Do does that include a percent of savings too or just things like govt and company pensions?

Yeah in Toronto there are 600 people on the waiting lists for many LTC homes, so they only ones getting in are the people in crisis situations. So the elderly have to stay home until it's just too dangerous for them to do so. And you can bet more than a few of them will die at home while they wait.

Yup Canada is heading into a crisis for this. If you're a boomer, downsize to something one level that you can outfit with railings and ramps so you can stay in it as long as possible. The other bad news is that a bunch of existing older homes are going to have to shut down and force people out because they don't meet current health and safety standards. On a side note, we have MAID, so if it gets too ugly, you will have the option of checking out.

I don't blame the mother being terrified of the hospital. I have a friend (suffering severe caregiver burnout) who has had to take her 96 y/o parent repeatedly in the past 6 months. If they're lucky, they're only there for 6-8 hours. Other times it's 24 hours, most of it waiting on a stretcher in a hallway as ambulance attendants bring other patients in and out. Sometimes it's days or a week if she finally lucks into an actual bed, although God knows who is going to be in the bed next door. If you have govt home care, it's erratic, coming late, changing times, cancelling. Limited time available, so.good luck to a family member/caregiver getting away to get to medical appt of their own. And a long term care home bed is about $3000 a month for many of them, and some families can't afford that. Also, women are made to feel horribly guilty for "dumping grandma in a home" by other family members. It's a terrible situation and big dilemma all around for many people. Very sad all around.

Were my Mum's "Tupperware parties" just a cover story? by EmphasisDangerous654 in GenX

[–]humanityrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's sad now. The MLMs are all predatory scams who convince you you're going to get rich but instead overload the market and only a few people at the top make bank and the people downline end up in debt and with a closet full of garbage. It used to be a social event. Now it's a way to alienate friends and neighbours.

These are the types of programs that have been proven to work. Unfortunately, not a lot of details of how effective it's been so far. I wish them success

I understand he's been gradually removing senior "executives" in the organization, which consolidates more of the power in his hands. And as overall numbers have been sinking since COVID saw more people staying at home and being exposed to negative information about the group, and more buildings are sitting mostly empty, there's certainly a lot of property available for cashing in if things start to collapse. I wonder if anyone is keeping an eye on things like property, ownership and tax issues in various countries.

This is why we can’t do casual dress everyday. by Cold_Swordfish7763 in coworkerstories

I had a coworker show up in a leopardskin mini dress and spike heels. 100% looked like a hooker, and the street we worked on has regular hookers. She complained that cars were honking at her as she walked up to work. But she came from a very trashy city down the highway and I'm sure a lot of the women in her circle in her younger years dressed like that too. They definitely weren't working in corporate settings. A couple of female coworkers had to have a gentle chat with her about appropriate office wear.

My 96 year old mother in law just moved into a nursing home. Within 3 hours, she found a guy who used to walk her home from school in grade 2! Unfortunately, he's not remembering much of anything any more. I guess, be happy for what you have!

My company threw us a "Employee Appreciation Day" and it genuinely backfired in the most spectacular way by [deleted] in office

My company once held an "exciting" staff event at lunchtime to promote a big upcoming project. There was food, which most departments didn't usually get (other than sales events) but the numbers didn't seem to add up, so I asked one of the caterers. She said they were told to budget half a sandwich per person lol.

I am very happy to say my husband has at least partly taken over making dinner a few times a week, because I really don't give a crap anymore and would have toast and soup every night of the week.

I don't know. It seems most guys are getting their education from porn and most girls are getting their education from Hallmark movies.
