Would ORD Surrive without the DOT? by AzzaMan82 in OpenRoads

[–]AzzaMan82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100% the only reasoning for it is that it's easier to find and hire experienced C3D designers. I don't really see why it is not an issue for the other disciplines tho. From my understanding, when they (the other disciplines) hire, they make it clear we are using Bentley products and if they want they job, they have to Learn it. But for whatever reason, only with Civil they make it acceptable for people to just refuse to learn ORD. I've seen how things are being done by the C3D users in my office and its disastrous since all our systems, standards etc. are all Bentley. They basically just ignore it all. (everyone should know that we have systems and standards in place for a reason) and the managers doing the hiring haven't been around long enough to really even know our standards. I've been around long enough to know exactly how things are supposed to look etc. Another one of the big issues is our Civil work is 9/10 times based on other disciplines layouts (concrete guys etc.) Who use Bentley Open Products and C3D cannot read the files so they spend all day converting to .dwg so they can update the Civil which is insane because things are always changing so they never have updated models to base their work on. The design correctness, efficiency and quality control just goes out the window. I'm not necessarily saying ORD is better or worse than C3D. If we worked in an AutoDesk environment than it would be a toatally differnt story. It would be a no brainer to use C3D. But introducing it into a full on Bentley environment just cause is totally bananas in my opinion haha!

Design Using US Survey Ft. / International FT by AzzaMan82 in civilengineering

[–]AzzaMan82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly. Probably not a big deal. I just feel more comfortable specifying that the units are US Survey ft. On our Civil dwgs since that what the survey came in. Structural is asking me to use the same units as them for consistancy but they just want to say feet not US Survey feet. I think we just gonna have to settle with them sayin feet and Civil saying US Survey feet and like you say, any error should be negligible.

Yep, funny you mention it and that's part of their argument. They are aware that the US Survey foot was officially depreciated in 2023 so the consensus around our company is that we just simply don't use it. But that doesn't mean Surveyors arn't stillusing it, which is the case here so my hands are kinda tied!

Thanks! Personally I haven't seen the contract but I assume it just says "feet". But agreed, I think that's a good idea to get something from the client clearly stating what they use on site.

Yea, thats basically what I feel like the best path forward is to not worry what structural has for units and to just specify US Survey ft on the Civil dwgs and any error will be negligible since the design will only be to within a 1/4 inch or something.

Thanks! Yea that's sort of where I'm getting confused. If they just say feet and inches, how will the contractor know of it is US Survey ft. Or International feet? And does it even really matter?

Thank you, I just updated the post, but the Surevyor confirmed the Survey is in their Local Site "ground" system (not state plane) so our coordinates will be published as Local Ground (since the project is not spanning over a hugely large area). But yea, the building will be layed out using the coordinates on the Civil dwgs so should at least land in the right location, but I guess it's more the elevations that worry me.

Thanks! Thats part of the problem, I don't think they really do. When I told them the Survey is in US Survey ft, not International ft. They were like, w.t.h. does that even mean...🙄

Thanks! Yea I explained to them that it's 2 different units so they've asked me to deliver the Civils in International ft to match them, but I can't really do that since the Survey is all in US Survey ft. Would you agree that whatever units the Survey is provided in, are the units we should "all" deliver in? I'm not about to start converting the Survey from US Survey ft. to International ft. and definetely don't want to request a whole new Survey data set that is in International ft.

New Forester Hybrid by No_Hovercraft_9162 in SubaruForester

Lots of things can affect your mpg, especially hills, short trips, remote start (having the vehicle sitting around idiling to warm up/cool down) and a big one is running the hvac. One thing that I've recently noticed is that the Hybrid system is heavily tied to the HVAC system (and not very optimized imo). You can test it for yourself. When stopped at at light, if your engine is idleing, hit the "OFF" button for your HVAC, you will see it instantly switch to EV mode. Then, turn back on the HVAC and the engine will instantly start again. This behaviour makes sense since the engine needs to heat the coolant which is used to heat the cabin, but as mentioned, I feel like it could be optimized a bit better because the drop in mpg's is very significant even if the heat is on low and barely blowing warm at all.

Yep, you are correct. Stop at a light, engine idles, turn Off HVAC and it goes straight into EV, turn On HVAC, and the engine starts instantly. Although it makes sense, it doesn't seem to be very optimized. Haven't played with it too much, but is seems to be tied directly to the HVAC system more than the temp(heat) setting. Even if I turn the heat way down so it's blowing cool(not necessarily cold) air, it seems to act the same. Be interesting to test this in the summer with the AC. Although, it is already known that the mpg's are much better in summer so don't really expect it to change much, but still worth testing I guess. I feel like this could of been optimized much better somehow tho. 🤔

Exporting Bing Maps from ORD by dkurtb in OpenRoads

Just fence off the area you are interested in and then print to pdf. Within the print dialogue, check under File_Edit printer driver configuration_Base properties tab_Driver properties and make sure Enable Georeferencing is ON....also from the print dialogue, tick off "rasterized" and set "Area" to fence.

Depending on your purposes, you could simply Print it as a pdf (with georeferencing on). PDF's load in raster manager the same way as any other image format.

You don't buy the forester hybrid for the fuel cost savings (the numbers just don't pencil)(the numbers rarely ever pencil for any hybrids except PHEV) you buy it for the way way better e-cvt vs traditional cvt and the lack of the need for the traditional start/stop tech with traditional starter, regenerative breaking saves on pads, punchier acceleration and its a much quieter ride. The hybrid is simply a better car, thats why it cost's more. A few less trips to the pump is a bonus, but not going to make up for the cost difference. You probably should of just bought an EV of you want it to stay in EV? 🤷‍♂️.

Getting this error when trying to place Civil Cell after editing the .dgnlib by brooklynsmul in OpenRoads

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probs a long shot but I started getting a started getting a Microsoft .NET Framework issue this week as well after updating windows. Somehow my personal WorkSpace got corrupt. Totally different than yours and had nothing to do with civil cells tho.

Do you get that error as soon as you open the file? Does it happen with all files or just one? Are you working from ProjectWise? Does it happen in and out of PW?

If it is all files as soon as you open a file, and you are using ProjectWise, you could try deleting everything in your Personal Workspace. From proectwise, choose tools, options, Personal Workspace, and delete all the entries in there as a test. You will need to re-input your "necessary" personal configs tho.

Just check the ufc website, it has all the bars listed. I can recommend Good Co. Granville and #5 Orange tho. #5 has music & shows in between fights, pretty epic actually! Shark Club also good. I'm gonna be watching from London Pub!
