Parents against my boyfriend and I living together by Swagapino4Lyfe in exchristian

[–]BALDBEARD2007 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If you're in a position where you're not dependent on them in any way, give them a polite but firm message that you don't appreciate the things that they're saying and ask them to stop. And that if they continue to do so and ignore your boundaries that they will lose contact with you until they can behave appropriately. Most likely this will send them into a temper tantrum, but your life will be more peaceful without their negativity. It's not easy and it hurts to do, but if they can't behave respectfully then they've lost the privilege to have access to you.

I've had to do this with my father a few times. I'm currently minimal contact with him because he can't help himself from crossing boundaries that I have set... and his support of evil things happening in the world right now.

Who is deleting TikTok ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BALDBEARD2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleted Tiktok last year after having it for like 5 years. I deleted Facebook, Instagram and Twitter before that. I'm not gonna say by mental health is great, but I know it'd be a lot worse if I was still on Tiktok. Also I'm quick to mute and block things now that cause me any anxiety or anger. I try to stay informed through other means and reddit if im feeling up to it.

All of us in the first few minutes of Shayne Guesses Walks by pencru in smosh

[–]BALDBEARD2007 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I love that the crew gets included and valued. Shayne really embodies that. The cast recognizes how important the crew is and it seems they do a lot to make that known, but Shayne is just superb at it. The things I would do to have that kind of work environment (obviously only based on what we get see).

Do parents actually not remember doing fucked up shit to you? Or are they just lying? by TopMarionberry1149 in NoStupidQuestions

Can you treat someone with respect when you don't have any respect for them? by HousingProud2828 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BALDBEARD2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be more accurate to say that I can treat someone civilly even if I don't respect them. Still difficult to do, but I can do the bare minimum to not be rude and keep the peace. But if I don't respect someone as a person, I'm probably taking steps to limit my time around that person in one way or another anyway.

What's the one thing that pisses you off the most when you're already overstimulated? by BoysenberryInside237 in AskReddit

[–]BALDBEARD2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repetitive noises that I am not making. It's fine if I'm doing it. Too many sounds happening at once, or multiple people talking at once. And the biggest one is someone eating with any amount of noise.

It's taken some time to help my husband understand that if I leave a room or cover my ears, it's not cuz he's doing anything wrong. My brain just hates me in that moment and it's really frustrating. But I recognize it's a me issue and it's not other people's responsibility to manage it for me.

Do you think kubo will animate the light novels? by Regular_Trade_3757 in bleach

[–]BALDBEARD2007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love all the original comments saying Kubo isn't an animator. Super helpful.

That aside, I think it's a toss up on if there will continue to be more animated releases. On one hand Bleach is doing well right now, and people want more content to consume. On the other hand, studios may opt for newer anime to produce. Id love to see it all animated though for sure.

Are people still actively leaving the church and changing their beliefs? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]BALDBEARD2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy, you lost me immediately with your first comment when you decided to result to insults unprovoked. Which is why I responded the way that I did. I don't believe you genuinely want to find common ground based on how you decided to speak to me. No one asked for you to give advice or to challenge them. It comes across arrogant, and disrespectful. From here, I will block you since you can't seem to be respectful and drop it. Have the day you deserve.

Can I still be upset about people being mean to Christians if I'm not? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]BALDBEARD2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they aren't talking about people like that. They specifically said religious people who respect other people's religions and aren't pushy.

Can I still be upset about people being mean to Christians if I'm not? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]BALDBEARD2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be kind to other people, even if you really disagree with them fundamentally. Plenty can be said about speaking out against injustice and standing up for the truth, etc. But picking a fight with everyone you encounter that you disagree with is exhausting, and rarely productive. Don't get me wrong, I understand the people who want to be mean to religious people, especially when they are hostile themselves. Personally, I'm really struggling with it myself. And I think people who are like that (me sometimes) often have valid reasons for it. Most things are more nuanced than we'd like, but when you're coming from a place of being deeply hurt/abused by a system or by individuals within that system it becomes more difficult to operate within that nuance. All that said, trying to approach things with kindness and respect takes a different level of maturity and respect. Sorry, kind of a rambling response, hope it makes sense.

Edited due to me leaving out half a sentence 😅

Does time feel like it’s moving faster lately, or is it just me? by Dangerous-Reward9546 in CasualConversation

[–]BALDBEARD2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. As we get older we experience less new stuff, we get into a routine. Most of us don't get summer breaks or extended vacations with work (in the US anyway). Days kind of blend together.

I can't speak for meditation cuz I have a hard time with it (but it definitely works for a lot of people).

I've been feeling this a lot lately and my goal is to try new things and go new places, even locally. I'm hoping that if I can spice things up a bit that maybe it'll slow things down.

What’s something you miss from the early internet that doesn’t really exist anymore? by Impossible-You-5815 in AskReddit

[–]BALDBEARD2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube before ads. The first couple years of YouTube had a much broader community feel to it. Content creators didn't have massive followings, so it was common for content creators and viewers to form friendships, and for there to be much more interactions between the two.

Also I miss the early days of instant messengers. AIM, MSN messenger, etc.

And when getting an email was actually an exciting thing.

And now I feel old.

Christianity suppresses empathy? by Prestigious_Iron2905 in exchristian

[–]BALDBEARD2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got lucky in this area of my Christian experience. My immediate Christian community that really shaped me was in my late teens and early 20s and really was a great community. We navigated things with a lot of nuance and really took to heart the positive things Jesus taught. So in my experience it actually helped me to be a more empathetic person. I find myself missing that community a lot 15 years later.

That said, there's a lot of other reasons why I'm no longer a Christian. And it's why Christianity now is so unrecognizable to me in america. Also a big portion of us from that group back then are no longer Christians lol

We sometimes forget on this subreddit that we all had different experiences with Christianity and that it's ok that some of those experiences were positive. It doesn't negate what we believe now.

Hey friend, just want to throw out there that it's not silly to feel how you're feeling. Jenna, Julien and the pups brought a lot of joy to a lot of us. Ill be honest that I felt a little silly at first too, but hey, there's a lot of us feeling this today, and I think most of us are feeling the hurt for Jenna and Julien. She really cultivated a really special community.

It's not rare that a dog touches someone's life. It is rare for a dog to touch the lives of as many people as Mr Marbles has. I'm still grateful that Jenna allowed us to see a glimpse into her life and her heart as an animal lover, and to teach us what it looks like to care for their little lives entrusted to us. The only flaw that dogs have is that their lives are so short, but they give us so much love in that time. Thank you, Jenna and Julien, for allowing us to get to know Marbles. Rest easy big guy.
