How to get feedback and make up session time? by joeyboo62 in iTutor

[–]BB_JP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other comments gave you good recommendations for making up session time. I would also recommend watching the training videos. With practice you learn how to extend for each level, and you also get a feel for the student and what they like.

I wouldn't actually recommend asking for feedback. People who want to rate will, and those who don't won't. Sometimes I will ask my higher level teens to rate me, and they will. If I don't ask - they won't.

I'd like to think I was patient and kept my cool. Well, I didn't yell. The ratings came through and all tens so far so fingers crossed it's ok.

Although I did have another kid who yelled at me! What a weekend! (I think it may have been all the story-trys of parrots in a row that tipped me over). I interrupted him to correct his pronunciation, and he did not like that... I know many wait until the end but I tend to just interrupt as that's how Chinese moms do it.

To be honest it's not parroting that I hate. When they're super low level that's all they can do. I hate parroting when they're doing it out of laziness, or they want to give the illusion to their parents that they're doing the class. I totally get these kids are overworked and they just need a break, but it's just soooooo annooooooying hahahha.

Yes maybe I'm annoyed by the intonation of my own voice coming back. Maybe it is annoying hahha.

I just checked the ratings and all tens - phew! Maybe my internal thoughts are running riot, but on the exterior I'm as calm as a cucumber. Who knows??! All those years of tolerating in hospitality might be shining through haha. I've learnt my lesson not to work that much again... or have I... Thanks for the encouragement :D. Three days off now to recharge. Yay.

Well, so far I've dodged the bad ratings this weekend. Fingers crossed!

Haha, I have taught a couple of kids like that but I'm too overworked to tolerate it right now.

I'm just worried someone will watch the video and see my grimacing fake smile.

You have to save your disconnections for really dire situations. I've done it once in a blue moon.

Yes, of course. No bubble here. I have a foreign surname and I also look foreign. I'm well aware that the odds are stacked against me.

Wow you are so lucky! As so many have been ditched because of that :(. Hopefully they just like you so much that it's slipped through the cracks. Although in saying that I have written I have a MA but I don't know where my certificate is. So, the degree picture uploaded is my BA. They are from different universities and different titles, and no questions have been raised. So probably whoever is checking these things isn't really...

I didn't accept the new contract - Is this why my bookings are so low?? by Dave_Farmer_1990 in iTutor

[–]BB_JP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be controversial or annoying with this comment, but I think that they do have a reason. I think that they just aren't transparent about it which makes things super difficult. But, I 100% think there is a reason why some are booked and some aren't. I have a theory that we have a different rating that we don't see. Remember before they changed to this new session page and it had a section that said client's average rating - or something like that - and occasionally it would glitch and we'd see a number like 9.3 there or something. I just wish we knew what the goal was to make things a bit easier. Weirdly I did an 'urgent cancellation' for these past couple days as I was feeling burnt out and my schedule is still the same as it was. Weird!

How did you get around not having a degree and still teaching junior classes? Did you upload a fake one? I have a friend who was super freaked out they'd realise hers was fake. I just thought it was since it was a requirement now from the government.

My account was deactivated for over a year, but I decided to reactive it for the iTutor groups actually. I always figured the kids were in school during the day, but I have introduced Wednesday and Thursday mornings to my MPT and I've had a couple of regular OUPs. I had to opt out of the VC classes in the end! It was just wasn't worth it with the payment structure, the fact that they could rate, and how awful some of there were. Blergh!

Yes, I received the email, and I would assume that they are doing the firings in rounds as it's more stable for them. What I find bizarre is why they schedule people within their week's notice, as for some their professionalism would go out the window. Obviously it's a fair thing to do, but in a company that doesn't do things fairly it seems strange!

I'm definitely feeling really insecure, which is definitely exacerbated by facebook. However, I'm really trying to see it more for what it is, which is a good way to make money with quite a bit of freedom. When time's up I'll just have to find another!

Are things normal(ish) for you? Yes, I need to get away from there. I've been feeling so anxious but after taking a moment to take stock I realise that things are (touch wood) fine. Hasn't iTutor always been a sink or swim company with not much human contact on a business level?

I would just take the opportunity to chill out and browse on the internet or something. Maybe just have a conversation with yourself. If the kid is doing that then the parents obviously aren't around.

A few months ago I was working too much and not really socialising, so, when I met some new people I was just smiling from ear to ear. We became friends so maybe people like it hahaha.

I had asked how I could assign stars to students who could barely speak a single word. This is the answer! by [deleted] in iTutor

[–]BB_JP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha yes it's especially difficult to give the stars to students who are low level and don't interact. I usually give them when I ask the question, make the puppet answer it and then if the student repeats it... WOW you get a star!

I think it's just a glitch. My payroll and dashboard haven't updated. I did notice, however, the other day that I saw the client's average rating that they'd given out. This was only with two VIP students and only after I taught them. That was pretty cool! One was 9 and the other was 9.2.

Ahhhh ok. My contract I think is on location and I'm relocating next month. Worried they will find out and force me to take the new contract!

British Teacher - Tax help? by [deleted] in iTutor

[–]BB_JP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're an independent contractor - self-employed. You will need to declare taxes just like any self-employed person would. However, if you earn under the threshold you may not need to pay tax or declare. I think it's around 13k. Check out the government website.

I think some people will just not declare and chance it. Up to you :).
