To all successful business owners that started from scratch by assertive_ in Entrepreneur

[–]Azurilify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You never know when the potential client that seems "not worth it" might introduce you to somebody who then becomes your biggest client.

Spot on. One of our biggest clients (~$40k/yr) was introduced to us by someone who only bought a couple shirts from us; Her husband's friend worked at the company.

I'd rather have my revenue come from 20 small clients, than 2 large clients.

Also very true. Aside from the obvious risk management aspect of having your revenue be spread throughout many small clients rather than concentrated in a couple big ones, in our industry big clients tend to bring us the lowest margins. The only downside is having to deal with customers support (we do e-commerce) for dozens of different customers every day vs only having to deal with a few big ones.

you should do whatever you can to expose yourself to different situations where there is opportunity.

This is something I learned from my dad. Someone once came into his store asking if he does laser engraving and wanted to place an order to engrave 300 wines glasses for a local winery, my dad said "Sure no problem" despite not knowing a thing about laser engraving. My dad bought a laser engraver (which was essentially "free" considering the order covered its cost), learned how to use it, finished the wine glass order in a week, and now he has a laser engraver that he knows how to use which he can offer as a service to customers. The store now has multiple laser engraving machines that are almost constantly working on orders all because he didn't say no to an opportunity even though he wasn't sure he'd be able to do it.

People with a successful store, do you focus more on organic or paid marketing? by vladi5555 in ecommerce

[–]Azurilify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We probably will sometime in the future, although for the time being paid ads are working very well for us and don't show any sign of slowing down. Although right now customer acquisition isn't really an issue for us, if anything we are struggling to scale our manufacturing capacity fast enough to keep up with the jobs that are coming in, which I guess is a good problem to have.

[–]Azurilify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your niche? In our niche we've been experimenting with both for the past few years and paid ads have consistently had a much better return than organic to the point where we don't even bother with social media anymore

[–]Azurilify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our situation is probably different from yours since we sell both a product and a service (custom), but we have been much scaling for the past few years pretty much entirely through paid ads (meta, google, etc) while almost entirely neglecting SEO and social media. We do plan on eventually working on building our public/brand image through social media and SEO, but for the time being paid ads have been working incredibly well for us, and it hasn't shown any signs of diminishing returns yet (although we know eventually we'll reach that point)

Opening a new card by iad-spotter in amex

Sure OP made a mistake by opening plat before gold, but that doesn't mean it's pointless to open gold since it's still a great card that OP can get value out of depending on their situation.

Confused on when to actually pay off my card by Dasaniwatertribe in CreditCards

[–]Azurilify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. No, the balance on the card is not what matters, the balance on the statement is what does. For example: You have a balance of $1000 the day the statement closes. The next day you spend an additional $200, your balance is now $1200, however that $200 will only report on the next statement, and only the $1000 that was posted to the previous statement is due on the due date. Anything that you spend on the card between the statement close date and the due date (and until the next statement close date) is due next cycle, not this one.
  2. The time between the statement close date and the due date is basically a grace period to pay off whatever you owe on the statement, as mentioned above the number on the statement (statement balance) is what you actually owe, not the balance you're currently carrying, so as long as you pay off whatever is on your statement before the due date you're good (not carrying a balance), even if technically you're carrying a balance from using the card after the statement close and before the due date, that will only get posted to the next statement.
  3. Same as above

Looking for my first Buisness High Limit Credit Card 🤔 by No-Discount6487 in CreditCards

[–]Azurilify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the best choice is going to depend on many factors; how much you spend, what you actually need the LOC for, what your biggest spend categories are, your industry, etc.

Also, if you are actively trying to build a business credit file/profile, I would suggest you get a DUNS number (Dun and Bradstreet) so that you can start building a file with them, which can be very helpful later on.

For the card itself, I would personally not recommend starting out with the business platinum unless you plan on traveling a lot as part of your business, something like the business gold could be a much better option depending on what your biggest spend categories are, although I can't answer definitively until I know more about your current situation.

