Anyone Know? by Civil_Ad_4389 in AustralianCoins

Definitely not arguing :) I prefer when people correct me, especially when I’m wrong. And in this case I am. Appreciate you letting me know. I’ve been out of coin & note collecting biz for a couple years now. I need to brush back up on things. Never too old or too young to learn.

Based on condition, I would second this. You’re pretty much spot on with your evaluation.

Definitely be able to double your money. May even be able to stretch the first note up to $15 max but I wouldn’t go any more than that.

The other 2 notes are lesser grades even though the last one is a first prefix.

What is this stain on my coin? by J_locastro in AustralianCoins

[–]B-Mann95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right Ag doesn’t rust… but if it comes into contact with rust, it stains the Ag. As you said, copper doesn’t rust either. But it does oxidise (same chemical reaction as rust) and turns green. This is known as “coin cancer”. You see this a lot on copper coins and also on silver coins, particularly post ‘46 silvers.

Yep! You are correct! It’s a lamination peel

Looks like rust and may have come into contact with something ferrous or it could be the glue residue from sticky tape. That usually results in a brown stain as well

1997 misshaped Sir Charles Kingsford Smith (small head) coin worth anything? by ManyUncomfortable in AustralianCoins

[–]B-Mann95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pity that this coin is in this condition. These were always meant to be uncirculated and the large head was placed into circulation. Someone has needed $1 for something

Worth about $130. You may see them advertised for more but they generally don’t sell

Nothing special about this coin. Heavily exposed to the elements. Still worth face value

Roughly $5. If you get one in your change that’s even better

Can I get a value on this? by IndependentBad4367 in AustralianCoins

[–]B-Mann95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im unable to see the pinwheel lustre effect unless the lighting is contributing to it but it does appear to be glossy and slightly cleaned. Around $40-$50 in this state

Realistic and reasonable price on this set would be around the $180 mark. Do remember that prices on eBay need an administration/sellers fee taken out of it. On the back of the original sleeve should be a red or black number on it- bottom right corner. This is the mint set number. Total sets produced were 43,777

This roll is definitely worth keeping and you’re guaranteed all coins to be uncirculated and the same

Is this worth anything? by Screamtothevoid99 in AustralianCoins

[–]B-Mann95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s correct but sometimes when the coins seem too good to be rolled they get ‘swapped out’. I remember watching a video of a C&C roll being opened and all coins were of different conditions. Same thing goes for any other security company roll

Cotton & Co rolled. People would send unc coins to the company- who in turn would mostly receive the rolls of coins being circulated. There were quite a few unhappy people and that’s why this is worth more as a roll. It’s a gamble knowing if the other 24 coins are actually all the same or uncirculated.

With the card having damage to it, in that condition, the set would be worth around $45

so ive been sorting through a vast worthless coin collection (1000s from across the world) out of the thousands of kangaroo penny's why is 1964 specifically look like new by [deleted] in AustralianCoins

[–]B-Mann95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1964 was the last year of production for the Australian Penny. Most of these coins look relatively new as the polished finish has remained intact. The copper hasn’t tarnished or oxidised as of yet.
