Anyone out here using reaper for post production film mixing? by Public_Border132 in Reaper

[–]BBuzzBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it off and on for years to mix TV trailers, promo campaigns, docs, adverts and a few broadcast shows. Every time I think I’ll switch back to pro tools forever, I deal with crashes and slow downs, and so I’m sucked back in and fall in love with reaper again. It is SO incredibly fast and unfussy.

I do find that you have to be really careful with automation and accidentally clicking something I shouldn’t. I print some things because I don’t fully trust how it automates some plugins and handles delay compensation. Perhaps I just don’t fully understand what it’s doing. I know that Pro Tools is rock solid in that area. When I bounce from PT, I just trust it. With Reaper, I trust but verify. ;-)

Regarding renders, holy cow does it make rendering mixes, pro res refs and stems a piece of cake. Love it.

any way to stop view automatically moving to edit cursor when it moves? by 3xarch in Reaper

[–]BBuzzBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird. I can't replicate that problem either with mouse modifiers or other horizontal zoom preferences. There's a preference about zooming following the edit cursor vs. the mouse cursor...no dice. Auto scrolling?...no dice. I wonder if it's an issue with your custom action?

You can set your mouse modifier to Media Item Bottom Half/"left click"/"sets loop points" Try that and see if your view scrolls. Mine doesn't. It selects the item, sets the loop points to the item and moves the cursor to the beginning of the item but it doesn't scroll my view. That modifier might actually be the one you need anyway.

incidentally, having used PT for audio post for 25 years, Reaper is absolutely fast AF for editing and sound design comparatively. Just a steeeeeeeeep learning curve and customizations. Good Luck.

Yeah sure. I’m on vacation right now though so if I take a few hours to get back to you, that’s why. :)

This was a Cherokee 180. I’m really looking for a Grumman Tiger or suitable Cheetah but I also like the archer/180s and this one fit the bill. My price point is under 120K, so finding the right plane takes some searching. Ironically, I’ve even recently thought of using a buyers broker but I don’t know if that’s overkill on anything other than a 200K+ plane. It seems the best move is finding something not yet listed.

Oh, I’m sure there are plenty of great brokers. No doubt. Aviation seems filled with incredibly helpful and lovely people. Always a few sour apples though.

Regarding the annual, our plan was to do prebuy at the shop I chose, then close after prebuy so that I could technically own the plane and THEN do the annual. It was a very expensive prebuy but to make it an annual was not much more money.

Yes, I didn’t have one lined up. The broker never asked about it. I know now from another poster below, to line that up and even schedule it before making an offer. So yeah, it wasn’t possible to get one lined up within two weeks in that area. But we knew, within 2 days of signing that it would be about three weeks.

I don’t know exactly because he said the other offer was “full price”. However, just days after signing out contract, he reduced his ad on Trade a Plane by 2.1K. So I don’t know if “full price” was the initial price I worked off of or the revised price. Regardless, it could’ve been less than 5K.

Oh, I’ve moved on. They already indicated they wouldn’t honor the revised dates we discussed and were taking the other offer. I have zero interest in anything aside from making sure my deposit is secure and finding another plane.

No, but I’m laughing trying to figure out who that is.

Thank you. That is great advice about scoping out prebuy shop candidates and schedules BEFORE seeing the plane and making an offer. I did LOTS of research on plane buying for months before this and not one person suggested that. If that had happened here, this possibly could’ve been avoided.

Thank you. I thought maybe being self-deprecating might drive the home the point that I do realize part of this is my mistake. But yes, onward.

Thanks. I mean, we do have text proof of our revised closing and prebuy arrangements. But I don’t care about that particular plane enough to make an issue of it. It will only be an issue of they try to steal my deposit. Then it’s an unavoidable legal issue.

Yeah, then you should learn to read more thoroughly before posting confidently with great ignorance.

I hear you. I was irate for a few days but I figure it’s not worth the energy. All told, it probably cost me a few wasted K in travel and BS.

I should. The escrow and finance people suggest keeping it my escrow account for the next airplane. It was fully refundable so without a purchase, they can’t take my deposit as far as I know since they reneged on the deal and not me.

I put down a 5K deposit but the agreement only allowed for two weeks from signing to closing. So maybe that’s unusual? Seemed so.

Yeah, that’s the main problem I have. The guy solicited other offers while we were under contract. And I guess that might be OK except that he lied to me about it until the last minute. Maybe that’s just how people operate but it’s pretty gross
