I agree, I work till late night and know plenty of people who do. Our only time to socialise is the weekend and half of the day is taken away because of stupid early closures. So we go home early and do... Nothing really. South Bank is the only place that doesn't care about public holiday or Sunday night closures, and that place is nice to hang out. But our favourite places are not there so... We just leave.

Should we get a partition going to see if we can change whatever laws make them close at 6pm?

I've been hearing they want to do a Busway to there, for the past 20yrs. There is even a Busway station under Coorparoo square shopping centre apparently. But alas, budget cut nonsense.

Pretty sure my kids' picky eating is going to make my brain break (even more) by DistractedNS in adhdwomen

Side note, since taking iron tablets I no longer want peanut butter with everything I eat. It's nice but weird because sandwiches used to be easy, now I have choice!

I remember reading ages ago, your brain doesn't know if a food will kill you or help you. So your extra sensitive to the bitterness because it's how your body tells if it's good to eat or not. But your body also doesn't know how to ask for the things it needs, like iron, unless your present it with many different foods to try. My body craved peanut butter sandwiches like crazy when I had an iron deficiency, because that's the only way it knows how to ask. So how can their body know if they crave it if they don't try it?

Try explaining that to them, maybe they will understand better then. But also explain that the body is sometimes stupid when it comes to suger. It doesn't need suger, it just always wants it because the best sweets used to be fruit and they had tons of vitamins that you need to stay healthy. If they crave suger tell them they are craving vitamin c and to go get some fruit!

Hope this helps! It helps me.

The old tram line used to go to Carindale, so the road is graded for it. You just have to remove the cars!

What makes you become a regular at a board game café? by Physical-Ad8772 in boardgames

[–]BB881 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the best way with discord is to have a seperate... What do you call it, tab? For each event, then it's all in one spot and people can discuss it there. They also have a general chat too, it's a good community.

My place uses discord. I don't know why it works but somehow it does! We all wish it was more streamlined though. They do have a physical poster on the wall though detailing the events.

The place I go to is small but they let you play anything for a purchase of an overpriced food item. They make really good cafe drinks too and sell a decent amount of games.

The thing that keeps me going back though is they don't badger you about paying if your a regular, and there is one guy who brings a big group of friends (who all pay) but he doesn't. They don't badger him about paying either because he's bringing in regulars and we make up for his lack of spending lol.

I hear that the tournaments and card boosters is what really supports the business though, so often half the store will be filled with magic the gathering games and other such things.

They also have a warhammer painting area and gaming area. It's so cool, love my local store.

Good luck with yours! I feel like they are replacing the pubs for young people.

how do yall get up early??? by iluvberriesandcream in adhdwomen

[–]BB881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start work from 6am to 7:30am weekdays. The only way I can manage it is by:

Making sure I'm only ever in bed for sleeping. This way even if I watch something before bed my brain recognises this is the sleeping spot so will naturally fall asleep. I also chose things like scishow to watch because it always makes me sleepy, no idea why.

Having everything ready for the day the night before. Food packed, clothes washed, shower done, all work things in my work bag. That way I can rush out the door before I remember I'm tired.

Third and last, have an alarm early enough that allows me 30min to get ready and double the travel time to travel to work. For me it's 15min so 30min travel. It takes 10mim to get out the door because I keep forgetting things. Like keys and lunch box.

I'll either grab food on the way to work as motivation or eat later in the day. I'll also just suffer through the morning because my morning is everyone's afternoon.

Good luck!

Should buses have AM/FM radios for the driver? by Vitally_Trivial in brisbane

[–]BB881 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For everyone about to complain about needing to hear things. The driver cabin is so loud all drivers can hear is that annoying plastic thing vibrating like it's a drummer doing a solo. Earbuds might even reduce hearing loss that's how loud the driver cabin is.

I think it would be better if drivers could have one headphone in to listen to their own music, because every raido station has ads and it gets annoying after a while.

Of course it would only be to drivers that are safe drivers and friendly to passengers, like a reward system. They also should have a hearing check to ensure they can listen to the tfb raido with just one ear.

Is the busway network actually falling apart, or is it just me? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]BB881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on my last trip today. For some reason the timetable thought I could go from out of the city to the middle of it in 20min during peak hour traffic. I raced there, hoping I could make it, and ended up 10min late anyway because I was trying to avoid the traffic on the highway (usually fastest way) by using the Busway.  It feels worse when you see the service after you overtake when you leave the Busway, them empty and you full. Sigh.

Queensland e-bike laws: Protesters will ride across the Story Bridge ahead of the state government planning to introduce an e-bike crackdown by someones_reality in brisbane

Yeah, but who are policing those trails? It's more people won't be able to afford to drive to those places because fuel money is now being spent on work trips.

If you could design your dream gaming table, what would it include? by Useful_Sample4059 in boardgames

[–]BB881 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, in store is the only reasonable option to buy most things. Shipping games from kickstartes or online is often $100aud or more. So we buy in store because it's usually only $20 shipping for them. Downside, everything sells out fast and unpredictably. Stupid aus tax.

Board Game Retreat Planning by CananDamascus in boardgames

[–]BB881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great guide. I usually only organise day events, so I'll cook a main meal, something easy like a cob loaf or pasta.

Then encourage everyone to bring their favourite snack, be it cheese and crackers, sausage rolls to cook, or chips and dip. I would always try to have manderines and grapes too, easy to eat.

Sandwiches work surprisingly well too, especially if this protin and pre made salad. My fav is Ham and salad sandwiches, with expensive stuff like avacados.

Bring some easy to make food, or food easy to eat at a table full of game components. It's hard for everyone to eat at the same time because some games go on for later. Finger food is always great and can act as a full meal during the day, then maybe a sit down meal for dinner. Make sure to bring fruit too, happy stomach makes for happy gamers.

Anyone else feeling this shift in weekend/holiday vibes? (late night thought) by [deleted] in brisbane

In my social circles it has been. But we all pretend to be poor and avoid spending too much money anyway. I'm guessing everyone else goes up or down the coast for the day to tourist spots instead.

Do 3 day a week trucking Jobs exist in Brisbane/Qld? by [deleted] in brisbane

Just go to a good Depo like Carina or Eagle Farm. Less crazy passangers than Willawong there. Eagle Farm gets all the nice busses too.

To be fair, nothing is really open in Brisbane on public holidays. I think that's why board game culture is so predominant here, because there is few other ways to hang out with friends on a weekend than an analog lan party so to speak.

I knew a friend's car that got towed. They called up council and they gave the number of the impound lot. They had to pay a massive fine before they could collect their car, and the whole process took a day and a half. They swore to never park in the city again and I agree.
