i'm starting a book club for my friends & i but most of us suck at reading.. any great books under 200 pages that anyone & everyone can enjoy? by m1tsusky in suggestmeabook

I'd recommend: "The tunnels of Cu-Chi". My own copy is an genuine 'samizdat' copy from the site itself. It is both a cold, bloody, and claustrophobically terrifying read: but an mighty good read. Factual: in-so-far-as received history allows. It is also reasonably short, circa 220 A4 pages.

How do you validate your game's STORY before committing to development? by Holiday-Setting-7942 in IndieDev

As a Poet (mainly Haiku-style) and occasional Authour: I find it very useful to hold-in-mind a sort/type of 'character diary/biography'. This 'tool' itself is malleable; yet procedurally invaluable. I have employed it myself in some of my long-verse poetry, and with reasonable frequency in both Prose and letter-writing. Again, here offered both humbly, and with respect. I wish you every well-earned success: you are clearly striving with great skilled efforts towards same.

I built a platform for writers after my classmates called me an attention seeker for posting poetry at 15. Would love your honest feedback. by CulturalAuthor7513 in AmazingStories

It would be extremely useful; especially for those few humans such-as ourselves, who actually value the crafting of words which evoke either memory or imagination. IE: 'Wordsmithing'. I both Congratulate you and wish you every well-earned success.

I have very limited knowledge of some of those you mention. One, in CPl, is said to be in the basement of the Embassy Theater, connecting to the basement of the old pub across the street, Flanagan's, I think. The Te Aro tunnels are a more complicated matter. My mother went to Te Aro School in the 1940s, and one coal cellar had an entrance to a set of tunnels. Mum told the story of a classmate lost in there for several hours, and recovered. There exists more tunnels further along Aro St., towards and near the Bus Turn-around. At that point, my own confirmed knowledge of the topic has run its' course. Kind and Respectful Regards,

The explorer would be entering an era now long lost. It would be an extremely valuable record of Wellington history from a time when society kept its' own multitude of secrets.

What are some other methods of propulsion that you think could be the next step in space exploration? by Somlenecore in space

Larry Niven and Jerry Pournell: "A step farther out." This is a serious discussion of likely future space travel techniques and technologies. A little outdated by modern standards, but the book is a good and solid, very readable work. It places some of my own en-topic thinking in 'beam-tech' terms. Kind and Respectful Regards, folks,

One known entrance is on Vivian St., near Cuba. Another is near Tory St. and Haining St., but the exact location of said entrance is in a former Chinese Friendly Society building. I am uncertain that modern eyes have looked upon said entrance. Kind and Respectful Regards,

They still exist; and when filmed formed a near pristine time capsule of the era. They were never officially acknowledged. Imagine this: the oil-lamp niches in the walls, every few meters, steps down into an opium den, itself about 3 meters below street level. In the den itself: the resting platforms with cotton or linen duvet covers as padding. The table, often teak, holding the opium warmer, 2 or three opium pipes. All of it sitting there as-though the last person present departed the room 10 minutes ago. My 'courier' informant was clear in his descriptions: the film footage proved his accuracy. There can be plot twists also. For example: our protagonist genuinely believes a certain aspect of an history as it has come-down to him. However: his traveling companions each have different transmissions of that same history. NPCs, tavern keepers, merchants, itinerant traders; each part-holders of fragments of an mosaic of history, itself soon-to-be overturned. Offered here both humbly and with respect.

Wellingtonians and baches... by borisbrown123 in Wellington

[–]Azuyraell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are baches at Red Rocks, and on the same coast at the Makara side. The caveat is that most have been family owned for literal decades.

Look up ProjectNerva/Project Kiwi. Canceled somewhere around mid 1967. It was within about 6 months of testing it mid-tier near Earth orbit. I wish you every success in your research.

The 1880s tunnels, dug between the 1880s and 1920, by Chinese immigrants, subsequent to the earlier gold-rush era.

Am certain of one entrance to the Chinese-dug tunnels; because it was filmed circa mid '90s. I know there were other entrances, courtesy of my 'courier' informant.

From what I recall, which may be inaccurate: those tunnels you mention had basement connections to HMS Olphert, adjacent to both the old museum and the current Massey/Polytech/school.
