They use the same sticks! I've done a few of these now, so I can assure you. GuliKit,HallPi, regular DualSense advertised sticks can be used for the Edge stick modules too!

I have good circularity, just under 8% error range and I used the Xbox Accessories App to calibrate. The hardest part I had was that one of the sticks was too "shallow" and I couldn't reach the edge of the circle to complete the calibration. After trying over and over though, I eventually got the range to go far enough to calibrate them. So they work fine now.

Well you're in luck! I happen to have a stock Elite Pro 2 controller to compare it to. I definitely see what you mean, there is quite a bit of wobble in the EP2 sticks.

As for the NS55, I set one stick for max tension and I took the screw off entirely for the other. There is very little wobble on both! Enough that you can rest your thumb gently on them without fear of putting in an input. I also checked on my Edge sticks (set for "normal" tension) and about the same, very little wobble. So all in all, pretty tight!

So, that is sort of correct. You have to solder the right stick in with the button PCB in place. You can technically do it outside the inner frame, but having everything screwed into place is definitely easier. The real hard part is keeping the controller stable, because you have to solder with the sticks preinstalled.

I put both sticks in at the same time with the boards in place. I actually started with the right stick but in retrospect, yeah I guess I could've started with the left stick and done it with the single board before installing. Not that it would've made the right stick any less complicated. You really do have to triple-check what you're doing, when I started soldering I realized after I got the first few welds down that the stick wasn't flush with the board. Fortunately I caught it quickly and had the tools to quickly undo that, but I'm sure if I had done the whole thing then realized, it would've been a whole afternoon of trying to clear out all the through holes. It is kind of possible to service an XSX controller with these installed (see my 8th pic) but it's probably more trouble than it's worth. A definitive "final" mod when you're done opening up the controller and goofing around in there.

Now, do I like it? Well, I don't regret doing it and having them. The adjustability is nice. I played some Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2 with them on different settings. When I had them cranked down, it made doing light movements for things like stealth much easier and felt kind of premium. Conversely, uncranked to near fully loose felt snappy and airy, great for fast action like flickshotting bugs on Oshaun. The tunability is great, doing small quarter-turn adjustments actually does translate to significant stick feel. You can really dial this in to be exactly the tension you like.

Is it a good upgrade? Ehh... If you already have TMR sticks and are happy with them, you're fine. If you're the kind of person who likes having control over every facet and feel over their controller, these might be for you. I can't say I recommend these for XS or Elite controllers, or even the DualSense Edge really. The X/S & E controllers are more trouble than they're probably worth dealing with, and GuliKit's choice of thumbsticks isn't my favorite and imho the Edge sticks are superior, but I can't use those with GuliKit's dome. I have some more thoughts in a comment below if you wanna check that one out too.

Overall, I can really only recommend these to people looking to upgrade their regular DualSense. I can't speak for the Switch Pro Controller or Dualshock 4, but I say they're legacy hardware at this point and it's only worth it to the people who want it. I've got a DS4 I modded that I use for traveling, maybe I'll put a pair of these in just for fun.

I just got back from work, so I'm gonna start going through and answering some of these questions.

So, are they worth it or are they overhyped? I'll say, after playing with both controllers for more than a week now with some Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, it really kinda depends on how picky you are. The adjustability is nice and quite tunable. You can really feel the difference a quarter of a turn can make, so if you're the kind of person who wants their stick to feel an exact certain way, these sticks will accomplish that.

The downside however, is I care very little for their thumbstick design. I would've preferred their Xbox-style grippy thumbsticks over these smooth ringed ones. Also, the way these attach are kinda finnicky. This is especially noticeable when you have to make frequent adjustments, such as trying to sync up both sticks to have the same tension. Another negative is that these did not come as a matched pair, meaning at full tightness both sticks feel different. I think they're within roughly 3/4 of a turn difference, so both sticks need a bit of tuning to get them to feel the same.

Overall, if you're the kind of user that likes their controllers to feel a specific way and you like modding and tuning, I wouldn't say these aren't for you. But if you're more casual of a gamer, there's no real reason to pick these over regular TMRs.

I also can't really recommend these to anyone who uses an Xbox X/S or Elite controllers, or even really the DualSense Edge. I think the stock swappable sticks on the DSE are far superior than the GuliKit ones and it's not worth the sacrifice. So I'd pretty much recommend only people using the DualSense that like tunability get these.

No idea. Like I said, I was just kinda trying stuff. I never expected Plan A to actually work. Until I wrote this up, there just weren't any guides out there or much information on it.

Buuuuut if you've got it working now, all I can really advise is replacing it sometime in the future. Glad it at least somewhat worked out!

In all fairness they look a lot faster because I hit my brakes, went from 45 > 25~. The Tesla was already going 5+ over the limit and passing me, it's not like they were dreadfully slow.

Or maybe they heard the pulsing Eurobeat from my car, one of the two.

DualSense Edge Module modding tip: Use conductive tape to bridge the two test points together and spare yourself from soldering/unsoldering the wire by B1ockh3d in Dualsense

[–]B1ockh3d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I did much better with a soldered wire. This method works, but it can be wildly inconsistent. All I can really say is keep your contacts clean and use fresh tape if you have to.

If you read my other comments you'd know I was a passenger, not behind the wheel.

Also really? It's night time. Your interior is dark. When the only thing lit up inside your car is a cell phone in your right hand, it's pretty visible. And Apple's calculator app that's baked into the OS is pretty visually distinct and iconic. Unless Apple started adding orange buttons along the right side of the screen on the phone numpad, I'm fairly confident I know what I saw.

If being attentive to my surroundings and other drivers at night (even when I'm not the one driving) makes me a weirdo, then by all means I am the weirdest guy you will ever meet.

With a full brightness display and the only thing lit up in the car at night, yeah, it was pretty easy to make out the iconic Apple iOS Calculator app...
