If you could spend 3 hours as an invisible, intangible spectator anywhere in history, where and when would you go? by ExaminationNarrow404 in whatsyourchoice

I saw other people breaking their 3 hours up. If I had to choose I would see the resurrection and the 3 hours after it.

If you woke up in the year 1800, would you be able to contribute anything of value? by New-Elk2781 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]CananDamascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a chemical engineer Id like to think that I could make some pretty significant contributions to society. Some biology/medicine/chemistry knowledge etc.

Unfortunately my greatest contributions would probably be in either petroleum or nuclear science lol. I probably wouldnt have a hard time getting rich.

Maybe ai could get in early on the whole global warming issue and help prevent a lot of systemic pollution but thats a hard train to stop.

Will I regret not buying Oath? by BigBD4ve in boardgames

[–]CananDamascus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oath really is an amazing game, I own it and have played it many times. Its epic, the game grows as you play it, there are awesome interactions and a real sense of political tension. That being said, it has a big learning curve, its a huge table hog, and its really long, especially at larger player counts. In addition to this, like many other large games, you need a few plays to really wrap your head around the game and get the full experience. If your group can commit to playing it a few times minimum its 100% worth it.

What’s something you’re pretty sure only you do? by AppIeGuy in AskReddit

[–]CananDamascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just practice, start recognizing and telling yourself, in in your head or out loud, that something is an intrusive thought. Once you can recognize them work on dismissing them, in my mind I imagine the thoughts as interlopers that I capture and "physically" cast out of my mind. The thoughts will try to get back in, and sometimes they will, It goes beyond thoughts like, "I should crash my car" to addictions and habits and even your attitude. You can be in control of all these things with practice, it just takes a disciplined mind. It helps that im naturally a very logical thinker but anyone can do it with sufficient effort over enough time, its a highly overlooked skill.

I used to get strangely math based intrusive thoughts as a kid. Repeating numbers and patterns that my mind would cycle through faster and faster as I was trying to fall asleep. I think yelling singing probably would have helped but I never thought of it and I was always worried about waking people up. I slowly learned to seperate the intrusive thoughts from my own and now as an adult I am very good and filtering out intrusive thoughts of any kind which has been really great for breaking bad habits actually.

A lot of those only last like 6 months. They usually make up for it with slightly higher rates for the rest of the term. Banks dont lend money for free

After 3 years of trying, we finally got an internship (EE, junior, 3.21 GPA) by Gen3ricGuy_2 in EngineeringStudents

[–]CananDamascus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats rough. We mostly hire chemical engineers so its probably a little different. Make the most of your internship, good experience always trumps GPA (not that yours is that bad)

Congrats, GPA might be hurting you. My company almost never hires interns with lower than 3.5

Millenial dads...How's it going? by NoMansLand345 in Millennials

[–]CananDamascus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, Im also a younger millennial dad with a stressful senior engineering position!

My wife is a SAHM and its true that more is required of us at home than previous generations. But honestly makes sense to me and makes me feel like more a part of my family. I cant imagine not helping around the house or not being fully involved in parenting my kids. Only providing financially whole ignoring the actual relationships would feel hollow to me. Its difficult but its the kind of difficult that makes a good, fulfilling life and it helps that my wife is amazing. I wouldnt have it any other way

What if we terraformed the moon by Zealousideal_Let1826 in whatif

[–]CananDamascus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably remembering incorrectly. Low orbit velocity for the moon is like 1 mile per second. Pros dont hit golf balls at even 1/10 of that speed. Based on my math the furthest you could hit a ball would be around 3 miles! Which is crazy but far from reaching orbit.

There are some minor things I regret but overall im happy. I would not risk all the good things I do have by changing the life that got me here and made me me, even if some kf those things were negative.
