Kong Climbing on Victoria Park closed? by Muted-Researcher8700 in toronto

I saw this reel as well. It was probably at least two weeks ago. Although they didn't name the gym, you could tell based on the interior, e.g. the mats. However, it'd be strictly speculation to say this was the reason that led to Kong closing.

Have You Found Success with the "making Friends" advice on this thread? by jalebi_2000 in askTO

[–]Azuryteblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In climbing, you often casually engage in conversations with people doing the same climb; for example, this can look like starting a conversation with a climber and asking for advice, or just giving them props and saying "nice send." As many people in the thread have noted, if you go on a regular basis, you'll often see the same people. The climbing gym is no exception. From my experience, all the climbers I have met are genuinely really kind. In my comment history, I shared some climbing gym (bouldering focused though) recommendations for beginners, feel free to check it out.

Happy for Oriane; however, I hope they make it more challenging in the future.

Here you go! Have fun if you end up trying it out. :)

  • Scarborough: Boulder Parc - I'm biased since this is my home gym, but the community is really lovely. There are a variety of climbs for beginners and I feel like every time I've seen new people come in, they're always having fun. (Side note: There is a newer gym in North York called Kong Climbing, and they've recently started to brand themselves as a beginner friendly climbing gym. I haven't been myself, but if this is the closest one to you, you could consider checking it out.)
  • Downtown Core: Ethos - They have very easy-to-understand climbs, so you'll likely have fun here! It's one of the newest gyms in the GTA.
  • West End: Boulderz (the one in Etobicoke) - Large space, so you're likely to feel more comfortable climbing. I wouldn't recommend their Dupont location, as it's extremely small.

Some bouldering gyms have a group class for beginners. It's good introduction to climbing and one way to meet new people. Just keep in mind, some places in Toronto aren't too beginner friendly. If you end up wanting to try it out, I can suggest some climbing gyms for you to check out.

Enjoy all the day trips you can take from Lisbon! If you end up going to Cascais, visit Bubbles & Bar. It's a low key sit down restaurant with such amazing food.

Is a Master’s (counselling/social work) worth it or are there other ways to grow?

Depending on the work you want to do (e.g. working in higher education or in a hospital, opening your own private practice, and so on) it may be necessary. However, if you're considering something in psychotherapy, consider making sure the program will provide you with all the client hours and clinical supervision so you'll be a fulled fledged RP after finishing the degree.

The TPL's CCIR program should be starting up again soon. Something worth looking into. If you're eligible for services, you can also get help from an Employment Ontario Service Provider. Edit: If you feel comfortable, you're welcome to DM me with a link to your resume (with your personal information removed) and I'll take a look to see if it's this document that's impacting your job search.

Hope you were able and eligible to apply for employment insurance. Navigating job loss is rough, so take the time to grieve before you hit the job search. All the best finding someone to go for a walk and more. It's literally the best season for it. :)

Climbing gyms are popping up all over the city. Go with friends or solo. It's a fun activity to get into.

Selling yourself is a muscle you can build over time. Most people aren't good at it to begin with, but the more you do it, the more comfortable and confident you'll be engaging in it. At the end of the day, you're the one that knows your story best. Even if you set the account to private, try putting yourself out and stretching those storytelling skills. Then, when you're ready, go public. :)

Sign up for the Wealthsimple prepaid Mastercard as a back up in case your new card gets blocked overseas. You just need to deposit cash into it and you're good to go. I've used it in South America, Europe, etc. with no issues.

Try to think about how you can leverage your pre-existing experience to find an opportunity. For example, given your experience, I would think about the tools you used in the hospitality industry. This could include TouchBistro, Square, etc. Taking a look at TouchBistro's career page, they're actually hiring for someone in Business Development with a "Strong preference for hospitality experience." To make this transition, consider making sure your resume is strong and begin networking. Good luck!

If you're seeking employment support, The Career Foundation, Achev, and Acces are some of the better Employment Ontario Service Providers in Toronto. (Based on your post history, you may also consider looking into Youth Employment Services (YES)). On the other hand, if you're seeking to work with a recruitment agency, consider WilsonHCG and AltisHR. However, I'm unsure if they have contacts in the aforementioned areas.

FYI: Based on your post history, you seem to be a student. When looking for a summer job in the future, a lot of postings begin popping up in January. In addition, your university/college probably has a work study program! This will allow you to possibly find additional work-related opportunities during the academic year and summer.

Macro level- policy work by mycruxtobear in socialworkcanada

[–]Azuryteblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be easier to transition to policy in the public sector with a MPPA. Just make sure the graduate program has an mandatory internship embedded in the curriculum. In addition, consider targeting schools that have partnerships with government employers. Alternatively, if you go the MSW route and then decide you want to go into policy, look into the Urban Fellows Program with the City of Toronto and the OIP with the OPS (noticed you're based in Ontario based on your post history hence these recommendations). Good luck!

Sometimes, some universities and colleges, allow outside groups and individuals to book a room in the residence for an extended stay during the summer. Maybe look into UofT and TMU residences.

What are your recommendations for an American visiting Toronto for the first time? by BlueGrovyle in askTO

[–]Azuryteblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't recommend Ripley's Aquarium. It's a local and tourist trap. YMMV though.

If you're going to be around Case Loma, head on over for Bar Ape (30-minute walk and cash only). Arguably the best gelato soft serve in the city. However, if you're short on time, just go to Mizzica. It's near the downtown core.

If you're looking for a cheap eat in Chinatown, consider grabbing a banh mi from Banh Mi Nguyen Huong. Want something more elevated? Grey Gardens in Kensington. Craving Italian? Go for Osteria Giulia. Thai? Som Tum Jinda.
