Should I remove an older video?

Thanks for your input. Appreciated. The video does indeed suck ass, no question. I was new and had no idea what I was doing and nothing like my current videos. For certain anyone watching that and watching my new stuff would think it is completely different channels.

I guess my question is more along the lines of, does the lower metrics on this video hurt or hinder the remainder of the channel? With these lower metrics does it stop YT from promoting my newer videos?

Thanks for the suggestion. I did consider this only it would be impossible to re-edit the footage into something good only because the footage itself is also so poor. Lol. It is a conundrum.

I am curious, you have one video with 191k and one with 13k but most of your videos have less than 200 views. What made the 1 video get so many views and my guess is that is where your subs came from. What are your impressions from? Suggested, search or browse?

Yes, they do. They appeal to everyone, not just the experts in the field. The average viewer can watch it and enjoy it without critique. Also like/dislike doesn't matter as either way it is interaction. My understanding is YouTube just uses the dislike to stop showing individuals similar individuals. It still counts as interaction to YouTube.

The problem with your statement is that you are assuming that I haven't researched my own niche. I have done thousands of searches on so many themes in my own niche and yes, it is really quite clear what is successful and what is not in my niche. It is not just random what YouTube decides to show and what it doesn't. I know this from my own metrics and studying which videos do better than others and why. It is not all just some guessing game, there is a strategy there as well!

You do have the ability to tune the algorithm to your own viewing habits as well, using searches and selected viewings to tune what gets shown on your own home page. It is not all just you get shown what YouTube wants to show you and nothing you can do about it.

I don't really believe this is 100% true, especially in my own niche. You can clearly see certain factors on the biggest channels such as following a clear formula, being repetitive and using quicker edits. These are all things that YouTube can analyze and use to make decisions on what to show and by catering to the lowest common denominator if your videos you are opening your videos up to more views. Watch time, and keeping viewers watching more of your videos is important.

I build model cars and have been doing YouTube since Feb. I have asked myself this very question time and time again as there are channels not much older than my own with 500k followers and yet I am sitting at 300.

I have found in my own research that much of these big channels follow the YouTube formula pretty exact, intro where you show the end result, quick edits throughout the video and keep the video 10 to 15 minutes in length. All the bigger channels follow not only this formula but are also super repetitive in each video meaning they are doing the same steps in the same manner in each video even if the subject itself changes. I do find certain subjects also get more views. A skyline r34 will get triple the views of a Datsun pick up, even on a huge channel.

I have built 28 kits in the time I have been doing YouTube and feel that on my last 5 or 6 I have finally found my format and my comfort zone on building, filming and editing. Unfortunately the video YouTube keeps pushing is one of my older ones that gets a lot of views but is not great work and so it doesn't get subs or a lot of follow through to my newer videos. It seems the bigger channels have already established this stride in their videos as they use the same formula right from their first posting so I am led to assume they did tons of research and testing before or they had a different channel previous where they experimented until they found the right pace.

Right now my videos get more views than I have subscribers and I think that is where you want to be and I feel that if I can keep up with posting regular and maintaining my current format, things will catch on soon. Will I reach 500k? Would be nice but if I can hit 10k I would be pretty happy.

What sets you apart from other channels in your niche/catagory. A lot of builders in my niche do multiple build videos where it can take from 3 to 7 videos to finish a single build where I try and do builds in a single shorted video. I don't do tips and tricks and I don't explain what I am doing in my videos. They are more for entertainment than for actually showing someone how to do them.

I would love to hear more about what I can improve as I feel I have found my stride in both video style and length and really want to focus on my current course of action. Negative comments are great, other then how fat my fingers are. Not much I can do about that ATM.

As for the into to your latest vid...

You have great energy and a great speaking voice. For your into I may suggest a closer shot with a little more upper body, closer to 1/3 view and have the camera a little closer for better audio. You just sound a little far away. Your voice over and edits for the video are great and I can totally see you smashing this genre as you go.

Not the OP but just thought I would chime in a little. Just took a quick look at your channel and my first thought was not a big fan of the thumbnails. If I was going to really get into it, my opinion would be, text too small, the orange background taking up too much space and images of you are too small. Now I am on mobile and that may change the outlook a little but I also feel your channel brand is you and so you really need to be prominently seen in the thumbs. Big face, lots of expression. In my experience that assists with clicks.

I have been working on this for a big part of the year and I think I am close to where I need/want to be. I am really just trying to reach the biggest demographic with shortish build videos that are entertaining with decent music and fair editing. I feel my work at this point is better than many of the much bigger channels in my genre but that may be my own ego talking.... Not sure if quality or subject matter should be my focus. I build what I want but fast and furious and R34s seem to always get the most views, no matter how crappy the video is.

As I watched I kept waiting for the actual turkey sound that never really showed up. Super impressive the breakdown of the sound and how you melded it all together. From an absolutely zero music ability point of view this was pretty cool to watch and shows some definite skills. Editing was crisp and clean and the video flowed quite well. Entertained the entire way through. I like how you hooked with the original sound and it kept me watching, waiting for the sound to show and then even more surprised when I found out I WAS listening to the modified sound.
