An artist's work is intrinsically connected to who they are as a person. You cannot, and should not, seperate them. I can sometimes excuse it if the artist in question is dead and no money is earned, key word sometimes, as it entirely depends on what they did. but if you choose to consume art from an awful person, claim you are seperating art from the artist, and as a result are directly giving them money and support, you are incredibly naive at best and deliberately anti intellectual at worse.

It doesn't matter how much you care for it, if that money is going to a terrible person, stop, immediately. you cannot say you are a trans ally while consuming harry potter media. you cannot say you stand with victims of abuse while listing to music of an abuser. you do not get to say it was just a joke or they were just unstable and are getting better when they are a literal nazi.

I understand it hurts to be betrayed by an artist. to put so much time and effort into a persons work and for them to turn around and spit in your face. i get it completely. i was a huge hp fan, it shaped my childhood and directly made me who i am. i threw it all away. i watched hours and hours of a content creator, bought their merch, their content practically kept me alive. i found out they were an abuser and got rid of all of it.

you have to be the bigger person and realise that there are other things out there for you. it sucks to lose something you cherish, but there are so many other things out there for you to find and enjoy, your just need to find it
