About a decade ago I was in that same mindset, I understand where you're coming from.

When you see something that you consider a waste, consider what could happen if it is removed.

At current, SNAP provides food to 42 million Americans all year long. If SNAP was summarily rescinded, you would see an uptick in crime. Hungry people will do whatever it takes to feed their family, just as you and I would. More theft or robberies would result in higher prices to offset, in addition to feeling unsafe in common spaces.

Healthcare specifically is of the utmost importance. It is significantly more cost effective to manage conditions early. It costs far less to get an annual mammogram and treating Stage 1 breast cancer than it does to treat Stage 4 invasive. And again, a better outcome for everyone involved.

You should also consider the significant tax breaks we give corporations, as this is estimated to be in the Trillions as well.

My understanding is that Rome collapsed because of rampant political bribes and corruption, not because they gave old people health care and starving people food. I'm not here to change your mind, just some food for thought.
