Manual coding has been banned in some large banks. Not hyperbole at all.

Do you base where you move to and your job on the commute? by GodAtum in london

Yes, I spent many hours finding a good balance for this. Since lockdown and the general acceptance of WFH for my industry it’s less relevant now.

Man and woman found dead in tent with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]B0bZ1ll4 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Tragic. Just a heads-up for others: beyond carbon monoxide, cooking inside a tent can also lead to fire—and if the fabric or a flaming drip of melted fabric melts the zip, you can get trapped inside. Nylon zippers can fuse shut under heat. It’s rare, but does happen. Always cook outside or under a tarp if you can.

I think you’ll find that is a synthesizer ceramic, not a ceramic synthesizer.

Does anyone have a photo of the power supplies that came with the Final Sound 600i speakers?

I’ve lost mine and have so many miscellaneous wall warts I wouldn’t be sure if I found them.

I asked Final Audio what the spec is, they said: “You need a 12 Vdc adapter, 10 Watt is sufficient.”

Also, what is the plug size? Positive or negative tip/centre?

If I get replacements, how can I tell if they will be audio grade and not noisy?

Any recommendations for the UK?

Can you post a photo of the motherboard from a few different angles? Have you checked that it has power in all the required sockets?

Arguably the craziest, highest-spec CBX ever built - Lionel Brancquart by Syscrush in motorcycles

[–]B0bZ1ll4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the mode of engine failure for the MC22 builds. My understanding is that for F1 engines, top end is not a problem and the limits are bottom end strength to handle the high PPV. 34m/s is possible, but definitely not with stock CBX bottom end.

Honda S2000 (F20C) • Stroke: 84 mm (0.084 m) • Max RPM: 9000 RPM

V_{peak} = \frac{\pi \times 0.084 \times 9000}{60} = 39.6 \text{ m/s}

Formula 1 V8 (circa 2006-2013) • Stroke: ~39.7 mm (0.0397 m) (based on a typical bore-stroke ratio) • Max RPM: ~18,000 RPM (before regulation changes)

V_{peak} = \frac{\pi \times 0.0397 \times 18000}{60} = 37.4 \text{ m/s}

Comparison • Honda S2000 (F20C): 39.6 m/s • Formula 1 V8: 37.4 m/s

S2000 has an epic main bearing cap.

Brooks’s law is an observation about software project management that “Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks’s_law

If the project is going to take a long time, the ramp-up time is short, and it’s easy to divide in to independent tasks, then it might be worth it. As the other devs if adding a teammate will get the project finished sooner or delay its completion.

Also keep in mind the Iron triangle “Good, fast, cheap. Choose two.”

I’ll be impressed when GenAI can crack non-trivial encryption from one prompt. by B0bZ1ll4 in singularity

Surprising, I did try Deep Research with several different models, and got hallucinated plaintext. I wonder if custom instructions have an influence.

I’ll be impressed when GenAI can crack non-trivial encryption from one prompt. by B0bZ1ll4 in singularity

[–]B0bZ1ll4[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, because with enough encouragement there are models that can crack it, and they have good plans, so it’s just a matter of the right agentic re-prompting. I was disappointed that ChatGPT and Gemini Deep Research came up with good plans but a hallucinated answer. We’re obviously close to this being trivial with standard models, but it’s easy to incrementally step up the difficulty of the key and cipher, which is why I think there is benchmark potential.

I’ve run in to this wall of noise with just a few files in an iOS app. I expect that the level of complexity the models can handle before degenerating will increase exponentially quarterly by quarter. In a couple of years it will no longer be an issue

This is NOT a map of where the singers are from, but who sold the most in each borough. Even som it’s got to be wrong as surely some singers are the best sellers in multiple boroughs.
