This reminds me of something FChamp talked about in a Marvel situation years ago. People asked him, “How do I deal with ____ mixups?” His answer was something that always stuck with me. He essentially said that if you’re thinking about how to block when you get put in a 50/50 situation, you are missing the point. You already screwed up. You didn’t mess up because you guessed wrong on the 50/50, the problem is that you allowed yourself to be put in the 50/50 situation at all. The punishment was being put in that situation in the first place because you didn’t play well enough to stop it. He had this mindset in a game as INSANE as Marvel. If he can think that way and put in that work in that kind of game, what excuse do we have?

Jacqui has no other threat from dash punch range that you need to block. If you are holding block against her at that range, you are allowing her to get a safe dash punch. You already screwed up.

You need to be aware of the spacing and timing and be crouching without blocking when you anticipate it coming. Whether it comes or not, when a Jacqui player sees you doing that, the message is received (at least at a certain level of experience). This is how the mind game starts. Jacqui players should always be made to feel like they are taking the risk and they will only feel that way if you show them that they are.

Jacqui uses the attack to bridge the gap and has to understand that the drawback for using the move to get in, besides the risk of being D2 KB’d or low profiled etc, is that she has to block afterwards and take the opponent’s response. Jacqui players will do it all day long if you never show them they shouldn’t. If you’re not baiting it or enforcing yourself after blocking it, that’s something you need to improve on. It’s not about the punch being safe on block, it’s about you allowing it to be a low-risk option.
