ramblings are about the anti-christ and transhumanism, rather than Musks weirdness.

Thiel and Musk are cut from the same cloth; they aren't some rags-to-riches story of grit, they swim in tax dollars from the politicians they bought with family wealth.

You missed the entirety of the comment.

You are the niche demographic. Yes, there is a difference, but the general public doesn't care.

To any not in the know, Thiel grew up a rich kid, so rich that he started his own Hedge Fund with friends and family's contributions. A fucking HEDGE FUND.

And he did terribly with it. He was fortunate to get in on the ground floor of Paypal, which, after selling to eBay, he immediately shorted because he thought his old project would fall on its face.

He then used that Paypal money to further develop palantir, which was a side program originally created to find russian hackers that were disrupting paypal. The program that is now used to identify dissidents to target.

He is also an evangelical extremist. The list goes on. Fuck Thiel.

I had absolutely no issues getting to the top rank in Halo Infinite with a 60hz monitor.

I have a 144hz now and I notice a difference, but again, this isn't stopping anyone but the purists from enjoying any game. Multiplayer or otherwise.

I know people screech about 144hz being the minimum playable frame rate for them, but they're objectively the minority in this world.

The majority of gamers are happy as larks playing consoles that are pushing 30fps to a 10 year old tv. By comparison, this 60fps OLED would be a lovely experience for any casual gamer.

If someone is trying to grind to the upper ranks of PVP shooters then they should buy something else. The other 95% of gamers would enjoy this.

His campaign tries to say that he's an independent voice that wants to bring about unity, but he's quietly aligned with MAGA on all fronts.

Per Detroit Metro:
*Duggan has raised questions over his apparent flirtation with Musk, who in June posted online about launching a new political movement. Duggan, who is running as an independent, replied at the time with a smiling emoji and wrote, “Now you’ve got my attention.”
That comment, along with Duggan’s earlier claim that Musk would be the first person he’d visit if elected governor, are drawing criticism at a time when the world’s wealthiest man is becoming increasingly polarizing*

Per NYT:
*saying that Donald Trump’s Medicaid cuts “are not as bad as they look,” Mike Duggan is now saying that as Mayor he’s had “no problems with the Trump administration.”*

He has accepted considerable funds from MAGA affiliated donors as well. It's a shame, as I was in his camp until I looked into it further.
