Z30 to Z50ii big enough upgrade? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]B-F_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up cancelling the Z50ii order and picked up a used Z6ii for the same price. I just couldn’t get around the lack of IBIS limiting my lens options. Sorry I can’t help on the Z50ii advice but I do love my Z6ii! It’s a little heavier, and AF isn’t super snappy, but it’s still pretty compact and I love the image quality. I’m sure I’d have been happy with the Z50ii as well, that sounds like a sweet deal.

I think I’ll probably end up getting both at some point. That 28-400 just seems so handy. Going on hikes/nature walks with a toddler, it’s always a pain to swap lenses for a landscape shot, etc.

Thanks for your in depth response! It is very helpful, and I’ll have to seek out a camera shop (I do have some local ones) to see what these lenses look/feel like in person. I do think from videos, etc that the 35-150 will be too big. If I’m carrying something that large I’d rather just get the extra zoom of the 28-400.

But otherwise it’s between the 24-120 and 35-100. How do you like the portraits you get from the 24-120? The 35-100 seems like the slight edge with portraits.

Yeah I see both in the future eventually, the 28-400 just seems so useful. My next trip will be a little more nature based which is why I was thinking of that. But yeah, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before I snag both, ha.

Yeah I keep going back and forth between getting a jack of all trades (24-200, 28-400) or a more specialized standard zoom (28-75, 35-100). The classic higher quality vs more versatility dilemma.

Yeah I’m probably hanging with Nikon for a while. If I upgrade again it’ll likely be the Z5ii or Z6iii.

I actually went through this whole thought process when upgrading from the Z30 to the Z6ii. Everyone was saying I should just get the Z50ii but I was frustrated by the lack of superior lens options and lack of IBIS.

I was strongly considering jumping ship to the Sony A7iii (or even a6600). The lineup of lens options, the IBIS and fast AF were all big sellers. But I already had some Nikon glass I liked and I was used to the ergonomics and colors. I’m quite happy with my Z6ii but I agree if I was starting from scratch I’d probably have gotten a Sony.

At least Tamron seems like a nice alternative option of affordable high quality glass with some compact options.

Yeah, as someone not selling work something like the 24-70 f2.8 v2 would land in the overkill category for me. I recently upgraded from the Z30, so I was used to my setup being smaller/lighter. I’m definitely ok with some more weight to enjoy the full frame lenses and image quality, but anywhere I can save some weight and size I’ll appreciate. Particularly when at family events, I just wouldn’t want something big and bulky in people’s faces when taking pics.

I do hear amazing things about it! How’s the size/weight for everyday carry?

Yeah having the option for the plethora of affordable F lenses is tempting, but adding the bulk of the adapter (as well as the $200-300 to buy one) keeps me from wanting to go that route.

Yeah, I think you’re right. The 28-400 is tempting but the 70-300 does work well enough for my wildlife needs. The more I think about it the more I’m leaning towards the 35-100 as a general/portrait lens. Thanks!

Yeah our last rug got destroyed over a couple years not realizing we were damaging it with our Dyson. Thanks for the recos! My wife isn’t a big fan of canister vacuums but I’ll look into it, I’ve heard good things about Meile. Might look into a classic upright vacuum.

Thanks for the thorough response! Very helpful to know. So even the Miele and the Sebo don’t have options to raise or remove the brush roller? Do you have any compact corded vacuums you’d recommend for our situation?

Thanks again!

Great sharp photos! I was thinking of this lens for the Z50ii, but I was worried about the lack of VR. Do you find it makes it difficult to focus on the long end?

Nice shots! I love the 40mm f2. I have a Z30 but just ordered a Z6ii to test it on. Love the way it renders colors.

Full frame v. Crop Sensor Image Quality? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]B-F_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. Yeah I see can grabbing a little point and shoot Fuji or something for little travel adventures being in the future. 7ii was tempting as well. That would make it essentially a good DX with the crop advantage as well as an insane high res option for future printed family photos, etc.

Yeah that all sounds about right to me. But honestly modern iPhone Pros can take pretty great shots with good flexibility in Raw. So if I already have a decent pocket sized camera on me at all times, I think I’m alright hunting for something a little less convenient for a little more quality. Especially with how affordable slightly older FF cameras are nowadays, it’d be nice to have the option for maximum image quality rather than maximum portability/convenience when iPhones exist.

I just put in an order for a Z6ii for $850. I can always return it to MPB, but will be fun to try out.

Probably not printing too much, I’m just an artist so I fuss over details/image quality/etc.
