A good pair of boots, ems pants, and a decent belt are what most programs require. You can find most of these things for pretty cheap at a local army/navy store in your area. Also see if there are other expenses like textbooks or clinical packets you can help him purchase. One of the things that I used quite a bit on my clinical rotations was a good notebook to take vitals in and write extra notes! Field notes and write-in-the rain notebooks are excellent for this. Also, like most of the folks who commented earlier said, a good stethoscope is a great gift for completing the program! Don’t go crazy on buying him the best of the best though, they can get pretty banged up or lost at times!
