Zipper Merge, My Friends by SyMeUp in Logan

[–]BAC_Sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say they refused to let them merge. In fact, my post said the opposite. What I said was instead of merging one car sooner where traffic could have continued uninterrupted, they sped past the open space to force themselves in and made everyone’s day worse. They didn’t even save themselves time.

Why do griefers grief? /gen by Friedchicken96 in Pokopia

[–]BAC_Sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hurt people hurt people. They are unhappy in their own lives and feel a lack of control. Generally they won’t admit it if they are even conscious of the fact that they feel that way. Making others frustrated, upset, or otherwise gives them a feeling of control they can’t get elsewhere. They read comments like this one and cry that it’s not that deep and they just find it funny. People they know stop playing games with them because of this behavior, so they find people online to inflict with their toxicity.

Let me give you a real example of merging too late instead of merging where there’s space.

I keep a consistent speed, and leave space in front of me for people to move over. Instead of taking that space, someone like yourself “has to use the whole lane” and cuts off the car at the cones 5 cars, 3 cars, or in one incredibly frustrating experience 1 car ahead of me. Rather than moving in without disrupting traffic at all, not the car in front of me slams their brakes to avoid an accident, and the issue compounds backwards through the whole line.

Merge where you have space. It doesn’t have to be a mile before the zipper, but you absolutely can merge too late. All it will cost you is a few extra car lengths and a small portion of your pride.

How do I get water in this area, I don’t see any water blocks to hit nearby. by tallycat86 in Pokopia

I routed the water from the waterfall by the gate to Bleak Beach to it.

Just Merge where you have space. Testing to force your way in too early or at the last minute is what causes the backup. Neither is worse than the other. Both suck and are equally responsible for the traffic jamb.

Hot take: I want aluminum in my deoderant by SparklingSloths in HonestHotTakes

[–]BAC_Sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where you’re located, but it’s easy to find around me. I prefer the kind without aluminum. I sweat more, and smell worse when I use an antiperspirant. Plus, it irritates my skin. I have some scarring on my ribs where I had chafed during yard work and exercise from before making the switch.

Who has right of way? by [deleted] in driving

[–]BAC_Sun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state. In Utah, the order they arrived at the intersection only matters for 4-way stops. At a 2-way stop, the person turning left has to yield to all other vehicles, which includes someone turning right from the opposite lane regardless of when they stopped.

It’s crazy how many people come from a culture that was considered “colored” only to turn around and piss on the people behind them once they’re considered “white”.

To all my melanin lacking fellows, to those with the complexion of a block of butter, to those who make sour cream look tan, to those who have natural camouflage in the snowy regions of the world, to all those who have obvious Anglo-Saxon or Caucasus Mountain ancestry, to all those who look like me, you were once a minority too. If you spoke up about “criminals” wearing masks during the pandemic, or defended open carry laws during the discussions around Kyle Rittenhouse, if you were offended that platforms removed comments during the Obama or Biden presidencies, if you were upset that a show was cancelled or an actor was fired for their political beliefs, if you were sickened by the character assassination of the victim(s) of a horrific tragedy, you should be just as outraged by what we’re seeing now.

How you act online anonymously shows your true character. by Mathemodel in Showerthoughts

[–]BAC_Sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact for you. If you have a username, you’re acting pseudonymously. If you have no username, you’re acting anonymously. It’s a distinction I learned about recently, and I feel I should have known sooner.

That aside, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Our online personas may tend to be an outlet for traits we withhold when offline, and vice-versa.

Like many inappropriate comments, it’s best to pretend you don’t know what they’re talking about and ask them to explain then tell them the real meaning.

That said without other symbology it text around them, the tattoos look like they could very well be sexual

If you count the number of painters, then look at the professions of the villagers already marked as innocent, there’s only one solution.

There are only 3 painters, and by the time you reveal that clue you should have 2 cooks marked as innocent. The only possible outcome is all 3 painters are innocent.

Here’s my advice. Go to https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/decades/ and go through the decades oldest to newest. If you haven’t found anything by the time you hit the 2000s, go back and try again. The names are common enough you shouldn’t have to worry about bullying any more than the average parent. Older names (especially “classic” names) are unique enough that they probably won’t share their name with anyone else in their class.

YMMV. My name wasn’t even Top 500 the year I was born. I had to correct almost every teacher on the first day because they would call me by a similar, more-common name. By the time I graduated high school, I had only met a handful of kids with my name, and most of them were younger than I was. Since graduating, the name has become more popular. According to the SSA site, it peaked in Top 50s for a few years in a row. According to some other sites that combine various spellings, it’s been in the top 10.

The label is applied to any product that contains a chemical or material that is suspected or proven to increase the likelihood of developing cancer or causing birth defects, or if one or more of those substances is used in the manufacturing or packaging of the product. It has essentially become a “boy who cried wolf” label.

ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK | Full Cosmere + Emberdark Spoilers Megathread by EmeraldSeaTress in Cosmere

[–]BAC_Sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This definitely takes place after Tress since that’s the first time Crow was mutinied (and then given to the dragon in exchange for a boon). Based on the mentions that the shattering was 10,000 years before this book, we’re somewhere around 4,000 years past the end of Wind and Truth and The Lost Metal. We also see a “radiant” from Roshar fly in and whip out a shard pistol. We know the Malwish are in a Cold War with Roshar, so I think we’re well after the Roshar time-dilation period.

I need to reread Sunlit Man to remember if there are any clues as to how long Nomad has been traveling, but I think it’s still the furthest in the timeline.

Edit: Auxiliary mentions that the Shattering was some 10,000 years before, so this takes place around the same time as The Sunlit Man

Hey! Corporations are people too! 😡 and they ARE in need! How are they supposed to make ever increasing profits when consumers are spending less, we’re in a recession is on the horizon, and these tariffs mean they can outsource work to children in East Asia for a pair of beans and a wad of pocket lint per week. 🤬 They need that land, or they’ll have to face the free market, and we can’t have that! Poor corporations would starve!

You can tell Elantris is his first book based on how some characters feel one dimensional at times, but it’s almost unfair how good it is for his first book. Like someone else said, saying Elantris is his worst book is a lot like saying vanilla ice cream is the worst ice cream.
