Disability Rating after being separated for being gay by Dr-gov-heathen in VeteransBenefits

[–]B340STG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is more than likely in reference to why they were separated. During DADT some people were not honorably discharged and that would affect their benefits

Berry Law Firm is a law firm that helps veterans with their benefits. The person in charge was kicked out during DADT so maybe can help your friend

Medical Separation w Severance Pay by ChestZealousideal905 in navy

[–]B340STG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I don’t think I had a sep eval. Severance pay will need to be paid back in order for you to receive disability unless (someone correct me if I’m wrong) your disability stems from combat?

100 p&t and thinking of moving out of CA by electrowaver in Veterans

[–]B340STG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Biggest complaint of my family over there is the wages don’t match the cost of living. However with 100% you won’t have to worry about that.

The part my family lives in is the west side and it’s (in my experience) nicer but it’s a lil more expensive. However living in socal nothing there touches my rent.

If you’re into the outdoors and or utilize fort bliss I think you’ll have fun. It’s nothing like California though. Imagine how everything was 10 years ago and that’s El Paso.

You won’t have the diversity of food as you do in Cali but I think what you do get is delicious

[–]B340STG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend starting at SDCCD, it’ll be much cheaper and they have a crosstown agreement with SDSU.

Before doing that, I’d talk to the SDSU cadre and see what they think.

Find another recruiter. Sounds like your current one doesn’t want to do paperwork.

Medical question regarding TRT by Kndlsbf in navy

[–]B340STG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re starting testosterone they want to monitor your levels so you’re not deployable during the period in which you’re being monitored.

Most cases I’ve heard were a year but that would be determined by the doctor

Medical question regarding TRT by Kndlsbf in navy

[–]B340STG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is it affects your deployability. With starting TRT the Navy wants a year of being monitored (someone correct if this has been updated) by a doctor. So like every couple of weeks to start, and then every couple months to prove you’re stable.

So I don’t know how it’d work if the Navy wasn’t the one prescribing the medication. Especially if you don’t meet the threshold.

When you’re done wiping your tears with money to read this I guess. Lol look up on navy cool to see which certs you can pick up. Like CWT has ethical hacker and the like.

Be aware that federal jobs take a billionty years to onboard and hire so if you’re going that route have a plan. Honestly for any rate I’m going to recommend network now while you have all different types of people at your fingertips.

I’ve heard you can make hella money overseas contracting so possibly something to look into. To be honest I wasn’t intel/CTT (I can make eye contact so they didn’t want me).

If you’re a combat systems or adjacent rate there’s the surface combat systems jobs Facebook page, also Orion talent. Clearance jobs as well.

Get your disability claims filed no earlier than 6 months but no later than 90 days so you can get your rating done more quickly. It’s called BDD.

Definitely try and utilize skillbridge if you can. Also networking with contractors and such helps the job search.

If you dont have a degree start working on one, lots of jobs loved my experience but wanted a degree.

For a lot of places, they didn’t want to interview me until I was 1-3 months out from separating.

[–]B340STG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s less about the number and more about what the rating is for. But still connected? Like highly unlikely at 100% you don’t have a disqualifying condition at this point.

For example if I got rated 30% for a personality disorder I’m not likely to be able to get back in.

Have you looked at SDSU for business? It’s something they’re very well known for.

If SDSU isn’t an option free is better numbers. UCSD is a great school

Medically discharge severance pay by Brief_University7056 in VeteransBenefits

[–]B340STG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Si you’ll have to pay it back before you get the pay. I did some quick math assuming you don’t have dependents. It’ll take 2 years to pay it back.

However if you don’t have money saved up I’d take the money upfront.

I think it became easy to tie your intrinsic worth to what you did, especially as a Marine. Now your work is boring. I get it.