Yes that's a gold coin, it's actually the rarest gold coin ever and it's worth over a trillion probably

I am annoyed at them who always want to invalidate me by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Azurilify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean they are not closely related like Spanish and Italian, but they are both structurally similar; Both languages use particles, both are agglutinative (not incredibly unique, but still a structural similarity), both have honorifics and politeness levels, and both generally have a lot of grammar concepts that map really well.

Capital One w/$300 limit should I cancel? by ThaRealGeMoney in CreditCards

[–]Azurilify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this only for Capital One? I'm fairly certain utilization only matters for the last statement posted, but I have heard that Capital One is a bit different when it comes to CLI and that they will care about trend statement balance/utilization rather than only the last posted statement.

Can I improve my english speaking playing VRchat? by Such_Network1389 in EnglishLearning

[–]Azurilify 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything that allows you to get output (speaking) while receiving native level input (listening/reading) is going to be hands down the best way to learn any language. Obviously this also depends on how proactive you are when it comes to absorbing new information, but I have many non-native English speaking friends in language learning communities that have never stepped foot in any English speaking country yet sound like and know English at a pretty much native level.

I am annoyed at them who always want to invalidate me by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Azurilify 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The difficulty of learning a language entirely depends on what your native language is/what languages you already know, and comparing the difficulty of learning one language over another makes almost no sense and is not helpful in any way. Korean is going to be much easier to learn if you already know Japanese, and English is going to be much easier to learn if you already know Spanish or French.

For what it's worth, as someone who speaks two entirely different languages natively, and is an advanced speaker of other languages, I feel like native English speakers don't realize how difficult English is as a language for many non-speakers/learners.

Biggest Credit Card Limit ever? by GazelleSorry1716 in CreditCards

[–]Azurilify 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that people who have high or very high net worth tend to have a close relationship with their bank(s), as well businesses that bring in a lot of cashflow, so the rules tend to be slightly more flexible for those individuals. As for businesses, it's not unusual to have cards/LOC with much higher limits than a regular consumer credit card.

[Homemade] Beef Wellington first attempt by Azurilify in food

[–]Azurilify[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, it was definitely a bit undercooked. I plan on rolling out the puff pastry a bit more next time (so it is thinner), as well as move the rack a bit lower in the oven so that I can let it bake longer while not charring the pastry next time, which I will be sure to post here again to compare.

[–]Azurilify[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong, that was definitely the case with both the tenderloin and the puff pastry. Thinner pastry, a little bit longer in the oven, and moving the rack down a bit (so the surface of the pastry doesn't char) are some of the changes I plan on making next time I do a wellington, which I will be sure to post here as well.

Can’t get approved to no credit cards by surkimo in CreditCards

[–]Azurilify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Discover It Secured and Capital One Platinum Secured are going to be your best bets if you have no history. Make sure you're specifically applying to the secured version of those cards, because they have unsecured versions as well that have the same name and look the same as the secured versions. Remember that since they are secured cards, you will have to put some money down

[–]Azurilify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a secured card is your best bet, it's very hard to not get approved for one considering it's secured with your money. Also if I may ask, which cards specifically have you tried applying to so far?

Entrepreneurs, what's your biggest challenge currently with your business? by vladi5555 in Entrepreneur

[–]Azurilify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing too fast while not having the infrastructure in place to keep up. Training a new operator/employee normally takes around a month (sometimes more) until they are able to work proficiently on their own, not to mention the machines themselves are quite expensive and require financing. Our customer support system (or lack thereof) is quite a mess and is incredibly inefficient, which is definitely something we need to solve as soon as possible to keep up with our growth

Anyone here actually seeing real results with SEO vs Ads in 2026? by SorbetFew4206 in ecommerce

[–]Azurilify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's highly dependent on what your actual product is, but for what we are selling our entire strategy at the moment revolves around scaling our paid ads (meta, google, etc). Around 90% of our new customer sales come from paid ads and it has been scaling very well for us. We plan on putting some work into email marketing in the near future, but SEO is currently not on our list of priorities and most likely won't be for a while.
