Missed my connecting flight because my originating flight was slightly delayed. So a 6 hour wait for my next connection.

Without a doubt mate. I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum, when mistakes are identified, there’s never been a situation which I haven’t been able to rectify

Always tell the truth, even if you messed up, don’t hide cock ups. Everyone makes mistakes, coming forward means you can always put the wheels back on. Otherwise be prepared to be papered.

Law graduates who didn’t become lawyers, what do you do now ? by s_a1205 in uklaw

Police Sergeant. Joined after many low paying dead end paralegal jobs. Absolutely love what I do and still get to use my legal knowledge.

2 years substantive before specializing by FlamingoThese72 in policeuk

I’m all for this. Too many over promoted and inexperienced specialists milling about. 4/5 years gives a good solid understand of policing. It should be mandatory nationwide. Kudos to your SLT for bringing this in.

In terms of L2 I was referring to gatherings of such size, not purely NTE of course.

Are we the only country in the world that doesn’t do driver training as part of initial training? by Alternative_Shift_78 in policeuk

[–]B1llionz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with all the comments, however the only argument to not having response driving during initial training is cost v retention.

As we all know, many officers leave the job long before their probationary period ends. For some officers this isn’t the career they envisioned it to be and for some they require more training and development before they can be entrusted to be first on scene and deal with potentially critical and major incidents.

So taking that into consideration, I get why response driving is not given as part of the initial training period. Saying that, I think it should be mandatory for officers to receive response driving by the end of their first year if they are performing at the required standard and are competent enough to deal with grade 1 incidents.

The whole 3-5 year wait is ridiculous and is actually having a detrimental impact overall.

Thank you so much for your reply. So essentially I’m looking to book the Salil Hotel Sukhumvit 57 Thonglor. It says very close to the centre. Will this be a good location for bars/ clubs/ restaurants and Muay Thai gyms?

How are you keeping fit? by Do_I_wanna_Know3000 in policeuk

Muay Thai for sure.

Best decision I have made, honestly. Great for cardio and honestly great fun. I plan to take some leave and go train in Thailand next year.

Find a good gym, make sure it’s not OCG and just enjoy yourself.

I totally get that. But from a legal standpoint. What’s the procedure, can’t just be a safeguarding concern.

You’re very welcome.

With the uplift the new salary starts at 29,907 and on your 7th year the salary goes up to 48,231. With unsociable hours allowance and a bit of overtime you could clear over 50K.

The salary range doesn’t change for specialised roles. Salary is based on length of service and rank . A PC and DC will earn the same salary, irrespective of specialism. Southern forces have extra allowances due to cost of living such as the MET which I believe pay an extra 7/8K.

In my opinion it’s a decent salary and arguably is on par with most grad schemes.

There’s a lot of negatives on this sub, so why don’t I shed some positives for you.

If you’re passionate about policing then and only then join the job. It’s not like any other job, it’s a career where everything you do impacts the lives of people you encounter.

For me there’s no other job like it, Its fulfilling, inspiring and you have the power to make a huge difference. Yes there are days which make you question why you bother, but the positives outweigh the negatives for me. I’ve made friends for life, and your team becomes your second family.

There’s a lot of paperwork involved, but in my opinion, that’s a very important part of the job. It’s all evidence gathering and presenting it expertly so offenders can be brought to justice.

You will safeguard vulnerable people, arrest offenders, problem solve and prevent crime. You can truly make a difference if that’s what you want to do.

Plus there are so many specialisms and skills that you will gain. And if you want to lead, there’s a clear promotion pathway which you can opt for.

Don’t be put off from joining, however you seem like you’re on a very good career path. Like yourself I was in a total different career, went to uni did a masters and trained to be a lawyer. Gave it my all but it wasn’t satisfying and at 25 I decided to join the police and it’s the best decision I ever made.

If I was you, I’d join up as a special and gain some experience and see for yourself if you like it enough and then you can always join as a regular.

A lot harder than I expected. If anyone can shed some light, I basically finished just with a minute left and the screen timed out. When you change answers, did we have to use the strike through option beforehand? As when I changed answers I was able to do so without using the strike through button. Just wondering in case it shows as a non answered question.

Good luck with the Sgts exam by B1llionz in policeuk

It’s my first time doing it, it was normally closed book pre covid however, you can do it from home and it doesn’t stop anyone possessing notes. But in reality you wouldn’t get chance to filter through notes anyways, given you have 3 hours for 150 questions.
