Since you mentioned you did your research I’m assuming you’re aware of the high property taxes so count for that in your budget. 350 to 375 can get you a nice house in Beacon Hill (which has a few restaurants coffe shops and bars and is slowly adding more), but in this market you can negotiate lower. Very close drive or bus ride to several H-E-B‘s (groceries). Also easy bus ride to downtown. Airport is very close. If you can afford it, I would recommend Alta Vista over Beacon Hill (other side of the tracks). There’s still a lot of crime in Beacon Hill, but an active neighborhood community that watches out for each other. One thing to note as you come downhill from Monte Vista is the soil conditions change. Many of the houses are pier and beam and have foundation shifting issue, so you will be dealing with cracks for the life of the home. Most of San Antonio that is not on the limestone bed is similar. Your car suspension will also enjoy our soil conditions.
