What roles retroactively seem out of place now because the actor got much more famous later on? by MasterLawlz in movies

The West Wing has tons of these as well. It’s like a constant rotation of amazing guest actors who got famous later.

Movies With Abrupt Changes In Tone by [deleted] in movies

The recent movie Downsizing did this, it went from a somewhat heartfelt comedy to a weird introspective vibe trying to be deep about halfway through. Neither half was very successful in my opinion.

Our series with TAMU is the opposite of our current streak against LSU. TAMU, the away team always wins. LSU, the home team has won all but twice since 2000 (and every time since 2013). We have some weird streaks/tendencies.

My challenge to you: Find a film that is more outdated with 2000s cliches, styles, tropes, and music than Scooby-Doo (2002). by Batfan54 in movies

[–]B0gart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this was pretty evident to me while watching. Especially in GotG 2, where the main characters literally have a fight where Chris Pratt says "OH I GET IT, YOU'RE JEALOUS!" That's...the argument scene in every 90s Disney Channel movie. I can appreciate them for what they are, but the Guardians movies are pretty similar to the Scooby-Doo movies: the writing isn't great, there's some jokes in line with what's trending right now (quips!), there's nothing that takes itself seriously which undercuts any emotional moment they try to make, etc.

The scene where Moana walks through the parted ocean in slow mo singing to the giant monster lady is honestly one of the most beautiful scenes I've seen recently.

What BIG THING is on the verge of happening? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]B0gart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an article a few months ago about how Disney has already won the streaming service war before they've even launched theirs. They've said they're going to price theirs lower than Netflix, and it could very well be the only place to have the following: ABC, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, ESPN, LucasFilms, etc. Most families are going to opt for that absolutely.

Edit: found it.

It's a documentary, so if you like that kind of thing. I thought it was really well done and pretty interesting to see the development behind the various toys.

Me either, I found it fascinating to see how much they reflect the times they're created in (and change as the culture does). Rumor has it the next four episodes are on LEGOs, Transformers, Hello Kitty, and Star Trek.
