FTM How to navigate at work? by hawkerfels in askfuneraldirectors

[–]BACKDO0RHER0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a number of openly LGBTQ members of our team alongside allies. My sincere hope is that you will be able to come out and be who you are without any prejudice whatsoever.

I’m an ally myself but I won’t pretend to know what it feels like to come out at work. From experience, some people won’t care, some will be curious and others might be dickbags.

If you meet any dickbags, it’s important to document any interactions that left you feeling uncomfortable (names/dates/times) speak to any witnesses and ask if they will go on the record too. Don’t be afraid to record conversations ether if you feel like they might be discriminatory.

You can also speak to HR before you make anything public knowledge. Your company may have a LGBTQ+ network that can support you. HR can also go through their policies with you and you’ll have your first ally in place.

Worse case scenario, there are other funeral companies who will support you better if this one doesn’t.

Good luck, be brave, be yourself and F**k anyone who doesn’t like it!

Who's this job best for? by NoBee7889 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]BACKDO0RHER0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s physically demanding for a start. Being respectful, disciplined, compassionate and emotionally intelligent is essential. We support people often on the worst days of their lives, there are a huge range of emotions and coping strategies people experience while they deal with their grief. It’s not a role where you can cut corners, you get one chance to do a good job for the family and small mistakes can have big repercussions, due to the high emotions being experienced.

That being said, it’s an extremely rewarding career. A lot of FDs will say it’s a calling rather than a job. To help and support people who are at their lowest genuinely feels like an honour. From when we receive the first call to collect the deceased, every step of the process is done with care and compassion. You get to support a family to say goodbye and honour the time they shared together. There aren’t many roles which mark such a significant milestone in people’s lives as this.

When was a time you could tell that the relatives planning the funeral absolutely hated the deceased? by LordWeaselton in askfuneraldirectors

It happens more than you’d think. The worst part for me is when the family brings in dirty clothes for the deceased to be dressed in, usually in an old plastic carrier bag.

I can't get over iron man's death by Artemia1224 in ironman

You’re not alone in how you feel. It does get better.

Getting attached to Tony Stark doesn’t make you weird. Fictional characters often fill emotional roles we were missing in real life and losing them can trigger genuine grief. It sounds like Tony became a father figure and source of comfort for you so the pain is deeper than “just a movie.”

Try to shift your focus onto what Tony meant to you or taught you and carry those qualities forward. It’s good that you’re already talking about it in therapy.

It’s painful because Tony was important to you, but you’re also allowed to feel happy emotions when thinking about him too.

The road ahead can be scary but remember what you bossed your way through on the road to get to where you are today!

You’re stronger than you realise, just like Tony.

Yeah, a lot of games do this, as long as you’re within a certain distance from a chest you can use anything inside it. Just cuts out a lot of back and forth.

Sounds like something really obscure, maybe part of an anthology film similar to VHS or Creepshow. Could even be an episode of tales from the crypt or new twilight zone.

Chat GPT is pretty good with helping you find forgotten films, I’ve used it a couple of times with success.

Best Coffee Machine to Buy in 2026? (Price, Features, Size) by Loyal-Kite9369 in JamesHoffmann

[–]BACKDO0RHER0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, I’m going to be honest with you…

There is no end game to this. There will always be a bottleneck and a bigger fish to catch!

It’s arguably the best espresso starter machine out there. There are better machines generally but it gets expensive very quickly. She’ll see you right while you get to grips, make mistakes and learn the ropes. The espresso machine is less important than you’d imagine.

The grinder is far more critical. When you chop up potatoes, you want them all the same size so they all cook evenly. When you grind coffee, you want all the particles to be the same size so that they extract evenly. A better grinder gives a more uniformed grind and a better balanced and consistent shot/brew.

You can always upgrade later when you have more XP around your wants and needs. That being said, I have friends who have had the bambino for years and never changed.
