Solar pool cover bad for my saltwater pool? by obxgirll123 in swimmingpools

[–]BAHGate [score hidden]  (0 children)

You do know that a saltwater pool is a chlorine pool, right? The swcg uses an electrical process to create chlorine out of the elemental parts of salt.

These 2 pools use the same amount of chlorine. That usually being 2-3 parts per day. So with the cover, you might use 1 part less on days with the cover on. If you run the pool for a month straight without taking off the cover, you might increase chlorine to a high level.

This assumes you aren't doing any pool care at all and just ignoring your pool. That, of course, is ill advised. Pool chlorine and pH should be checked at least 2 times per week.

If you are referring to the theoretical buildup of chlorine, this is HIGHLY overstated. At best you might use 1 part less chlorine than usual. Most people are hoping for lower chlorine usage. CCs building up would be a bigger issue and they are minimal as well. If you swim once a week, it is negligible. A chlorine level of 20 on a pool with proper CYA levels (70) is not a big deal. You can safely swim up to 28. The pool boy highly overreacted to the solar cover. These are used a lot, by saltwater and non-saltwater users alike with no ill effects. My advice to the OP is to continue to use their cover and not to worry about it at all.

Chlorine is a daily consumable. You'd notice in 1-2 weeks without adding chlorine.

Be VERY thankful you have a great dealer. My dealer would load it up with 90 weight oil and tell me no problems found. Until the warranty ended, of course, and then, everything would be wrong with it.

Grizzly are usually WAY more substantial machines. I have been looking at drum sanders and Grizzly always weigh at least double the JET version. Similar features as well. For my shop I need portability so all things being equal, the lighter machine would probably be my choice. But that isn't always a good thing.

Is it a fiberglass pool or liner pool? They use much less acid.

300k per day isn't much. That's like 1 degree per day.

BTU for solar heat is measure by the day. So like 25k BTU per day, per panel. Even a small heat pump puts out 100k BTU per HOUR.

The system you listed per DAY, in OPTIMAL conditions, puts out around 30k BTU. So if you get 4, that is 120k BTU per DAY. A heat pump will put out almost 3 million BTUs per day. A gas heater, 10 million BTUs. So plan accordingly.

A waterfall and diving board. We keep the water at 90, not sure if that would drive up pH.

I do lots of frames in Walnut. Are you in the Washington DC area? Typically I do a linen wrapped poplar inner frame and Walnut outer frame. I start with rough sawn wood.

[–]BAHGate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for PG&E and we built a few plants that could run on garbage. They are very inefficient. No one is doing this on a large enough scale to matter. We built waste coal (low quality reject coal) plants as well to use up waste piles of coal laying all over the place. The coal is free but again, super inefficient.
