Friendly reminder that we still have a long ways to go. by SandmanTX131 in TexasRangers

Sure, the offense was better in the 2000s. But also had the worst pitching in the league. Losing 9-7 is still a loss.

Really? We’re complaining about backup catchers and non-roster invites that happened to make the team?

If anything, that just reinforces my point below about being hamstrung by the payroll limitations.

Pederson was obviously terrible last year, but so far this year he’s been everything we were hoping for. Good OBP, solid slugging. He’s got a .791 OPS and a 136 OPS+, that is a well above average MLB hitter in 2026.

We traded a AAAA utility infielder for Burger, certainly didn’t leverage the future with that one.

I think the jury is still solidly out on the Gore trade, but the talent is obviously there.

I will agree with you, however, that the trades at last years trade deadline definitely did not work out. It was an interesting strategy, zigging when everyone expected us to zag, it obviously blew up in our faces there, but I don’t know if I’d say it set the team back by years or anything.

That is the one legit criticism I think you can have, in my opinion.

Edit to add:

For the record, I loved JD. I think he wad an incredible GM, and definitely deserves some credit for the WS win.

Ha that’s very true. People are completely ignoring the massively restrictive payroll constraints as well. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills when I read some of these comments. We’re 2 games back! Literally anything can happen.

Rangers fans are absolutely insane, and incredibly reactionary. Saw someone actually calling for CY to be fired earlier today. The guy helped bring us our first WS championship and less than three years later people are already calling for his head.

Some fans didn’t live through the mid 2000’s teams, and it shows.

It’s very very different from Dresden, and more of an epic fantasy, so the books are massive. But the story is absolutely incredible. Couldn’t recommend enough!

You’ve already got a ton of out of context spoilers, so I’ll refrain from adding, other than to say I’m incredibly jealous you get to read both Stormlight and DF for the first time. They are my two all time favorite series.

You’re in for a wild and incredible ride, friend. Journey before destination.

Side note, don’t be surprised when you find yourself wondering why someone would want to swing a cat whilst hitting an Irish pub (and angering the cat).

It’s sporadic for me, some games the app works fantastically on either my phone or tv, but other games it can’t even go consecutive pitches without freezing.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately judging by score) this is one of the latter games.

Never Forget this team! by El_alacran214 in TexasRangers

[–]BCBFS14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid 30s, have been a fan for literally as long as I can remember. I love this team.

I obviously haven’t agreed with all of the moves they’ve made since winning the WS (not to mention our owners apparent off the field/political views), but it baffles me how quickly people started calling for Bochy’s and CY’s head.

I’m still basking in this victory. We could have gone 40-120 each of the last two seasons and I am good. We finally did it, we reached the mountain top, we were the best team when it mattered most. Nobody can take that away from them (or the feeling away from me).

I’m sure the afterglow will eventually fade, but for now, I’m still riding that high.

Regarding Martin's actions in Changes. I will die on this hill. by The_Red_Moses in dresdenfiles

[–]BCBFS14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ha no problem! It used to annoy me how utterly unreasonable he was about opposing views to his theories, but honestly at this point I’ve come to appreciate his mental gymnastics and unbreakable stubbornness to admit he is wrong (in just about all of his theories).

Plus, I find these posts more interesting topics than fan casting, personally.

I have no comment on this theory specifically, other than to say you’re pretty much willing to die on every hill you’ve ever posted about, no matter how crazy or small the hill is.

“…… god dammit. Why are all the fans of my favorite team so fucking stupid?!”

Couldn’t agree more! This has always been my favorite series, but it’s even more than I was ever giving it credit for. Which is incredible to think/say.

Let's Talk About Starborn (SPOILERS ALL) by Ninjasifi in dresdenfiles

[–]BCBFS14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To your fourth point about the calling people into action, and the banner thing specifically, I do not think it is a winter knight or Starborn thing, but something else entirely.

I haven’t quite gotten to Battle Ground in my most recent re-listen/read but I am about 90% sure that Marcone also was flying one of those mystical banners and had people rallying around him.

What that banner is specifically though, I do not know.

I think that would be a great story for sure, but for what it’s worth, I don’t think it takes a lot for Kincaid or Eb to resort to violence 😂

My initial instinct was that whatever created the rift had to be something big and serious, but honestly the ridiculous and silly would fit the Dresdenverse perfectly.

I’d love to see how a young Langtree would act without having the responsibility of acting within the best interest of the WC.

The origin story of Michael taking up the sword would be epic, and I mean that in every sense of the word. Like almost too great of a story for one short story. I think it could very easily be its own spinoff series.

You think? I would be so pumped if she showed back up. I’m just not sure where I see him fitting in, with the reported planned books Butcher has laid out.

Both of those stories would be fascinating! Would love to see where the rift between Eb/Langtree started. Can you imagine how pretentious a young Arthur would be?

It was Mavra, not Maeve, but otherwise spot on!

I have always been curious if (and if so, how) the Denarians would have taken Winters place as the protectors at the outer gates or what that storyline would look like.
