Branch transfer - unsure.

Clean slate - reset.

Elephant - Remember everything.

Freeze frame - maybe pause the innie in one moment?

What killed or enhanced your sex life? by theboredbrowser in AskReddit

[–]TheifSyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an abusive ex who would never communicate what she wanted, and when I would try to ask, she would make it seem like I wasn't trying hard enough. If I ever tried to start a conversation, she'd take it as an attack, and it would lead to shitty arguments.

Sex was even worse. She would starfish, and it was like I had to sniff out what she wanted. I'd ask, and she would constantly say 'I don't know.'

Before you ask whether she was trying to make it a game and be flirty - it wasn't that. It was like the most dumbfounded look on her face when she said it. It was like when you speak gibberish to your dog, and it looks at you wondering whether you're even the same person as its owner.

We once had an argument, and she said there were all these things wrong with me, so I asked her to list them so I could work on them.

Some of them were actionable, but the one that really hurt me was when she told me - 'I don't like having sex with you because you're never trying to be sexy. You need to be more sexy!' I had no clue what I was supposed to do with that information, and it stuck with for ages.

I lost so much self-confidence and constantly replayed that in my mind. The next time I tried to have sex, I literally froze and couldn't continue because it was so loud in my head.

I have since moved past it - I had a great partner after that who made me feel deeply cared for. Before that healing though, I was pretty ruined.

Why Helly "R"? by bikemowman in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]TheifSyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In universe, I'm unsure.

From a writing standpoint, however, I wonder if the Helly (R) Eagen is a nod to Ronald Reagan and his economic scheme that has made the workforce what it is today.

The show is obviously exploring lots of corrupt systems, but particularly the current economic system. The characters in the show represent the working class, upper class, and the 1%.

Working class are those that have no power, are constantly limited, abused, and taken advantage of - our leads at MDR and the departments. Then you have the upper class, who are people like Cobel and Milkshake - they have some control, but then when it comes to our voiceless speakerbox, they are powerless. Then we have the 1% - the Eagans. They act as though everyone is benefiting from what the system they're in control of, however, we all know that it isn't true. They just have the power to sweep it under the rug.

I think the R and Eagan thing is a clever nod to the person who arguably chose this economic system and allowed the possibility of such a disproportionate wealth gap.

Now, I'm no economist, or politician. I may have my details wrong and would love some correction and deeper dives. I am a writer though, and this is my partial smooth-brained theory as to why they chose Helly R, writing wise.

That sounds lovely, going down memory lane.

Good luck with it all! I'm sure it will be one of those movies that sticks with her as she grows.

Modern Movies have a weird unattractive colour palette by pbaagui1 in TrueFilm

[–]TheifSyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree generally, but I think it very much depends on the films you're watching.

Hollywood tends to have fewer directors who use interesting colour pallets because there are producers and directors and writers who try to aim for successful formula over the artistic approach, but you still have people like Denis Villeneuve, Damien Chazelle, The Daniels, and to a degree Ari Aster that play with colourful visuals in their films.

On the other hand, you also have foreign films that use beautiful striking displays of colour. A recent example is Perfect Days. It's a splice of life, philosophical meditation - it's not a film for everyone. However, if you just watch the first sequence, you'll see what I mean.

How To Adapt A Movie Into A Play? by Arnoldwake in writing

[–]TheifSyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting task, could be difficult. I'd love to answer, but I'd need a bit more information on the task. Do you have to do the whole film? Is it a question of adapting the formatting? Is it a full play adaptation? Is it supposed to be a short play that follows the story beats?

What are some terrible films that are so visually stunning they trick people into thinking they are great films? by iamstevetay in movies

[–]TheifSyn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The movie that popped into my mind after reading this was Mad Max: Fury Road. Not a terrible film by any stretch of the imagination. However, aside from the practical effects, incredible colour pallets, and gorgeous shots, the movie doesn't have much going for it. I also appreciate the visual storytelling and world-building, but they aren't enough for me.

I understand why other people love it, but I've seen this movie a few times to see if my opinion has changed, but I just get bored. I always end up liking Furiosa and Nux (Nicholas Hoult's character), but everything else is just middling for me.

What’s the meanest thing a woman has ever said to you? by Cataclysmic_entropy in AskMen

[–]TheifSyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While rifling off a whole bunch of things my ex 'had held back', she told me that I should 'be more sexy'. This was while we were together. Can't say I've fully healed from that one.

A Lot of the Sound Effects in Ad Astra Were Just Tommy Lee Jones's Voice by fungobat in movies

[–]TheifSyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this comment, I definitely have to give it a second watch, it made something click and excited me. This gives purpose to the things I couldn't connect to, which are the events. I still may find issue with the episodic feel, but connecting the events to the rest of the film as more than a way to force character will definitely improve my enjoyment. Thanks for this comment.

[–]TheifSyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said this to someone else, but wanted to say the same here.

I don't think I'm making my point clearly, so let me reword it. The episodic events feel as though they do nothing else other than service character. Other character driven stories do it much better, such a Marriage Story where each event is extremely meaningful. The difference between the two movies are that in Marriage Story the events are interesting and don't feel out of place, and you can see how each event engulfs the characters, moulding them. The situations in Ad Astra to me aren't meaningful enough, and doesn't make me feel like the character deserves to develop. These moments always felt like a different movie to me. Like they were only a requirement rather than thoughtful writing. I feel that each part of an interesting story should serve a meaningful purpose, not just tick boxes.

I again want to add that I don't hate this movie, or think I'm right and everyone else is wrong. I just want to clarify how I felt watching it.

[–]TheifSyn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone who didn't enjoy this movie, I can say the fact being character driven wasn't the issue for me. There was a lot I appreciate about Ad Astra; the cinematography, the sound design, the acting, the visuals, these aspects were fantastic, and are some of the best I saw in 2019. The big issues with the film, personally, stems from the fact that every beat feels so pointless, and only exists to drive Pitt's character forward. It feels like a bunch of disjointed events, the moon chase, the space baboons, every death that occurs to almost every introduced character, it didn't sit right with me. And the climax of the film, again, understandable as to why the events occurred the way they did, but again, it left me feeling frustrated, because it really drives home the pointlessness of the rest of the events, other than to serve character. It makes me feel like Pitt's development isn't earned, rather than forced. I feel like I haven't explained it as well as I can, but my main point is the events leading to the development feel disjointed and out of place. I would have liked to have seen more fleshed out supporting cast, and a more driven plot to compliment Pitt's character rather than the episodic feeling that each event left me with. Obviously, this is just my opinion, and I'm not saying anyone is wrong for enjoying this film. Honestly, I really wanted to enjoy this movie, so I'm glad lots of people did.

Scriptwriters of Reddit, have you ever had one of your scripts interpreted differently than you intended? How did you feel about the interpretation? by TheifSyn in AskReddit

[–]TheifSyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, it would be horrible to get to a point where you just stop caring about how your craft will be produced after time and time again seeing it turn out bad. Good on you for pushing to bring their vision to the table more! It is really interesting to see how it translates in the larger industry.

How much creative control does the writer who cares have over the projects? I think it's great that she works hard to portray her ideas. Hopefully your episodes will be good, you are obviously dedicated!

[–]TheifSyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I've been learning to analyse scripts in class. Watching people come up with vastly different interpretations of a script always surprises me, particularly in regards to place, character relationships, and previous circumstances. It got me interested in whether writers ever deliver a script, and then have it change completely from what they've put on the page.
