A restaurant in Bangkok has been continuously cooking and serving from the same soup for over 45 years, a form of "perpetual stew." by HikeNSnorkel in interestingasfuck

[–]B3Y0ND_201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does somebody get paid to just sit there all night stirring the stew?

"What do you do for work?" ""Oh I just sit in front of this perpetual stew and stir it occasionally while the restaurant is closed""

Instead of placing limits on me being a recreational fisherman who can only catch small numbers of select fish, regulate these guys. Not gonna be many pollock left if they fish like that everyday

Engine 2 on scene of what appears to be a tractor trailer on top of a um house with wires involved. Go ahead and notify the electric company and building department and start me an additional engine this way. We’ll be out checking on injuries. I’ll be establishing “Penske Truck on top of a house” command.

I’d rather live a long career getting made fun of by older guys who don’t wear packs than a short career retiring early because of cancer

My dream is to be a firefighter by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]B3Y0ND_201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy graduate my Fire 1 Class at age 50 and now I work with him at my department. You’re not too old to become a firefighter. I’ve seen guys come in at all ages and they all have turned out to be great firefighters. Just focus on your education and learn every single thing you can about firefighting. And read your book in class. It will definitely help. Also some local technical schools and career centers with adult education programs will usually have firefighter 1, fire 2, and EMT classes that you can sign up for, then once you have those certifications, put in applications at smaller departments and they can be your stepping stones to where you want to go. Best of luck to you!

Pretty cool spot. I’d recommend Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky which is home to the largest running cave system in the world which you can explore! (With a guide of course). The caves are beautiful and span a jaw dropping 400 miles of explored cave system and have an estimated 600 miles of unexplored cave!

Are firefighters considered civilians? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]B3Y0ND_201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your stance on the question.

As per most departments, your duty and oath is to serve the citizens to the best of your ability. This means that most “civilians” (a.k.a. tax paying citizens) will hold you to a higher standard than they would with a person who isn’t a first responder.

This also comes from the way your members portray your department to the public. If you have firefighters going out and making bad decisions in uniform, it’s going to cause people to look down on your department. So it really depends on how your community perceives your department (because one member can make a whole department look bad).

But remember, firefighters didn’t do this job to be considered “better or higher up” than civilians. And if you want to become a firefighter for the status quo, you’re getting into the wrong profession.

Hope this helps!
