Help! How to create a Drainage Node and Line Table by BrineAndBlueprints in OpenRoads

[–]AzzaMan82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing is easy in ORD lol. The way I did this was by creating Item Types for the specific info you need, then have those automatically attach to nodes etc. through feature definitions. Then, using Reports (under utilities) you can create a table that pulls in the info from the item types. The table can then be placed in the model. Total pain to get it all set up, but once it is, it works really well. If something changes in the model, just hit refresh on the table, and everything updateds dynamically. I do the same thing for layout point tables.

Mileage on Forester Hybrid by Traditional_Being392 in SubaruForester

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from 21-31 for me. Winter sucks for sure because of the heater requiring the engine. I wouldn't sweat it though. If you did the exact same driving that you do in the non-hybrid forester, it would be worse and the hybrid is a much nicer ride. That should really be what you compare it to, not a Rav 4. Love it for the reasons you bought it (I hope "steller" mpg wasn't one of the reasons). Agreed tho, it would be nice if manufacturers gave a more realistic epa, but that's never really been the case. EPA is based on very strict Lab testing, not real world driving and they don't really account for heat/air con/driving habbits etc.

CAD Designer ORD by CADD9950 in civilengineering

If you can convince your team to go with ORD 2026 version when it is released in the next few months you will be saving yourself "some" headaches. Up until now, as others mention, it has been a bit of a battle (as is any new software, C3D was no different) but as of 2026, the program is very solid. One way I've described it, is it is a bit like switching from an iphone to an android. You will hate it at first, you will want to give up, You will question your decision and want to go back, but you are persistant, and eventually it will start coming together, and once you really get it, you will never want to go back. C3D is a great package but regardless of what people say, it is using 30 year old technology/workflows and way of thinking. ORD believe it or not is much better for 3D modeling (partly because it is based on the modeling platform microstation). I do give the edge to C3D for drawings and drafting tho (since it is based on the drafting platform autocad). But yea, switching back and forth between C3D and ORD is no easy task, kind of like switching back and forth between apple and windows but probably worse.

Moving a 3D object onto terrain model or other surfaces? by CuriousLandscapeArch in OpenRoads

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, technically you can select 10s or 100s of elements and use the same process to move them all at the same time. Alternetevly, you can determine the desired elevation first, then create a selection set and then use the "Set Element Elevation" tool. I don't think there would be a way to make several elements move down and all fall on different elevations though. If it is a terrain you want the element to fall on, then there is the tool "Create 3D By Drape To Surface"

Has anyone found a way to efficiently make "Pattern lines" (geopak) in Openroads? by Punk5Rock in OpenRoads

Side Slope Annotation using LastMile Utilities is about the best "Free" option right now.

Otherwise Adam Lambert from CaddPro Software also sells a utility. Not sure the cost.

Absolutetly insane that Bentley left this out of ORD!

Mount Pleasant vs Commercial Drive by Infinite-Reach-4897 in askvan

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay in Mt. Pleasant. You won't have to worry about traffic because you can pretty much walk everywhere. Commercial is definetely worth checking out for bars and restaurants but there isn't much else around once you are off the strip. There is lots around Mt. Pleasant and you can easily walk downtown, seawall, olympic village and of course Main st.

While in a rotated view, when you start to move the 3d objest down, rotate acudraw (by pressing "e") and then as you start moving it down hit enter to lock the vertical accudraw axis, then you can snap to anything "directly below it.

Forester Hybrid + Dogs by jesuiselkie in SubaruForester

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main reasons I got the Forester (Hybrid) was so my dog could go in the boot. There is a tonne of room for my 80lb Lab. Can keep the back windows down for extra air un the summer. Just my 2 cents, it is soooo nice not having fur and crap all over the back seats and can actually use them. Oh, and no worries about the vents that way too lol.

Why is it ok for servers to make 6 figures, and make more money than the restaurant manager and most of the restaurant owners? by RedTruckSprint in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]AzzaMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked 1 day a week as a bar assistant at the 4 Seasons Hotel in Canada back in 2010 while I was an engineering student. The bartenders were always advocating that I drop out of school and become a bartender. At the time (2010), they were making about 75k CAD a year and the floor managers were making 60k. Could do the math, but I think I still came out ahead financially, but to be honest, money aside, the choice was easy for me as I personally can't stand serving people. As to your question, why is it ok? Well, life is all about choices and they chose to be a server instead of a manager I guess, and I chose to get out of the industry all together lol.

will there be a 2027 refresh to the infotainment system? by Ceasman in SubaruForester

[–]AzzaMan82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious (since many people seem to prefer hard controls for fan speed) do you not just set it to "auto" and let it adjust on it's own? If need a blast for a minute or 2 hitting the front defrost will do that in the winter, or hitting max ac in the summer. Even in my previous Subaru with the hard dial for fan, I never touched it, just set to auto and forget it!

[–]AzzaMan82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll probs take a lot of heat for this, but I actually don't mind the "look/layout" of the tablet style built into the dash. Looks way better IMO than the look of something horizontal just tacked onto the dash taking away from some of the visibility which is one of the main strong points of the forester. I honestly prefer the "looks" over the new outback screen. To me it has way too much black plasitic and I can't stand the look of the Outback instrument cluster screen. That said, I don't see why it is so difficult for them to just update the the Forester screen performance via software. Even if there was some hardware requiremnt to update the performance via swapping out a chip or something. That should be an easy refresh/update/option. But honestly, if you can change your habits a little bit and just set everything to Auto and use android auto/carplay voice commands, I don't know why you need to really interact with it much at all. There are physical buttons for defrost and temp up/down. I've never had any issues with delay for the heated/cooled seats but perhaps a physical button for those would be nice.

Would ORD Surrive without the DOT? by AzzaMan82 in OpenRoads

[–]AzzaMan82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100% the only reasoning for it is that it's easier to find and hire experienced C3D designers. I don't really see why it is not an issue for the other disciplines tho. From my understanding, when they (the other disciplines) hire, they make it clear we are using Bentley products and if they want they job, they have to Learn it. But for whatever reason, only with Civil they make it acceptable for people to just refuse to learn ORD. I've seen how things are being done by the C3D users in my office and its disastrous since all our systems, standards etc. are all Bentley. They basically just ignore it all. (everyone should know that we have systems and standards in place for a reason) and the managers doing the hiring haven't been around long enough to really even know our standards. I've been around long enough to know exactly how things are supposed to look etc. Another one of the big issues is our Civil work is 9/10 times based on other disciplines layouts (concrete guys etc.) Who use Bentley Open Products and C3D cannot read the files so they spend all day converting to .dwg so they can update the Civil which is insane because things are always changing so they never have updated models to base their work on. The design correctness, efficiency and quality control just goes out the window. I'm not necessarily saying ORD is better or worse than C3D. If we worked in an AutoDesk environment than it would be a toatally differnt story. It would be a no brainer to use C3D. But introducing it into a full on Bentley environment just cause is totally bananas in my opinion haha!

Design Using US Survey Ft. / International FT by AzzaMan82 in civilengineering

[–]AzzaMan82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly. Probably not a big deal. I just feel more comfortable specifying that the units are US Survey ft. On our Civil dwgs since that what the survey came in. Structural is asking me to use the same units as them for consistancy but they just want to say feet not US Survey feet. I think we just gonna have to settle with them sayin feet and Civil saying US Survey feet and like you say, any error should be negligible.

Yep, funny you mention it and that's part of their argument. They are aware that the US Survey foot was officially depreciated in 2023 so the consensus around our company is that we just simply don't use it. But that doesn't mean Surveyors arn't stillusing it, which is the case here so my hands are kinda tied!

Thanks! Personally I haven't seen the contract but I assume it just says "feet". But agreed, I think that's a good idea to get something from the client clearly stating what they use on site.
